National Catholic Schools Week kicks off this weekend!

Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States and is an important opportunity to celebrate ‘who we are’ and ‘what we do’. It starts Sunday, January 27th and runs through February 2nd. The theme this year is “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” Through this event, we focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our community and our nation. Good Shepherd was honored to host this year’s District 39 Middle School Governor's Cup tournament and our team won the Hume Sportsmanship Award. Two of our students, Rhys Staples and Patrick Rupinen, earned medals in the written assessments and will advance to the regional competition. Rhys placed 5th in Language Arts and Patrick placed third in Social Studies. Did you know we have new and exciting changes for the upcoming Run for the Gold? It is now a 5K Fun Run/Walk and will be held Saturday morning, March 16th at 9 am. The Run for the Gold benefits the Visual and Performing Arts Program of Good Shepherd Catholic School. Did you know Saturday, February 23rd is Good Shepherd Catholic School’s Green and Gold Gala? Split-the-Pot Cash Raffle Kicks Off February 1st. This is one of the biggest fundraisers the school does to help continue Catholic education in Frankfort.

Did you know we just got a check for $513 for Box Tops for Education? Keep clipping and sending in Box Tops to benefit our school – it helps! Wow! – YOU can make a difference. Thanks to All who participate in the Kroger Community Rewards program to benefit Good Shepherd Catholic School! In the last quarter of 2018 we earned almost $3000 and had over 300 households participating with our school as their beneficiary. Wow! – YOU can make a difference. For more info on this program and to enroll: Kroger.com/communityrewards or contact Miss Sims in the school office.

MAGNIFICAT BREAKFAST – MIRACULOUS HEALING! Come hear the amazing testimony of Father Stephen J. Mondiek from the Diocese of Cincinnati at a Magnificat Breakfast to be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Christ the King (Hehman Hall), 299 Colony Blvd., Lexington, KY. An engineer before answering his call to the priesthood, Father Mondiek was introduced to a saint following an encounter. He asked this saint for healing of a physical ailment, and to his amazement, received healing of his medical issues. Please join us to find out more about his faith journey and this saint! Invite a friend to come and share this experience with you. Mass at 8 AM. To register, send a $12.00 check by February 16, 2019 (payable to Magnificat) to Debbie Lane, 3365 Commodore, #422, Lexington, KY 40502. Do not be sad, and do not weep…Nehemiah 8:9

Joyfully sharing food with those we love has long been part of our worship. Rejoicing with our loved ones is an important and wonderful way to express praise and gratitude, but it is not the end of our task. We must “allot

portions to those who have nothing prepared,” even if we think they have been irresponsible, wasteful, or lazy. Simple sharing is part of following the Lord.
