INTRODUCTION

When I joined the Indian Army as a Lieutenant in the year 1978, little did I know that this

training would prove crucial later, in handling all the intricacies of management. As part

of the Army Service Corps (ASC-MT) it was mandatory to acquaint ourselves with all

aspects of supply chain management which today in my opinion forms the backbone of

the container service industry. In the year 1999, after having worked through the minutest

details of container repairing and fabrication starting from cutting marine ply to welding

and then to post-survey we bagged the first repair contract at ICD, Ludhiana. Since we

were the first repairers in ICD, Ludhiana we had a standard to set. We must have fared

well because it’s been almost a decade and we are still going strong. In the year 2001,

lessons learnt in the Army and experience gained at Ludhiana gave rise to Golden Horn

Containers Service Pvt. Ltd. Our inability to compromise on quality and our motto of

service before self has secured us the position of the second best repairer in the country

and a place in the international order and we are confident that it shall continue to guide

us in the years to come and shall enable us to scale greater heights.

OUR FIRST VENTURE

In the year 2001, Container Warehousing Corporation (CWC), J.N.P.T. floated a tender

for container repairers. It was a great opportunity and morale booster for us to work with

such an esteemed organisation right in the beginning of our inception. Having started our

work in a small repair shed inside the CWC complex with a major shipping line like PIL

we gradually with steadfast dedication opened our own yard in Jasai near J.N.P.T.

Initially the small half acre plot gradually blossomed into an 8 acre storage hub

simultaneously catering to the needs of MAERSK, MSC, CMA-CGM, SEAWORLD,

and many more esteemed shipping conglomerates across the globe with an average

volume of about 2000 TEU’s at any given time. Our expertise in the field coupled with

our round the clock reporting to the shipping lines in their respective formats helped us in

developing our talent to the hilt and face any challenge with sound knowledge and

complete professionalism. Currently we have entered into a joint venture with Seaworld

Group in Mumbai for fabrication of Garment on Hangers (GOH), including portable and

permanent GOH structures for reputed shipping lines like APL, MAERSK, HAPAG-

LLOYD as well IICL standard repairs.

SECOND VENTURE

The constant support of our most cherished and esteemed clients helped us to expand our

horizons resulting in full-fledged storage yards in Ahmedabad, Gandhidham (Kandla),

Mundra and Pipavav. It is worth mentioning that having first repaired containers inside

the Kandla Port we found it an easy and informative transition when we opened the first

Dry Van Depot in Kandla for container storage and service.

hangers in garment containers, manufacturing of bunkhouse, maintenance of railway

comprehensive knowledge of yard planning, examining health of containers and repairs,

At every location we have a secured property to service almost any amount of equipment

the clock for equipment interchanges, trailer monitoring, gate checks, and equipment

locating. Our facility is conveniently located only a few kms from main ports and ICD’s,

and has easy access to several major thoroughfares.




IMPLICATIONS

We visualize and analyze financial implications for a shipping company when a ship sails

“Light”, as the containers under duress could not be made available to shippers/exporters

well in time. The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step…. And that step

starts from a shipping line’s container storage and service point. Secondly when we

compare the cost of repairing in India and outside, the cost incurred in India is lesser and

work done is much better.

container storage, handling, repairing and maintenance (IICL Standard), fabrication of

garment containers, fabrication of portable cabins and transportation of loaded and empty

containers. We put a lot of stress on the man behind the machine and after comparing

our warehouse gate, which will be submitted to you within 24 hours.
