gWelcome to this year’s Reunion Special

In July we celebrated the Class of 2001 at their 10 Year Reunion. The reunion is a highlight each year on the King’s calendar and is one of the many ways we continue to keep connected with past students and staff. It’s amazing what we become when we ‘grow up!’

The vision of this online magazine is to be a link to King’s for all who have spent time here no matter how long it’s been. So as you rediscover friends and memories, I hope you feel part of the family and at home again.

We are now on the look out for the Graduating Class of 2002.

To the class of 2001, we salute you.

EditorialAs we celebrate the Class of 2001, we welcome the Class of 2011 to the King’s Past Student Association.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of walking down ‘the tunnel’ on the last day of school. I’m sure it’s a day that few of us will ever forget. The world is at your feet and the possibilities are endless.

It’s quite likely that the world doesn’t look exactly how you thought it would but rest assured, you’re changing it every day!

So whether you’re refelcting on 10 years or 10 weeks out of school and everywhere in between, this magazine celebrates you.

Merry Christmas!

From the PrincipalRees Davis The Class of 2001 had their 10 Year Reunion on July 30. This reunion group was the largest in our short histroy of 10 year reunions. Past students and teachers travelled from far and wide to reminisce about school years and to catch up with friends and colleagues. It is always a thrill to meet up with our past students and to see how well they are doing.

To the Class of 2001, God bless you, and we pray for every success in your chosen path.

Merry Christmas!

Nicole Ravell

Nicole Ravell (2001)

In the final year of schooling where it’s all about OP scores, university and job offers, Nicole couldn’t quite make up her mind what she wanted to do or who she wanted to be. 10 years later and she is about to set off for a scuba diving adventure as an instructor in Palau.

Nicole has spent the last three years doing all the necessary courses as well as traveling inside and outside Australia for experience. She has immersed herself in the diving world to achieve her goal of becoming a PADI Professional.

It is her dream job come true.

But before she left for the islands, Nicole came along to the Class of 2001’s 10 Year Reunion. Her favourite part was seeing how so many people have and have not changed. “It was also hilarious to call all the teachers Miss ... Mrs ... & Mr ... as I still had no idea what their first names were!” she said.

Nicole attended King’s from grade four to twelve. “My mum’s intention for sending my brothers and I to a private school was for the Christian education and I can state unequivocally, that her goal was met by King’s.”

Her fondest memory of school is at the 2000 Rock Eisteddfod Finals. “Having King’s Christian College announced as coming in 3rd place for Queensland was a pretty awesome and proud moment indeed.”

There is no doubt that the next chapter in Nicole’s journey will feature much more of these moments.

Samuel Toms (2001)

Over the past 10 years Sam has devoted his time to actively pursuing Christ and his cause. This has taken him to different parts of the Earth as a missionary and even a volunteer in the Israeli Defence Force. He has since returned to the Gold Coast where he is heavily involved in his local church.

He believed as a student, and still does today, that character outweighs career. “I am passionate about young men discovering God and the truth that our character, who we are, is what we should really focus on devel-oping in life.” he explained.

Sam completed his senior schooling at King’s. He reflects on the last day of school as a significant moment in his life. “ It is a fond memory, not because of leaving, but because it was a day that I actually realised the school had left a big impression on who I was. The relationships with staff and students had helped me define my identity in this world and who I am in Christ.” he said.

Mark Hamblin (2001)

Growing up in a family of adventurers, Mark developed a love for fishing, bush walking and exploring. It was this love that inspired him to paint and does so ‘til this day. “When I’m painting I remember the things I saw and did on my camping trips and use them as my inspiration.” He said.

Mark paints with water color and oils and has enjoyed success selling his paintings at exhibitions and online. “A few years ago my parents encour-aged me to put my works in an exhibition and I sold quite a few there so it has been very rewarding.” He said.

Although Mark works as a surveyor his goal is to continue with his art-work. “I have recently been approached to be the illustrator of a children’s book.” He said.

Mark attended King’s from year 4-12 and has forged friendships that he still maintains today and is grateful for the time spent at the College. “My fondest memories include the survival camp with Mr. Siebel and just be-ing in the College environment.” He said.Mark has become a regular exhibitor at our annual Easter Arts Festival and we look forward to his work being on show again in April, 2012.

Mr. Rees Davis

The College recently celebated 20 years of service by Mr. Rees Davis. Mr. Davis continues to lead the College with innovation, integrity and purpose. We are thankful for the many years and lives he has sown into and look forward to the future.

To mark this significant occasion, a tree was planted by Mr. Davis with the help of students at a ceremony by the College lake.

Sports Complex

The initial ground work has begun on the King’s Sports Complex. The facility will feature 2 multipurpose indoor courts, a gym/ weights room, 4 classrooms, change rooms and a staff room. It is due to be completed by September 2012.

King’s Trade Training Centre

Preparations are well underway for the commencement of King’s Trade Training Centre. The Centre, opening in January 2012, offers courses in automotive, hairdressing, baking and hospitality. Students are able to complete senior Maths and English as well as receiving a Cert IV for their respective field.

Pimpama Campus

King’s has been working with a developer to gain approval to build a school on a property in Pimpama. Government approvals are almost complete and we hope that we will be able to purchase property next year.
