Gogunda is 35 km’s northwest of Udaipur, situated on a peak 905 meters above sea level in the Aravalli Hills. It was here that Maharana Pratap Singh I was crowned in 1572. Gogunda has played an important role in Mewar's history. The founder of Udaipur, Maharana Udai Singh II died here (1572) and his eldest son and successor, Maharana Pratap Singh I (1572-1597) was subsequently crowned here. Being on the road between Udaipur and Kumbhalgarh, Gogunda became a tactical centre for war time logistics. Maharana Pratap Singh made Gogunda the capital of Mewar until the city of Udaipur was built and became the new capital.

Maharana Pratap Singh held his final war council here prior to the Battle of HALDIGHATI (June 18/1576) often referred to as the Battle of Gogunda.

Around GogundaGogunda is situated on a high peak in the Aravalli Hills, 1 km off the main highway which winds its way down to the city of Udaipur, one of the main attractions only 35 km’s away. Gogunda is conveniently located 50 km’s from the airport making it an accessible destination for tourists. There are many different things to do and places to see within a 100 kilometre radius of the fort; one of those destinations being the beautiful Jain Temples of Ranakpur and another being Kumbalgarh.Gogunda is much cooler during the summer months than most Rajasthani cities due to its high elevation, similar to that of Mt. Abu which is also located in the Aravalli Range.

Approach to Gogunda

Rawla Gounda is located 1 km off of a four lane highway making the Airport, Udaipur city andother major cities and tourist attractions easy to get to.

Kolkata. The airport is currently under consideration for becoming an International airport by the Government of Rajasthan.

Kumbhalgarh Fort65 Km’s from Gogunda

Kumbhalgarh is a Mewar fortress built during the course of the 15th century by Rana Kumbha and enlarged throughout the 19th century. Kumbhalgarh is also known as the birthplace of Maharana Pratap, the great king and warrior of Mewar. Occupied until the late 19th century, the 36 km wall that surrounds Kumbhalgarh is the second longest wall on earth after the Great Wall of China.

The fort is now open to the general public as a museum and is spectacularly lit for a few minutes each evening. Kumbalgarh is situated 50 km from Rawla Gogunda towards the Northwest and is easily reachable by road. It is the most important fort in Mewar after Chittaurgarh.

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary65 Km’s from GogundaKumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary surrounds the Kumbhalgarh fortress and covers an area of 578 km². The sanctuary extends across the Aravalli Range covering parts of Rajsamand, Udaipur and Pali districts, and ranges from 500 to 1300 meters in elevation. It ishome to a very large variety of wild life, some of which are highly endangered species. They include wolf, leopard, sloth bear, hyena, jackal, jungle cat, sambhar, nilgai, chausingha (the four horned antelope), chinkara and hare. The bird life at Kumbhalgarh is also abundant; the normally shy and untrusting grey jungle fowl can be spotted here.

Known as the City of Lakes and famous for its stunning Lake Palace, Udaipur is a beautiful city in the state of Rajasthan in the western part of India. It was founded by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1559 as the capital of the Mewar kingdom. Located in the Aravalli Ranges, Udaipur is one of the most well known tourist destinations of the country and beautifully exemplifies the Rajasthani culture. It is a city rich in history and culture and is visited by tourists all the year round to get a glimpse of the Rajput way of life.

Ranakpur50 Km’s from Gogunda

Well-known for some excellently carved 15th century Jain temples in amber stone, Ranakpur is one of the five holiest places of the Jains and stands out for its magnificent carvings. Acclaimed worldwide for its brilliant architecture, Ranakpur Temple is the largest and the most significant temples of the Jains.

The basement of the complex covers 48,000 sq. feet area and features four additional shrines, twenty four pillared halls and domes supported by more than four hundred columns. There are 1,444 columns and all of them are intricately carved with different appearance.

One can easily reach Ranakpur Temple from anywhere in Rajasthan. The nearest airports and railway stations are either in Udaipur or Jodhpur.

There are many possibilities to increase the number of rooms at Rawla Gogunda. Some of the existing rooms in the main palace are over 1000 sq. feet and can be divided according to the requirements of the client. Certain areas of the roof top can be enclosed and converted into rooms; as well as the many other spaces on the property available for extra building.

All the markings in RED illustrate how the rooms can be increased from 25 suites to a combination of 57 suites and rooms.
