Dr. Cornell Menking’s Welcome Letter
Everyone: NMSU has Ecuadorians– and we couldn’t be happier! As we enter our second year of hosting Ecuadorian
“Go Teacher,” we are learning from past experience and only making the program stronger. Working closely with our
colleagues at Kansas State University, we have improved our efforts to integrate experiences in the schools and have
strengthened our ability to integrate the Go Teachers into our Center for English Language Programs. This semester,
we are even integrating a leadership training component into the curriculum.
The campus has definitely taken notice of the increased presence of Ecuadorians. From International Education Week
to the annual homecoming parade and International Festival, Ecuadorians are joining various student clubs and are
making friends with our local students. Even community members have begun to get involved and are joining in
various activities with the Ecuadorians! Our faculty also find advantages in having Ecuadorians on campus, as their
students get to know Ecuadorians and bring that knowledge into classroom discussions.
Finally, our successful involvement with the Go Teacher Program has led NMSU to deepen its ties with Ecuador. In
January, 2014, I had the privilege of taking a delegation to Ecuador that included our Executive Vice President and
Provost, Dr. Daniel J. Howard, the Director of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management, Dr. Janet Green, and
Kristian Chervenock, Interim Director of the Office of International Initiatives. In Ecuador, we signed an agreement
with the Yachay: Ciudad de Conocimiento, as well as signed a contract with Secretaría Nacional de Educación
Superior, Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (SENESCYT). As a result, this Spring, NMSU will receive a new group of
students from the Urcuquí province to participate in an intensive English program that incorporates training in Hotel,
Restaurant and Tourism Management.
We are thrilled to be partnering with Ecuador in so many ways. Go Teacher has become an integral part of our efforts
to internationalize NMSU.

Rose Vidal
Hi Everyone, My Name is Rose Vidal. I am studying Anthropology with a minor in History. I enjoy meeting new people, Renaissance Festivals, and Doctor Who. My message to the Go Teachers: Even though we are here to study, NMSU is all about discovery and with everything here to do and see, become part of the family. Broaden your horizons, spread your wings, you will never know what you like until you try. I look forward to getting to know each and everyone of you .
