Good Reading Magazine is an Australian publication dedicated to promoting everything about books through new book reviews, author interviews and much more. The online version is an exact digital copy of the print magazine with the benefits of being able to search for information about genres, authors and books across the whole of the Good Reading archive. The City of Stirling Libraries subscription provides you with free access to this great magazine online. This session will give you some tips for how to use this new online resource. Getting Started To locate the Goodreading link on the City of Stirling Library website go to the left hand side of the screen select Websites and Databases and then Online Databases. Click on the GRO link and this will take you to the log on page for GRO. NB: To access this you will need to enter your Stirling library member card number. GRO looks and feels like a high quality print magazine. Once you have learnt a few basics you will find it easy to use. The first screen that you will see when you log on to Good Reading Online (GRO), is always the current edition, which is updated monthly.

About Good Reading Online (GRO). Good Reading Magazine is an Australian publication dedicated to promoting everything about books through new book reviews, author interviews and much more. Browsing and Navigating an Issue of Good Reading The tool bar at the bottom of the screen allows you to browse and access a range of other functions.

• To browse by turning the page use the left or right hand arrow tabs either side of the magazine content or the arrows on the toolbar.

• To browse through the ‘index’ click this button on the toolbar which will take

you to a table of contents for the issue you have open.

You then can select a page or article either by choosing from the index listing on the left hand side, or by scrolling the toolbar across and selecting one of the double-page magazine spread thumbnail images.

• You can also use the magazine contents page to click through to any pages of interest to you (look for the hyperlink under each page number)

To read a page you need to zoom in on it.

• Click on the page with the LH mouse button to zoom into it and make it easier to read.

• Once you have zoomed

in you will see an arrow compass icon –hold down your left mouse button to move around the page.

• Click on the page again

with your LH mouse button to zoom back out again.

Many of the pages will have underlined hyperlinks to additional information about the content you are reading on the Goodreading website. Clicking on any of these hyperlinks will open the website on a new page. When you close the website page you should find yourself back in the Good reading magazine database.

Searching the Good Reading Archive When you click on the ‘archive’ button on the toolbar you will be taken to all of the back issues of the Goodreading magazine. You browse these in the same way you view the current issue.

You can also search the current issue or the whole archive for a specific author or genre or any other key term.

The first search results will apply to the current issue but you will be asked if you would like to “apply this search across the archive”. This will find all mentions of your search term throughout all the Goodreading back issues. Once you have clicked a link through to a search result, click the search magnifying glass icon again to return to your search results. Printing or Emailing an Article If viewing from home you have the option of printing or emailing any articles of interest to you. To do so just follow the prompts from the print & email icons on the tool bar.

Accessing the Goodreading Website At the top of the page you will find a row of buttons that will take you a wealth of additional information at www.goodreadingmagazine.com.au. Each of these buttons will take you to a different area of the Good Reading website. To log on to the subscriber area of the Good Reading, click on the ‘GR HOME’ button.

By clicking on the ‘GR HOME’ this will take you to the Good Reading website where you will be logged in as a website subscriber giving you access to additional information, such as reading group notes, teacher’s notes, book synopses, recommended reading for children, competitions and much more. To log out of Good Reading Online, go to the online magazine and click on the ‘LOGOUT’ button in the top right hand corner or just close the window.
