God is faithful to fulfill His call to Paul

Acts 9.15-16: But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”

God is faithful to fulfill His call to Paul

• Rescued from mob in Temple court- Seizing Paul, they dragged him from the temple…while they were trying to kill him, news reached the commander of the Roman troops…he at once took some officers and soldiers and ran down to the crowd. When the rioters saw the commander and his soldiers, they stopped beating Paul. When Paul reached the steps, the violence of the mob was so great he had to be carried by the soldiers.

• Rescued from Sanhedrin- The dispute (in the Sanhedrin) became so violent that the commander was afraid Paul would be torn to pieces by them. He ordered the troops to go down and take him away from them by force and bring him into the barracks.

• Rescued from Jewish assassins- The next morning some Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul. Then he called two of his centurions and ordered them, “Get ready a detachment of two hundred soldiers, seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen to go to Caesarea at nine tonight. Provide horses for Paul so that he may be taken safely to Governor Felix.”

Exodus 34.5-7

Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”

Not held responsible for parents’ sin

•Deuteronomy 24.6: Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.

• Ezekiel 18.20: The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.

Impacted by parents’ sin

•Their sins can become our sins- Exodus 20:5 “You shall not bow down to them (idols) or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me.”

•We often bear consequences of their sin.
