Lesson 1 September 6, 2020 Genesis 1 Today your child learned God is the Creator of the universe. He created everything in a very intentional way by speaking it into being. Use the following ideas to involve your child in family time and learning opportunities, reinforcing simple biblical themes. HEARTPRINT: God Made Everything The Heartprint is the main Bible concept or truth that we want to imprint upon your child's heart. Repeating this Heartprint often may seem redundant, but it will serve as a vital aid in teaching this truth to your preschooler. Application Verse: Genesis 1:1 FAMILY TIME TALK Your child is learning God is the creator of everything. Talking doesn't have to be just sitting down in the living room or right before bedtime. Use every opportunity to talk to your child about God's creations. Talk about it as you are walking through your neighborhood. Point out the trees that will change colors in the fall and discuss how God created the trees and His plan for the different seasons. Discuss the stars as you sit outside enjoying the last few weeks of warm weather. Talk about how God created each and every star in the sky. When you feel the wind blow, use that moment to remind your child that God is the one who created the wind and allowed it to blow. Use everyday moments to remind him or her God Made Everything. DO God made every plant, including the plants we eat. Allow your child to watch a plant grow by using lima beans. Help your child wrap two lima beans in a damp paper towel. Place the paper towel in a plastic bag and move the bag to a sunny place. Explain to your child that with water and sunlight, these lima beans will grow into a small plant. Check on your beans every day, and make sure the paper towel stays damp. Keep your child from being discouraged when no initial growth is noticed. Remind him or her that it takes time! Remind your child God Made Everything. SING Sing this song with your child to the tune of “He's Got the Whole World in His Hands.” God made the world, yes He did. God made the world, yes He did. God made the world, yes He did. He made it with His words. PRAY Pray with your child as you thank God for His amazing creation. The following is a rhyme your child uses in class to settle down for prayer time: Open and shut them, open and shut them (open and close fingers), Give your hands a clap (clap hands). Open and shut them, open and shut them (open and close fingers), Put them in your lap (put your hands together in your lap). Even at this age, children can participate and learn to be still during a short prayer time. TAKE ‘N TALK
