US History Notebook Expectations

This year, you will be responsible for keeping a notebook in US History class. We will use this notebook EVERY day as a place to take notes, answer questions, and gather information. We will continually refer to our notebooks for information and to help us see the story of America through the progression of ideas. These notebooks will be your number one resource when studying for tests, writing papers, and reviewing for STAAR.

We will set up the notebooks in class, and every notebook will be set up in the same way. This consistency is important in creating a collaborative learning environment.

The notebooks will be kept in my classroom. If you would like to take it home, to another class, to lunch, etc…you may check it out. Come see me at the end of class to sign it out. When you bring the notebook back, you must check it in with me. Because these notebooks are vital to your comprehension of 8th grade US History, if your notebook is lost, it is your responsibility to replace it and to recreate the information within the notebook.

Each class will have a designated shelf to store their notebooks. As you enter each day, make sure you grab it. You will need it every day and having it ready before we begin class will ensure that we have the maximum amount of time for learning. As you leave class, place your notebook on the shelf.

Your notebooks will periodically be collected and graded. This is NOT a completion grade. This is a content grade. Your information must be accurate and complete. Incomplete or inadequate content will be corrected as homework or during tutorials.

Class color• Each class has a color. This

makes it easy to identify your class notebooks.

• As you set up your notebook, I will distribute your color tape.

• Place it on the binder towards the top.

• I will also place a post it note on your desk. LEAVE IT THERE! If you play with it, it will lose its stickiness!
