St.Luke'swillhosttheir31stAnnualHolidayFaironNovember7from9a.m.to3p.m.at5555N.TropicalTrail,M.I. Activitiesincludetoursofthehistoricchapelwhereguestscanlearnthehistoryofpioneerswhobuiltthechapelin1888. Other events include a quilt raffle,plants, face painting, books, attictreasurers,holidaycrafts,silentauction,andchildren'sactivities.TheEdgewoodH.S.JazzBandwillperformfrom10to11a.m. Lunchwillfeaturehomemadesoups,chili,hamburgers,hotdogs,andBBQ.Plusabakesale. TheFairbenefitstheCentralBrevardSharingCenter,foundedbySt.Luke's.
AlargeboatwasdumpedatnightaroundOctober4intotheJudsonRoadcanal.Ittookfourdays to remove it through theeffortsofBrevardSheriff'sDept.andtheirmarinedivisionplusagenerousdonationofmanpower,equipment,fuelandtimebytheN.CourtenayRepowerCenterboatengineservice. Theboatwasregisteredtoaformerownerwhowasn'tinvolvedintheillegalactivity.Therewerenowitnessestothedumping,howevertherearesuspects.PleasereportsuspiciousincidentstotheSheriff'sDept.

SincetheBrevardCountyCommissionunanimouslyvotedanon-bindingresolutionopposingbothCanaveralPortAuthority’s(CPA)cargofreighttrainroutesthroughNMI,anewplanhascometolight.OnSeptember23,AirForceGeneralRenuart,andcolleaguespresentedasolutiontothefreighttrainissuefortheCPA,AirForce,Navy,lagoon,Refuge,wetlandsandN.MerrittIslandresidents. TheRenuart-LarkinExtendedUseLease(EUL)isacollaborativeeffortwiththemilitarytoconstruct,operateandprovidesecurityforacargorailspurthatwillserveallparties.ThePortmayleasewhattheyneedandthemilitarycanuseitforoperationsoftheirown.Thisplancouldsavetaxpayers’millionsandwithPortCanaveralalreadyindebt,thismaybethebestchoiceforeveryone.

In addition, the Renuart-LarkinEULwill relocate and rebuild criticaloperations and storage facilities at theCCAFSwithupdated, safe, sustainable,certifiedbuildingsatnocost.Thisoptionwill avoid the fragile lagoon areas thatare prime for spawning and sea grass,minimizeintrusionintotheRefuge,andavoidNMI…all for less cost than anyotherroute. The CPA planned a new rail linewhichmust come under the SurfaceTransportation (STB) purview, but theRenaurt-LarkinEULisanextensionofanestablishedtrackonmilitarypropertyandnotsubjecttothatboard.TheCPAagreedtoconsiderthisproposalandwehopetheydo.Ourtaxmoniespaidforourportandourcitizensshouldhaveasayinhowanyindustrialexpansionofitimpactsus.
Website Update ExtremethankstoMaryHillbergforestablishing and faithfullymaintainingthenmihoa.orgwebsiteformanyyears.ShehaspassedthetorchtoChrisCookwhowiththehelpofChrisMinervahaveupdatedittoanewserver.Itlooksgreatandisstillaworkinprogress.
Membership Update TheNMIHOA has 493members.However,145arenotcurrentwiththeir$10 per year dues. Thereforewe aresendingremindersandenvelopesinthisnewsletterinhopesthatwecanaddmoretothe"paidmember"status.Pleaseandthankyou.
