Your Thoughts Man was formed by God and became an

individual living soul. God placed the first man Adam in a town called Eden. Specifically, Adam lived on the east side of this town in a neighborhood called the garden of Eden. This is Adam’s hometown and place of employment. Adam lives here with all of God’s created creatures. At this point man is all alone as far as other humans are concerned. Now for the first time in the creation account something is not good. Genesis 2:18 says, “And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” God himself says that man being alone is not good. God moves quickly into action to create an help meet for him. This means one suited exactly for Adam. God would created a mate that would perfectly complete Adam. God takes these two individuals and establishes the marriage union in the very beginning. Marriage is all God’s idea. It is not some man-made institution. The foundation of what God desires for marriage is found right here in this first marriage in Genesis.

THE BIBLE WAY TO HEAVEN

Realize That God Loves You. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16).

The Bible Says That All Men Are Sinners. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory to God.” (Romans 3:23).

God’s Word Also Says That Sin Must Be Paid For. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

The Good News Is That Christ Paid for Our Sins. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).

We Must Personally Pray and Receive Christ by Faith as Our Personal Saviour. The Bible Says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).

The Reason for Marriage Read Genesis 2:18-25. Through these verses we learn much about marriage. Verse twenty-four says “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Marriage is established for the reasons preceding this verse. Adam is naming all the animals. He sees each one with their mate. Adam would now begin to realize that he is all alone. God foresees Adam’s need and desire for a wife before Adam even realized his need. God plans to fulfill this need in Adam’s life. God mentioned over and over that His creation was good. Man being alone is the only thing that God calls out as not good. This means it is not pleasing, profitable, or pleasant.

T h e r e a s o n f o r m a r r i a g e , according to the scripture, is to fulfill the need and desire man has for a mate. This is a natural God-given desire. Marraige is to fulfill the loneliness of man. Are there certain restrictions that God places on marriage?

Yes, God has requirements for marriage. From the beginning and all through scripture, marriage is between one man and one woman. We find in verse twenty four that a man is to leave his family and establish a new family of his own with his wife. The man is to cleave to his wife. This means to join with, stick to, or cling to. It is the idea of the two becoming one. Christ emphasized the same idea in the New Testament in Matthew 19:3-9. God’s plan is for one man and one woman for life. Divorce is due to the hardness of man’s sinful heart.

How did this first couple meet and get married? Adam was fulfilling God’s will for his life in verse nineteen through twenty. Adam was working doing his normal routine on an ordinary day. God causes a deep sleep to come upon Adam and He took a rib to form Adam’s wife. God brings the woman to Adam in His timing. We do not find Adam complaining or sulking because he has not found her yet. God has a mate perfectly suited just for you. Satan has a mate that looks perfectly suited just for you. This would be a disastrous marriage. Be patient and wait on God. Don’t fulfill your desires while dating, no matter how much you think you love each other! Love is a strong emotion and clouds our judgment easily. God never awakens a desire that He does not plan to fulfill. It is hard to wait in our society today. Sex is advertised everywhere you look. Passions run high. God’s way and God’s mate is perfect. Don’t settle for less.

We would expect marriage to be another area that Satan will attack strongly and that is exactly what we find today. In America today, we have over a 50% divorce rate. 25.9% of all births are born to families cohabiting together, up from 14.3% in 2002. The average age to marry is significantly higher today with the average age for a female being twenty-seven and a male twenty-nine.
