Sustainable Fabrics

• Organic Linings & Interlinings• Silks, Hemp, Linen, Recycled Polyester

Page 24: Going Beyond Leed

Sustainable SilkSilk is hand woven in India using individual family weavers that we are directly supporting.Fabrics are made on hand made wooden looms - some of which are at least 100 years old.

No electrical energy is used in the spinning, weaving or dyeing process, leaving a zero carbon foot print.

The Silk Dupioni is made on Hand Looms at a rate of 4 yards per day! Hand reared silkworms, hand spun and woven in the traditional method for millenniums.

• It was discovered that the Neem Tree was the only living plant not devastated by the Sudanese Locust Plague, in 1957. They use the seeds and organic compost made from the Neem Tree to fertilize the Mulberry trees that are used to hand rear the Bombyx Morii silk worms. Also by using mostly natural dyes, they create a SUSTAINABLE silk product.

ORGANIC HEMP

Grown Responsibly • The fibers were grown by

independent Romanian farmers in an area of the country that has, for many generations, depended on the growing of hemp. These small families use no pesticides, insecticides, fungicides or synthetic fertilizers.

The Ultimate Floppy Linen

This linen is grown in northern Italy without the use of herbicides, pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. The linen fibers used in the yarn are “tow” or extremely long fiber strands.

WEAVING

The hand weaving techniques used to make these shades and draperies have been handed down for generations. Taking three days or more to laboriously weave one roll of material may seem absurd to some, but to us, using the energy of the human hand captures the spirit of craftsmanship, rather than exhausting our planet’s limited resources..
