HURWORTH atHUTTON RUDBYSaturday, 21 Marchby Charlotte RussellCompetitive racing was the order ofthe day at the Hurworth Point-to-Point on Saturday where there were ahigh number of runners to entries. Itwas a red letter day for Sean Murraywho opened his account between theflags.

Racing started with the W M McIvor& Son Hurworth Hunt Members,Subscribers and Farmers race. VickiSwales, who works for trainer LynneWard was having her first ride aboardlast year's winner Chernik and KateSutcliffe also came out of retirementto have a spin on Boxer Georg.Having made much of the runningwith Blue Bertie, Boxer Georg ran agreat race to finish fourth, carryingoverweight, but it was Beau D'Argentand Lucy Bell that landed the spoilshaving ridden a patient waiting race. The pair won convincingly by eightlengths over Blue Bertie and PhilipGreaves, with Fairy Mix in third underElliot Brookbanks. This was only FairyMix's third run and a win shouldn't befar away.

The Restricted race was part of thenational Subaru series, where the firstthree qualify for the final at Stratfordat the end of May. It was one of thefastest and closest finishes of the dayand could have gone any of four waysas Beau Traveller was the first to headfor home; however it was Wizadorawho managed to assert up the hill andget her head in front under WilliamEasterby, a length ahead of Spruce Upand Russell Lyndsay. Hardy Oscar wasthree lengths back in third and BeauTraveller finished in fourth. "We'venever been certain if she is a stayer ornot, but I think on that evidence wecan safely say that she is, she seemedto relish the hill" said Sam Coward.

The Teeside Ladies Open saw thewithdrawal of Impact Zone as JoannaMason had been injured in a fall in theprevious race, leaving a field of four togo to post. Drom a previous coursewinner, partnered by Emma Toddtook this by 25 lengths from the onlyother finisher, Dead Ringa, ridden byJess Gillam for the first time. "Hedidn't attack his fences as much as hedid when he won the hunterchase atMussleburgh earlier this season and hehung right a bit, but once Oaklands

Bobby came to us he took off again,"enthused the winning rider. OaklandsBobby was right in contention but amistake at the second last caused AlicePetch to lose her stirrup and becomeunbalanced and as a result the pairunfortunately went the wrong side adoll and had to pull up.

The Mens Open was sponsored byMax Europe Ltd and landed a bit of asurprise result for Executive's Hall, ridden by Elliot Brookbanks. Thejockey, having been nurtured throughthe Reveley school of riders is nowriding freelance and is making quite aname for himself on the Yorkshirecircuit. "It was a bit of a shock,"reported the winning trainer SarahDent. "He missed a bit of work aboutsix weeks ago so we thought he wouldneed this but he did it well in the end,"she continued. Monsieur Jourdain wastwo lengths back in second and hisnext target is likely to be theGrimthorpe Gold Cup where the extradistance will really suit. Sposaliziofinished in third for John Dawson.

for Opera Og, owned, trained andridden by Sean Murray. The pair havebeen knocking on the door all seasonand this win was no surprise. Held upin rear throughout the race, hegradually crept into it to have a threelength lead going into the last and wonby five lengths. "I work for DaveO'Meara and do him in my lunch houror before work, which sometimesmeans riding out in the dark at 4.30ambut he's a legend of a horse!" reportedSean. Newspage was second by fivelengths under Chris O'Mahony andFrench Seventyfive was a further 10lengths back in third for Emma Todd.He looked to be back to his best andcan assert over an easier three miles.

The Maiden race had been split atentry stage and 11 turned out for theTees Valley Mitsubishi sponsoreddivision one. It was quite an eventfulrace where only three finished, butthere was even drama between thosefinalists! Apart from one which pulledup, the others all parted company oneway or another, which left Shepherd'sCall ridden by Will Milburn and WitchWay with Max Johnson aboard tobattle out the finish. Shepherd's Callhung left as if to go round the courseagain, rather than straight on up therun in and a stewards enquiry wascalled, however the interference wasdeemed to be accidental so the placesremained unaltered with Shepherd'sCall gaining a three quarters of alength advantage over Witch Way.Honourable Howard was a distanceback in third under Jack Jordan and

was completing for the first time thisseason. "The result was down to thejockey on the day," said trainer AndyNicholls, "he suggested we put cheekpieces on to make him concentrateand he seemed to ride him moreattackingly which I think helped. He'sdone lots of hunting, including twohours as soon as we got him off thehorsebox when he arrived with us! Itwas a great result for the syndicatewho all had a great day," he added.

In the second division, To Beginfulfilled the promise shown at Mordonto take this under John Dawson byfour lengths from Devil At Midnightand Jack Teal. Devil at Midnight hadmade most of the running but ToBegin was always handy and once hegot his head in front he never lookedin danger. Mr Mistopheles was 10lengths further back in third forTommie Dowson on his seasonaldebut.

LANARKSHIRE &RENFREWSHIRE ANDEGLINTON at OVERTONSaturday, 21 Marchby Peter BurgonKinneston-based jockey, KitAlexander, 23, was the one to followin last Saturday’s Lanarkshire &Renfrewshire and Eglinton Point-to-Point fixture at Overton Farm,Crossford as Master Butcher, Rossini’sDancer and Afterclass provided himwith the first treble of his career. Thetrio are all owned and trained by hisfather, Nick, who had to miss the

meeting as he was supervising his fourrunners at Kelso Races.

Master Butcher initiated the treble inan incident-packed STCS (Scotland)Ltd NPPA Club Members Race, inwhich seven of the thirteen runnersfailed to finish. Going well with acircuit to go, Alexander’s mounttracked Tommys Lad from the finalditch before getting on terms four out.The 8-year-old was sent clear after thenext and stayed on strongly up thehome straight to score by six lengths.Alexander said: “He travelled wellfrom the off, was suited by the trackand did well to avoid all the carnagehappening around him.”

Rossini’s Dancer struck next for theAlexander team on his 75th careerstart in the Bonhams Mens OpenRace. After taking up the running sixfences from the finish, he turned thecontest into a procession in the closingstages and cruised home twentylengths ahead of Little Fritz.

This versatile gelding actually startedhis career in a 6 furlong PontefractMaiden in September 2007 and ran 27times over the next two years fromRichard Fahey’s yard. Trained latterlyby Nick Alexander, he was given acareer-high rating of 133 by the BHAhandicapper following his last winover fences at Aintree in October2013.

Kit said of the 10 year old: “He wasgoing so well that I had no option butto send him on and he won very easilyin the end.”

After a few near misses earlier in theseason, Afterclass deservedly openedhis account in the Albert Bartlett &Sons (Airdrie) Ltd Open Maiden Raceto complete Alexander’s treble.Content to track the pace-settingHeckley Herbert from the outset,Afterclass reeled in his rival after threeout, taking it up at the next beforesealing a two lengths victory with abetter jump at the last.

Alexander said of the ex-Irish gelding:“After three runs at Alnwick and oneat Corbridge, he was much bettersuited by this flatter track. The onlysurprise is that we thought he wouldhave got off the mark before now.”

Last year’s Northern Area MensChampion jockey, Tom Hamilton. 19,is only 10 points behind NickOrpwood in this season’s title racefollowing his double on Some Targetand Flash Garden.

The former Willie Mullins-trainedgelding, Some Target ended a losingrun stretching back to January 2011 inthe Goulding’s Garden CentreOverton Racing Club MembersConditions Race. Always in the leadingtrio, he looked as though he mighthave to settle for minor honours onceagain after Another Dark Rum went acouple of lengths clear two out but

Hamilton’s mount found the decisivethrust to regain the initiative inside thelast fifty yards and score by three partsof a length.

It is worth noting that Some Targetfinished fifth in the 4 mile NationalHunt Chase at the 2011 CheltenhamFestival and his last run for the Mullinsyard was in the 2012 Irish GrandNational. Bought privately lastsummer, the 11-year-old is now withPenton near Longtown handler,Gemma Anderson, who said: “Firsttime blinkers made a difference today. He’s a little horse to be carrying bigweights and appreciated this drop inclass after running against the highlyrated Palypso De Creek in a CarlisleHunters’ Chase six days ago.”

Hamilton completed his double onhunt racing newcomer, Flash Gardenin the two and a half mile TaggartsLand Rover Lanarkshire Open MaidenRace for 4, 5, 6 and 7 year olds. Hismount finally got the better of RollThe Dough approaching two outbefore pulling six lengths clear up therun-in, with another promisingdebutant, Rocku, a further ten lengthsaway in third.

This 7-year-old Heron Island geldingwas bought at Doncaster Sales in May2012 by his Meldon near Morpeth

trainer, James Cookson, who said: “Hehad a couple of chips removed from afetlock last year and so his debut wasdelayed. We actually had him ready torun here in February but that meetingwas abandoned.” Overton has provedto be a lucky venue for Cookson asWacket Willie also scored first time outfor his yard at the Dumfriesshire &Stewartry meeting in February 2013.

Keeverfield initiated a first double forLeslie-based trainer, Gemma Cochranein the Hillhouse Quarry Group LtdLadies Open Race. Given a positivefront-running ride by CatherineWalton, the evergreen 14-year-oldgradually forged clear from three outto beat Radharc Na Mara by eightlengths and register his 13th career winbetween the flags.

Cochrane would have been ridingKeeverfield herself but is out for theseason after sustaining a badly brokencollarbone in a fall from Flying Nativein a Musselburgh Hunters’ Chase lastmonth. She said of her father,Alistair's charge: “He usually preferssofter ground but often makes his ownmind up on the day and will soon letyou know if he's not enjoying it.”

Alwaysprominent under the in-form NickOrpwood, the 9-year-old was joinedover the last two fences by Cheshireraider, Push Ahead before edging infront near the line to snatch a headverdict. A delighted Gemmacommented: “He had turned a bit sourlatterly under Rules but has beensweetened up by a change of sceneryin Point-to-Points and shown renewedenthusiasm despite going four yearswithout a win.”

On a warm, sunny afternoon, the wellorganised meeting was a huge successwith all car parks full, a bumper 5,000crowd and 70 runners on near perfectgoing, as well as 28 runners in the fourpony races - just reward forlandowner, Willie Young and his hard-working team.

V.W.H. at SIDDINGTONSaturday, 21 Marchby Andrew NormanThe renaissance of veteran WorkingTitle continued as the Drinkwaterfamily's gelding made it four winsfrom his last five starts in the VWHMixed Open at Siddington onSaturday.

The thirteen-year-old by Oscar wasmet with perfect jumping ground atthe Gloucestershire venue, which wasin excellent condition, and dictated thepace to come home ten lengths clearof Presentandcorrect. Trainer SamDrinkwater, whose father Paul owns

the gelding and younger brother Joerides, said: "He's such an easy horse totrain and keep fresh as he just loveslife. He's better on quicker ground andJoe clearly knows how to ride him as Icould never win on him!" On thesubject of a novice title challenge forhis brother, Drinkwater opined: "Joewill do his best but I'm trying to gethim more ammunition. [Working Title]will go wherever we can find a suitablerace on better ground."

Pointing debutant Santo Thomas, theoutsider of four, produced a battlingperformance to prevail in the HuntMembers race. The nine-year-old,denying in-form rival Full Trottle by aneck, was providing owner/trainerIzzy Brown with her first ever winner.A dual winner over hurdles for VenetiaWilliams, the grey was a gift horse toBrown, who works as Racing Secretaryfor Neil King. The dream for Brownwas originally to also ride the horsebut left that duty to Charlie Dando, ofwhom she was of high praise. Brownsaid: "I'm thrilled as he's had problemswith his legs and we didn't expectanything coming here today. The planwas to sit and hold him up and seewhat happened as he was unprovenover three miles. He may go toLockinge next."

Uppertown Hawk made all in theConfined Conditions races to scorefor the first time since rattling off ahat-trick between the flags in Irelandin 2012. A switch to front-runningtactics brought out a superb round ofjumping from the eight-year-old, who

kick-started a weekend double fortrainer Kirsty Adcock, owner CliveBennett and rider Jeremy Mahot.Ledbury-based Adcock, who tookover the training of Bennett's horses ayear ago, explained: "He's a bit of athinker but he's always been a greatjumper. He likes the quick ground andfront-running seems to have made allthe difference." Bennett, regaining thetrophy after winning the race withGreensleeves in 2009, added: "Wetried front-running at Larkhill to feelour way and it worked. Garnons was adisaster as it was heavy ground and henever got to the front but today hehad his ground and he kept findingmore which was super."

Front-running tactics also enabledThat Beats Banaher, runner-up to OnThe Fringe in the Champion HuntersChase at Punchestown in 2012, to gethis head in front for the first timesince 2010. The eleven-year-old,appreciating good ground, was guidedby London-based barrister BarnabyShaw; the rider collecting the prize inthe Pegasus Club Members race forthe second successive year. TrainerZoe Hammond, who also saddledBravery Scotch to land the contesttwelve months ago for Shaw and hiswife Antonia, said: "Barnaby has beenbitten by the Pointing bug and thisrace has been a long-term target. Heworks very hard on his fitness bycycling round Hyde Park and has onlyridden out twice since the Heythrop. The hunt race at Sandon on EasterSaturday will be next."

The groundtoday is perfect and there's a lovelyspring underneath the surface."Husband Chris added: "Her jumpingwas brilliant and Claire gave her a verysensible ride before kicking on at theright time. We'd never risk her on firmground as she's had knee issues butshe's the sweetest little animal."

Craig Pilgrim's Peeping Thom (PageFuller) backed up an encouragingracecourse debut at Larkhill by takingthe closing Open Maiden. The six-year-old, by Tamure, was bred by Johnde Lisle Wells, can progress in thissphere. Longcot-based owner/trainerPilgrim said: "That was very pleasingfor just his second time on aracecourse. Although the dam neverran, she is related winners with stayingpedigree. It's late enough in the seasonnow and I wouldn't run him on firm

Hameldown Tor hasnow won or been placed in 18 of his20 races between the flags. “Thislooked easier than tomorrow’sKilworthy Mixed Open, but credit tosyndicate head Ken Edwards, who isstewarding at the VWH, but was stillhappy for Hameldown Tor to runtoday,” said Ottery St Mary trainer Ed

Walker. A return to hunter chasing ison the cards.

Welsh jockey Mathew Barber, 23,celebrated his first visit to Milborne StAndrew with a double aboardHellesbelles and Fine Resolve. Theformer made much of the running inthe 2m4f maiden before holding offMichael Legg’s late challenge aboardFoxes Bridge. “I bought her privatelyfrom Tim Vaughan, for whomMathew works,” said Newport’s TomFaulkner, who rode 34 winnersbetween the flags. Fine Resolve sealedvictory with a better last fence jumpthan Bridgend owner-trainer Andrew’Leyshon’s second runner, DistantSound (Evan David). “They’ve beenworking equally well together at home,so I couldn’t separate them, although[my daughter] Rachael would haveridden Distant Sound if she hadn’tpulled ligaments in her right shoulderat Chepstow on Thursday,” revealedAndrew.

Charly Prichard added her name to thelist of successful first-time Welshvisitors when Claire Hitch’s MinellaFifty justified odds-on favouritism inthe ladies’ contest. Will Biddick reached his 26-winner ofthe season mark when Kostaquartagot the better of 2014 winner TurtleBoys after the pair had jumped the lastupsides in the PPORA Club Members’race. The win took the country’sleading trainer Jack Barber onto the21-winner mark but was missed byPaul and Sharon Burley, joint ownerswith Jack’s parents, Jeremy and SarahBarber, who were attending aPlymouth wedding.

David Turner’s Coeur Brule returnedfrom a 40-month absence to open hisaccount in the 3m Maiden. The nine-year-old had not appeared sincefinishing runner-up in his onlyprevious Point-to-Point at BlackForest Lodge in November 2011. “Hebroke down that day and has been in afield at [farrier] Paul Coombes'Salisbury yard ever since,” said Arabrace rider David, who showed hisdelight by performing a FrankieDettori style flying dismount in thewinner’s enclosure. “He had nearlythree years rest before we startedhunting him last autumn. We’ve nofacilities, so I train him on tracks in thelocal woods and by riding around theRoman roads on the Wilton estate.”

LAMERTON at KILWORTHYSunday, 22 Marchby Granville Taylor & Donna HarrisThe old turf on the historic Kilworthytrack (first used in 1925) was described

by jockeys as “absolutely perfect.” forthe Lamerton meeting.

The weather was also at its best withthe massive crowd basking in sunshineagainst the scenic backcloth ofDartmoor.

Two winning rides thanks toMausefalle and Sonoftheking keptDarren Edwards in a commandingposition for this year’s Devon &Cornwall championship.

Mausefalle, trained by DeanSummersby, set the ball rolling forEdwards when staying on well to winthe Hunt race for the Lamertonpresident Mike Bickell. “I wasdelighted to win the Members as daddid 50 years ago. He is a genuinehunter and has hunted all through theseason,” said Mike.

Edwards had to work harder to getSonoftheking home in front in the 16-runner Restricted, just getting thebetter of Templeton on the climb tothe judge. Trainer Nicky Martinreported that her Wadebridge winner,“came from Philip Hobbs and couldn’trun last year after recovering from atwisted gut. He never produced muchunder rules and Richard Johnsonsuggested to take him hunting”.

Welsh jockey John Mathias deniedDarren Edwards a treble when MinellaWeb showed plenty of determinationto hold hat trick seeking According ToHarry in the Exeter RacecourseIntermediate. The winner got first runat the foot of the hill to score in thecolours of Roddy Harvey-Bailey.Winning trainer Kayley Woollacottsaid, “We bought him in Ireland

relatively cheaply. He needs top of theground and has done it nicely.”

Mathias had earlier scored on WinterSoldier, also saddled by KayleyWoollacott, in a Maiden race whichhad to be divided on the day. The five-year-old good looking Apple Treegelding was home bred by LucyFielding-Johnson, who sharesownership with Ces Mitford-Slade.Winter Soldier mastered MountProspex (Jamie Lyttle) by a head afterthe pair had battled it out neck andneck from the penultimate. “He wasbroken as a two-year-old and this wasonly his second run. He will stick toPoint-to-Pointing this year and couldbe one for the (DBS) bumperchampionship,” said Lucy.

Peterbrown jumped well and wasalways in the box seat in the hands of18-year-old Jake Bament to win theother section of the Maiden. “Jakegave him a lovely quiet and confidentride,” commented trainer KarynHeard, adding “He was bought atAscot last year out of Nick Gifford’syard for owner Sally White.” The racewas marred by a nasty fall for ChesterWilliams, the reigning area novice titleholder, who suffered concussion whenSedgemoor Top Bid came down at thethird last.

Jake Bament was partnering his fourthcareer winner and another novice ridertook the spoils in a competitive MixedOpen which was delayed for an hourwhilst the medics worked on thestricken young jockey from theprevious race. Hedley Webb, whoworks as a farrier, had ridden his firstwinner when Loose Preformer, whomhe owns and trains, won at Didmarton

“I’m delighted for the horse, as he’sbeen knocking on the door all thattime,” smiled Spaxton-based LouiseCabble, who trains Foynes Island forher partner, Tony Fear. “He missed thewhole of 2013 with a splint, had anabscess in his foot after finishingsecond at Cothelstone in May, finishedthird in Buckfastleigh’s WestcountryChampion Chase and fell whenchallenging last time out at CharltonHorethorne. He deserved to get hishead in front.”

The win took Harry onto the six-winner mark, two ahead of his nearest

rival in the National Novice Riderstable. “The Fears and Cobdens arefamily friends and Tony was keen forHarry to partner his horses,” saidLouise. “He’s a class jockey and hisstyle suits Foynes Island perfectly. Thehorse stays, jumps and travels and hasalready won an Exeter handicap chase.Hunter chasing would give us optionsin terms of distance, going and type oftrack, so that may be the way to go.”

Cranmore trainer Sarah Gouldachieved her first training double ather local track. Confined winnerSpecial Occasion and Third Chance(Ladies Open) provided Sarah’s twosuccesses. The former, the mount ofSarah’s 19-year-old sister, Lucy, justheld Harry Cobden’s late challengeaboard Roseyroo, with Maxi Chopclose up in third. Im All Set completed aweekend double for Devon trainerClaire Hitch after Minella Fifty’sMilborne St Andrew success. “Hecame via my usual Irish source and isjointly owned by Bratton Down clerkof the course Phil Rawle, farrier KeithParkin and me,” said Claire. “Thecolours are based on Priscilla Boundy’sred and white hooped silks which werepassed on to Phil when she died twoyears ago, Keith’s sleeves and my cap.

The Philip Thomas-partnered GeneralGirling, who beat Just Imagine It atChipley Park, followed up by gettingthe better of another Barber/Biddickfavourite, Earthpower, in theRestricted.

The two concluding pony races werewon by Angelic, ridden by OliveNicholls, 9, and Stambrook Socialiteunder Conor Baker, 14.

NORTH LEDBURY atHEREFORD RACECOURSESunday, 22 Marchby Peter MansellEastnor trainer Nickie Sheppardsaddled two horses in Division II ofthe 2m4f Maiden, the concludingevent on a marathon card at Sunday'sPoint-to-Point at HerefordRacecourse.

Umoristic and Duke of Spain hardlymerited a mention during the earlystages of this contest but they bothcame through to dispute the lead andhad gone clear of their rivals by thesecond from home.

There was not much between the twostablemates on the home turn or at thelast but Umoristic asserted as theyraced towards the judge.

The winner was brought privately byconnections to replace Lacunae andthe experience gained on his previousrun at Cocklebarrow, proved vital inthe closing stages against the unracedDuke of Spain.

Umoristic carries the colours of TheBean Club which is run by Sheppard’ssister Sue Bird, while the winnerbenefited from a splendid ride by thetrainers son, Stan.

Queried about which of horse she wasshouting for at the finish, MrsSheppard responded like any motherand said “Stan of course”.

The first division of this race went tothe Tom Weston trained Tyre HillLady who was home bred by Clive

Hitchings out of his splendid racemare Springbrook Girl. The ownerwas unable to witness the horse’ssuccess as he was on holiday in Spainwith his wife Joan.

The Hindlip-based trainer is unable toride at present due to an injury hesustained at the Cheltenham Festival, but Will Telfer proved an able deputy.

My Fair Rose took the lead a milefrom home, but Telfer began aforward move shortly afterwards andmoved up into a challenging positionapproaching the second from home.

Delaying his challenge until the lastmoment, Telfer moved up onto theouter of his rival on the final bend.Tyre Hill Lady held a narrow lead atthe last before forging clear on the runto the line.

The day had started well for Telferwhen he teamed up with Tim Eade’sStorridge stable who took theMembers with In the Dock.

The favourite took up the running atthe sixth and dictated the pace fromthis point. Their rivals were alwaysfighting a losing battle as a five-lengthadvantage at the 14th was quicklyextended without any effort and thepartnership coasted home to prevail by25 lengths.

“Will used his experience and sent himto the front early on to exploit hisfitness as some of his rivals lacked arun. He gets lazy in front and most goright handed so we will look at an

“How about that, two winners in twodays, what a weekend”, said adelighted Clive Bennett after Stonehad scored a well-deserved win theMens Open.

Anger Management and Count Salazarwere at the head of affairs with half amile to run but they could not shakeoff the attentions of Stone whomoved up threateningly approachingthe final bend.

Jeremy Mahot sent his mount to thefront at the final obstacle and theyquickened away from their rivals onthe flat.

“He struggled last year so has had awind operation and that has helped”,stated trainer Kirsty Adcockafterwards, while Mahot explained tothe horses Dymock-basedconnections: “I wanted him to comeup long at the last and luckily for mehe did.”

The well-fancied Invisible Man andSagalyrique both ran disappointingly inthe Ladies Open. Mae Daffern didwell to recover from a bad mistake byBasil Fawlty at the first but they werestill in front until challenged byGauvain at the end of the backstraight.

He proceeded to open up anunassailable lead and with InvisibleMan running on at the one pace, MissDaffern and Basil Fawlty, ran on wellto claim second spot.

Cold Knight started a warm favouritefor the Confined but after latchingonto the leaders coattails his effortpetered out tamely over the final twofences, and that allowed HannahWatson to record her second win ofthe afternoon on Swift Escape.

John Smith-Maxwell and Jetnova wontheir second race of the season andthe partnership ran much better thanthey had done on their previous outingat Garthorpe to claim the NoviceRiders race, a lone success for WestMidland qualified horses at the Oakleymeeting at Brafield-on-the-Green.

OAKLEY atBRAFIELD-ON-THE-GREENSunday, 22 Marchby Andrew NormanA game performance from theconsistent Kazuri Kate rounded offanother memorable weekend fortrainer/rider Claire Hart as the seven-year-old conquered two well-fanciedrivals in the latest leg of the TBA ClubMembers Mares series at The OakleyPoint-to-Point at Brafield on Sunday.

Claire Hart, who was also successfulwith Dabinett Moon at Siddington theprevious day, drove the winner to leadon the run-in, claming recentGarthorpe scorer She's Real. Thewinner has now made the frame ineach of her last six starts. "She's toughas nails and deserved to win again asshe's the most consistent in the yard,"said Hart, "She's not the quickest buther jumping is awesome so we wereinconvenienced last time at KingstonBlount where fences were taken out.I've got to grips with her now, youhave to get after her but she keepsgalloping." A trip to CheltenhamHunter Chase evening for the TBAMares Hunters' Chase on April 29th isbeing considered. having bided his time with the newrecruit to wait for better ground. Thebuoyant winning handler said: "Hewas weak and looked poor as a crowbut we've hunted him hard and he'sdone brilliantly. There are severalbumper winners to come out of hisraces and although he's not flashy,we've always liked him at home. Hejumps like a buck and, in fairness; he'sdone everything we've asked of him."

Fourth season maiden Flicka's Witnessregistered a deserved victory indivision one after a string of placedefforts. Jamie Goss, the seventh riderto partner the ten-year-old on his 13thstart between the flags, was the subjectof high praise from winning trainerJoan Johnston: "That was a fantasticride. Credit must go to JenniferHarbison too as she does all the workwith him at home. He's had a fair fewgoes and it's about time he won. Theowners (Pauline and Denis Moylan)are great supporters of the sport andI'm delighted he's won for them."

The Moylans had to settle for secondin the Confined with their NativePride proving no match forThetalkinghorse (Tom McClorey),who was able to live up to his name atthe third time of asking since joiningGerald Bailey from Devon-basedtrainer Keith Cumings. "He's lazy andto be honest I don't know how goodhe is," Bailey explained, "Keithrecommended him to us and we goback a long way - in fact he put ouroriginal milking parlour in! We'll have abit of fun with him. If we get a dryspring it might just suit him."

The seven-year-old by Presenting wascompleting a double for Holdenbybased trainer Bailey who had earliersaddled the rejuvenated Gunmoney(John Russell) to make most in theMens Open. The application ofblinkers enabled the stamina-ladedten-year-old to regain his form of latewith another tilt at the Bonham'sFinal, of which he was second in 2013,a possible end of season target. Baileyrevealed his pre-race tactics: "We knewhe'd stay and thought Rash Move(favourite, runner-up) wouldn't so Itold John to go as quick as he can foras far as he can. However, we learnedfrom Horseheath that he doesn't wantto get isolated in front. John is a realamateur but he's a great guy, we've gotsix horses now that are all owner/

ridden and that is the foundation ofour sport."

Alan Hill's remarkable Start Royalmade all in the Ladies Open to registerhis 20th career success. The dualhunter chase winner drew clear of aseven-strong field, dismissing the well-backed Top Smart by 12 lengths. Thevictory ensured rider Gina Andrewsmaintained a two-win lead overCatherine Walton in race for theLadies title. "It keeps Gina going," saidHill, "that's her 12th winner and I'llcontinue to support her. I've neverbeen here but she knows the coursewell so I left it to her. We re-routedhere from Penshurst in search ofbetter ground. I don't think I've everseen him jump as well. Kimble onEaster Saturday will be next and wemay look at the AGA Ladies Finallater on. They (Stewart & Hilda Nashand Michael Avery) don't realise howlucky they are as owners of this horse. He's 11 but he's still like a five-year-old." Although playing down hischance of retaining the Connolly's RedMills Trainers Championship, theOxfordshire handler is certain to pushrunaway leader Jack Barber close withfour ‘home' meetings still remainingthis season.

The Tom Weston-trained Jetnovacontinued his consistent campaignunder John Smith-Maxwell by runningout an easy winner of the Dodson &Horrell PPORA Club Members racefor Novice Riders. Owner KatherineSmith-Maxwell, mother of rider John, said: "I'm so pleased for Tom [Weston, trainer] after his awful fall. We've justbrought him here today but the creditgoes to him and his stable is flying. He's done a magnificent job withJetnova, who has been a super ride forJohn because he goes on any ground;he stays and has some foot." Winningtrainer Weston, who is enjoying atremendous season, is recovering wellfrom his fall at the CheltenhamFestival and was able to watch his TyreHill Lady score at the North Ledburyon Sunday.

The card was rounded off withanother well-received winner as NickDocker guided Amithereyet to a one-length success over Brake Hill in theRestricted. Popular local 70-year-oldowner/trainer John Docker, father ofrider Nick, still rides the gelding out athome and gave a fair assessment of

his eight-year-old's capabilities: "Hewon a members race and wasconsistent in this grade last year buthe's no superstar. A good one wouldalways beat him but he's a good funhorse that's easy to do and verysensible to ride. He's only eight so he'syoung enough to progress."

Since its inaugural meeting in 2004,Brafield-on-the-Green has continuedto develop as a racecourse and thevenue was met with a typically largecrowd on a sun-drenched afternoon. The ground, officially described asgood, had been well watered building-up to race day and a new startingprocedure, based along the lines of therecent changes under rules, was trialledby starter Chris King. Oakleycommittee member Graham Tawellexplained: "I think the new NationalHunt starting procedure is the bestthing in racing for fifty years and we'vedecided to go half way there. We'vemoved the starter twenty yards backfrom the line and the horses are heldbehind the line and then walk towardsthe starter. We've had fair starts allafternoon and the jockeys are verypleased with it so it's definitelysomething more courses could adopt.Every year we try to improvesomething and anything anybodymentions we look at. The running-railcame from all over the country andPeter Hobbs, our course inspector, said the track is as good as someNational Hunt courses."

CONNOLLY’S RED MILLS PRECISION NUTRITION SERIES 2014/15Old Surrey, Burstown & West Kent at Penshurst by Carolyn Tanner

Sud Nivernais, one of the six 20/1outsiders in the ten-strong field, wasthe surprise winner of the Penshurstqualifier in the hands of 20-year-oldBen James, who was making his race-riding debut.

The French-bred is trained for ownerLisa Stock by her long-time friendLouise Allan, who had partnered himto his two previous victories when inthe late Joe Turner’s ownership. “Ialways loved him,” she enthused,

adding “He’s a lovely ride at home, butyou don’t want to go to sleep whenyou’re riding him because he sees a lotof things that don’t exist!” The nine-year-old came to his presentconnections through Mark Gichero, who had originally sourced him for theTurner family and had bought himback last year when it was consideredhe needed a change of scene.

Louise had intended to take the ride atPenshurst herself, but having promised

Ben a ride at some stage during theseason, decided to give him his chancehere. Ben rides out for her most daysafter finishing his morning duties atWilliam Haggas’s yard, where he hasbeen working for two and a half years. It was an eventful end to the race forthe jockey, who lost an iron as he camefrom off the pace to lead at the lastand eventually parted company withhis mount some way after the post.“He got run away with,” laughed

Louise, “but he did a great job untilthen.”

Fortunately Ben’s parents were able tomake the journey from Leicestershireto witness the victory, their son’sphone call, the day before the meeting,to inform them of his impendingdebut having interrupted his mother’sSaturday shopping trip to Waitrose!

A run at High Easter is SudNivernais’ next likely outing, and it isintended he will take his place in theCheltenham line-up. “We reallyappreciate the sponsors’ generosity,”said Louise, referring to themementoes presented to the winningconnections in every qualifier.

Mark Gichero is the go-to agent formany trainers looking to add to andupgrade their battalions, and he was inattendance to see another of his finds,Come On You, finish runner-up fortrainer Nick Pearce, 24 hours inadvance of his 32nd birthday, andrider Sam Davies-Thomas.

Come On You is owned by RuthArnold, who travels all over the worldto judge at terrier shows, and GeorgieBeslee. The latter was unable to bepresent due to the birth of her firstchild, Freddie, who had arrived fiveand a half weeks early three days priorto the meeting.

“I feel sorry for the horse,” admittedNick. “He’s run well all season onground he doesn’t like – he’s desperatefor good to firm. He’s got ability, buthe hits flat spots and Sam, who knowshim well, doesn’t let him doss. Ouraim was to qualify for the Connolly’sfinal,” he continued. “I’ve never had arunner at Cheltenham, so hopefullythe owners can have a good day out.”

Nick himself was one of the sport’sleading riders between the flags priorto hanging up his boots immediatelyafter recording his 100th career victorya year ago. His training operation isproving equally successful, helped, nodoubt, by the fact that he has fedConnolly’s for the past eight years!

Third-placed Heads Or Tails couldalso be Cheltenham bound, assuminghe gets his preferred good ground.“Looking back, he ran a good race [atPenshurst] because the going wasreally pluggy, so we were verypleased,” commented JoannaAndrews.

Joanna’s husband Simon is listed as thetrainer of the son of Milan, but it isJoanna who always rides him at home.“He’s a big strong horse, but he’s aneasy ride as long as you’re quiet onhim,” she explained.

Formerly with Edward O’Grady,Heads Or Tails gave Simon and

Joanna’s 16-year-old son Jack his initialsuccess at Horseheath three weekspreviously, on a day when his sistersGina and Bridget also rode a winner atthe same meeting.

Heads Or Tails belongs to Cliff Myers,a relative newcomer to ownership whooriginally became involved in the yardas a member of a small syndicate.“He’s such a good owner,” saidJoanna. “He loves his horses and hisracing, and is always keen to learnmore about the sport.”

The Connolly’s final is not yet on theagenda for the fourth placed horse,Keith Dilworth’s Time Is Tickin, “butit’s nice to have the option,” pointedout trainer Rose Grissell.

The lightly-raced son of Alflora isreported by Rose to be astraightforward ride at home, but getsvery wound up when taken racing, sweating and digging up the beddingin the lorry. “He ran too free the firsttime and Oz [jockey Oz Wedmore]found it hard to settle him.”

The second occasion was onlymarginally better, but this timeheadgear worked the oracle. He hadearplugs in all day while on the lorry, and he ran in a first-time hood whichappeared to have calmed him down.

Oakley at Brafield-on-the-GreenKATE PROVES THE REAL DEALAT BRAFIELDby Carl EvansA close finish saw Kazuri Kate beatShe's Real in the latestThororoughbred Breeders’Association Club Members' race forfillies and mares, which took place atBrafield-on-the-Green inNorthamptonshire on Sunday.

Ridden by Claire Hart, seven-year-oldKazuri Kate got up near the line towin by half a length, after her rival, themount of Tom Chatfeild-Roberts, hadtaken up the running between the lasttwo fences.

Pampelonne was third of the ninerunners, while favourite Popawaycould do no better than fourth.Trainer Pauline Harkin said of

Popaway: “She didn't jump well, whichisn't like her, and wasn't right after therace, so we will be taking a blood fromher - it's frustrating, because she doeseverything so easily at home and wehad no idea she was sickening forsomething.”

For Kazuri Kate's team it was anoccasion to celebrate. John Mathias recorded his 150thPoint-to-Point winner when taking theMaiden Division Two Part One atKilworthy on the Kayley Woollacott-trained Winter Soldier. It was alandmark which had particularsignificance, as the five-year-old isowned by John’s sponsors, CesMitford-Slade and Lucy Fielding-Johnson of Pontispool Equine SportsCentre near Taunton.

He doubled up when partneringMinella Web, also from the Woollacottyard, to victory in the Intermediate.

John, 24, opened his account onHowdydoody at Garnons in 2007, andwon the Wilkinson Sword the sameyear. He has won numerous Welshtitles, was runner-up in the Nationalchampionship in 2009/10 and2011/12, and is currently lying secondto Will Biddick in this season’s titlerace. In 2011 he rode six winners at asingle meeting at Cilwendeg, and hehas also partnered 15 winners underRules.

He and his partner Amber Griffithsrun a very successful yard, Norchard

Stables at Manorbier, which presentlyhouses 18 Pointers, the majority ofwhich have won or been placed thisyear.

Kit Alexander, 23, registered an initialtreble at Overton on a trio owned andtrained by his licensed handler father,Nick. He won the Club Members onMaster Butcher, the Men’s Open onRossini’s Dancer, and the 3m Maidenon Afterclass.

His first success came on the samecourse in 2011 on Skipping Chapel. He has also booted home 12 winnersunder Rules, and although he has noproblem riding at light weights – heneeds a heavy saddle and plenty oflead when Point-to-Pointing – he hasno plans to follow his sister Lucy intothe professional ranks.

He completed a Finance Mastersdegree at Durham University last year, and admits to “looking for a job, butnot very hard!” He is currentlyworking full time at his father’s yard atLeslie, Fife.

It was a day to remember at HuttonRudby for 23-year-old Sean Murray, who opened his account in the ClubMembers’ Conditions race on hisOpera Og, and was quick to creditGuy and Freya Brewer for all the helpthey had given him the previous year.

While still at school Sean went to PeterBeaumont’s yard at weekends, and atthe age of 16 he did a nine weekcourse at the British Racing School. He has worked for David O’Meara, for whom he had a handful of rideson the flat, for five years, and he hadhis first Point-to-Point ride on Oojarat Thorpe in 2013.

He purchased Opera Og out ofVenetia Williams’s yard for £2,200 lastMay, and often rides him out in thedark – “He’s so easy to do, and we goout at 4.30am before I go to work.”

Having a tantrum can sometimes payoff, as was discovered by HectorWorsley, who scored his initial successon Always A Chance in the 3mMaiden Division Two at Hereford. After his first pony race on a rather

slow conveyance, Hector flung downhis saddle on the lorry ramp andannounced that he wasn’t going torace again unless he had a faster pony.

He was overheard by Jody Sole, who afew months later produced The LittleBrown Mare, who Hector partnered tosuccess on numerous occasions, including winning the South East finalthree times. He also won the CharlesOwen 138cm final at Aintree in 2008,beating his sister Tabitha into secondplace. “I’ve never been allowed toforget it!” he laughed, adding “If itwasn’t for the Pony racing, I wouldn’tbe riding in Point-to-Points.”

He is in his first year reading RealEstate Management at OxfordBrookes University, and once a weektravels to Wales to ride out forJonathan Tudor, trainer of Always AChance. The Welsh connection cameabout when Hector’s mother, Sussex-

based Georgina Howell bought TheSnail from out of the Tudor yard, andAlways A Chance was a replacementfor Hector’s original ride, Barrafohona, who broke down at Chaddesley inDecember.

Hector, 21, has a zero-goal Polohandicap, and has played for Englandschoolboys. However, he now prefersproducing polo ponies with the aim ofselling them on, whether by breedingand breaking in or by purchasing themoff the flat.

20-year-old Ben James made theperfect start to his race-riding career, scoring on his debut ride at Penshurst.Ben won the Connolly’s Red MillsIntermediate qualifier on Lisa Stock’sSud Nivernais, trained by Louise Allan.

Ben’s interest in racing stemmed fromattending meetings as a spectator andgoing to John Harris’s yard near his

Leicestershire home. For the past twoand a half years he has worked forWilliam Haggas, where one of hischarges is the dual winner HeartbreakHero, who also finished runner-up inthe valuable Weatherbys HamiltonInsurance Stakes at Doncaster.

He originally had little interest in race-riding, but riding out for Louise mostmornings after finishing at SomervilleLodge, and becoming friendly withsome of the jockeys, saw him have achange of heart.

He completed a nine week course atthe British Racing School, and inaddition to gaining a Category ‘A’licence was voted best maleFoundation Course student in 2012.Further honours came his way whenhe received the coveted DavidNicholson Newcomer award for 2014at the Godolphin Stud and Stable Staffawards ceremony.

GETTING TO KNOW YOUDate of birth: 6th May, 1985.Job or profession: Freelance rider andBoss Lady at Alfurlong Stables,Bedfordshire, where my partner and Iare starting up our own breaking andpre-training yard. Are you from a racing background? If not, how did you get started inPoint-to-Pointing? I got intoPointing accidentally to be honest! Ialways loved horses but never reallyhad lessons or the chance to have myown. I found a job on a Pointing yardin West Wales as a stable hand aged21, but I hadn’t a clue about horseracing or how a yard was run. I evenhad to be taught how to muck out!! Ididn’t really ride as I was self taughtand I certainly wasn't safe on a racer, but it was enough to start the bug andthe rest is history as they say. What was your first ride in public? The Ladies Open at Lydstep on KishaKing at the Vale of Clettwr meeting in2011.First winner – name of the horse, owner & trainer, the date & thecourse: Lauberhorn, owned and

trained by Roger Wilcox, atHowick on 16th March 2014.

Apart from the firstwinner, what has beenyour most memorableride? My first ride atLydstep. I was petrifiedand had hardly schooled.I'd only been riding out

for a year and Isuddenly found

myself at thestart. Kisha

thanks to me may I add!Is there a ride you look back onand think “could have donebetter?” Near enough every ride I’veever had! There is always something Icould have or should have done better. For which trainers/owners do youmainly ride? Roger Wilcox.Who has been most influential onyour riding career so far? There aretoo many to mention as I’ve had greatsupport throughout, but John Mathiasand Dai Rees where the first people toreally get behind me and help me toachieve a dream that at first was totallyunreachable. Evan Williams was sternbut gave me great advice last seasonand I can always rely on my partnerfor pre and post race lectures!Which are your favourite courses? And for what reasons? I’ve notridden at many courses but I do quitelike Howick. I rode my first winnerthere and had one of the best spins onKisha King there in my first season. What car do you drive? My poorlittle Fiat Punto!Name your perfect night in andperfect night out: Perfect night in –Take away, wine, film and my fiancé.Perfect night out - good friends, maybe a comedy club, cocktails anddancing!Where do you like to go onholiday? What music are you currentlylistening to? Whatever is on Radio 1,although I'm loving Ed Sheeran andClean Bandit. What are your favourite films andTV programmes? Films: The HungerGames & any easy watching rom-coms.TV: Simpsons & Big Bang Theory. What has been either your ownfunniest incident, or the mostamusing thing you have seen orheard at the races? Falling off! What ambitions do you have inracing? I hope to be able to enjoy itfor as long as possible. I’ll never be aNina Carberry, but as long as I canimprove, give a good performance, and stay safe, I couldn’t ask for more. Are there any changes that youthink would benefit the sport in thefuture? I suppose it’s easier said thandone, but I think it’s important to tryand lower the costs a bit. Licence fees, medicals, Hunter Certificates etc aresky high and that’s before you’ve evensat on a horse. I do realise that othercosts need to be covered but feel itshould be something that needslooking into. What are your aspirations for theseason? To stay in one piece! “There’s no point in worrying aboutthings you can’t do anything about –the less hassle, the better,” is CharlieHammond’s attitude, but beneath thelaid-back exterior is the determinationto succeed in his ambition to join theprofessional ranks in the not toodistant future.

It would have been surprising hadCharlie not decided upon anequestrian career, and his comment “Ididn’t have much choice,”accompanied as it was by a big grin, would have fooled no-one. His fatherMike, a former successful Point-to-Point rider and trainer, holds a publiclicence, and the Hammonds’ Pointingyard is now run by his mother Zoe,whose c.v. makes impressive reading.Eventing, polo, five years as chiefinstructor at the Worcestershire PonyClub, BHS qualifications and NVQassessor are just some of herachievements.

Cricket and rugby took precedenceover classroom studies for Charlie atThe Chantry School, but he passed all

his exams despite his admission of“not revising very much!”

Like so many young jockeys in recentyears, Charlie, 18, is a graduate ofPony Racing, in which he had aparticularly successful 2011/12 seasonwith Shoot The Moon, winning theNorth West area title and finishingrunner-up in the West Midlands.

Later that year he made the perfectstart in Point-to-Points, scoring on hisdebut ride at Black Forest Lodge onTimeshift, whose owner DonConstable, Charlie emphasised, “hasbeen very good to me.” The youngrider had received his race instructionsfrom his father beforehand and hadcarried them out perfectly, causing hismother to remark that it was probablythe only time he’d done as he was told!

Surprisingly he has added only twomore victories since then, althoughthere have been plenty of placedefforts, and from his five rides onlicensed tracks he has two HunterChase placings and one fourth placefrom his only flat outing. His weight

of 9st4lbs will certainly prove anadvantage under Rules but for ridingbetween the flags he would prefer tobe slightly heavier. “I don’t enjoycarrying my saddle back after a racewith that amount of lead,” he laughs.

He gained his Category ‘B’ licence lastsummer, and is currently based withRichard Newland. Twice a week herides the 2014 Grand National heroPineau De Re, who he describes as“very keen.” He also rides out for, among others, James Evans, RichardLee and John Spearing, and in the past15 months his Corsa has clocked up30,000 miles.

His immediate Pointing ambition is topartner eight winners this season, andto open his Hunter Chase account, while looking further ahead he has hissights on his father’s tally of 34. “But Iwant to do it as a Conditional, not asan amateur,” he stressed. And intypically modest fashion, Mike has onewish for his son. “I only hope he’sbetter than I was!”

The Bicester with Whaddon ChaseMembers Race at Whitfield (Sunday, 15March) saw the successful return to thetrack of some well-known colours, thatwere last worn when the winningtrainer was carrying the winning jockey!

The trainer in question, PhillippaTaylor, explains: “The black, gold andgreen were the colours of my father,Jack Bradbery, who used to play rugbyfor Northampton Saints – they’re theclub colours. I used to wear them inraces myself, but the last time was inApril 1992, when I was pregnant withPhoebe!”

Phoebe Taylor is now 22 and a final-year student at the Royal AgriculturalCollege in Cirencester. She was makingher Pointing debut on the 14-year-oldIrish Guard, owned by Chairman ofthe Bicester with Whaddon ChasePoint-to-Point John O’Neill andformerly trained by him under Rules.

Phoebe gave the horse a confident ride, making most of the running and seeingoff the challenge of the reluctantBigasabishop when headed at the last, coming home to the biggest cheer ofthe day from the local huntingfraternity. “He’s a really good hunter,”

confirmed Phillippa, “although we mayrun him in more Point-to-Points now.”

Phillippa is best remembered toPointing aficionados as the rider ofStraits “around 25 years” ago. “Wewon ten races,” she reminisces, “atplaces like Mollington, Kingston Blountand (the now defunct) Little Horwood.

So if the horse belongs to JohnO’Neill, why did he run in Philippa’scolours? “Let’s just say we discussedit,” smiled the winning trainer. “And Iwon!” Not just the debate on what towear, but the race itself.

BERWICKSHIRE atFRIARS HAUGHSaturday, 28 Marchby Peter BurgonThe Northern Area Point-to-Pointseason reaches the half-way mark onSaturday 28th March with theBerwickshire fixture at Friars Haugh,Kelso, where a seven-race card with 69entries starts at 1pm.

The Border Hunts Club Members racehas 10 entries and may see Banoge tryto follow up his recent short headvictory over Damiens Dilemma. TheGotfor Man is on a hat-trick followingwins earlier this month at Corbridgeand Friars Haugh, while coursewinner, Whiteabbey has failed toreproduce last year’s form in his threeoutings this term. William Ramsay'snew recruit, Great Gusto shaped wellwhen 4th behind The Gotfor Man afortnight ago and should come on alot for the run. The former WillieMullins-trained gelding, Raise Helllanded a two mile Thurles MaidenHurdle in February 2013 and was onlybeaten half a length by Zane Grey in atwo mile Tramore Handicap Chase lastAugust.

Whatsthestoryman has finishedrunner-up three times in his last fourstarts and gets another chance to goone better in the Open Maiden race. The Toft only weakened two out whenfour lengths 3rd to Lady's Favouriteon her debut in the Duke ofBuccleuch's Mares Maiden and shouldagain be in the mix, while Caherellywas a further five lengths away in

fourth that day. Preacher's Bellefinished out of the frame in fourbumpers from Philip Kirby's yard butshould lack nothing in fitness as herlast outing was on January 6th atSedgefield. Form figures of P532suggest that Exclusive Rights isheading in the right direction and ifmaking the 600-mile round-trip fromPauline Harkin's Oxfordshire base, itwon't just be for a change of scenery.

Tasheba, Radharc Na Mara,Whiteabbey and Tipsy Dara are theleading entries in the Ladies OpenRace. Tasheba has been placed onboth runs at Friars Haugh this yearbehind Ockey De Neulliac and mustgo close with nothing of that class toface this time. Radharc Na Mara hasalready had three hard races thismonth and in the recent Duke ofBuccleuch's equivalent finished 7thbehind 'Ockey' with Whiteabbey 5th.Tipsy Dara is unlikely to run unlessthe going is soft.

The consistent Nelly La Rue finishedfour lengths 2nd to Lady's Favourite atFriars Haugh last time out and hasevery chance of landing the OpenMaiden race. The other seven entriesinclude Pampanito, who was fourlengths behind Paddy's Wish when 3rdhere a fortnight ago. Farm Pixie andStagecoach Jasper have clocked upmore than 40 outings under Rulesbetween them and should make theirpresence felt in this grade.

The 10 entries for the Bonhams MensOpen race are headed by Doctor

Kingsley, trained by Pauline Harkin. The 13 year old ended the 2014campaign on a high with victory in theBonhams Championship Final atCheltenham but his recent formfigures are 553. Splendid Blue has yetto taste defeat in four visits to FriarsHaugh but will need to jump morefluently than she did on herreappearance here a fortnight ago. Thefront-running Mister Splodge is on ahat-trick following back to back winsat Alnwick, while Jamie Alexander hasa choice of rides on Royal Chatelier orBack On The Road.

Back On The Road is also a possiblerunner in the NPPA Club Membersrace for Veteran and Novice Riderswhich has 12 entries. Soul Angel,Momkinzain, Cast Iron Casey andBorder Flora all merit respect, however, the one they all have to beatis proven stayer, Annie Aces. SamColtherd's mount scored narrowlyfrom Fozy Moss at Corbridge and wasjust touched off by The Gotfor Manover course and distance last time.

The concluding Restricted race has 10entries and is likely to concern DunFaw Good, Mister D and Rush House. The latter pair landed their respectiveMaiden contests at the Jedforestfixture in January, while Dun FawGood made every yard of the runningunder Catherine Walton when openinghis account at the recent CollegeValley & North Northumberlandmeeting.

National Hunt trainer and formerWelsh champion Point-to-Point riderTim Vaughan, who trains just a coupleof miles away at Aberthin, has enteredhis Danmurphysdoor in the Members'race and local owner/trainer AndrewQuick could be represented by hisgrey, Sanfroid, which won the MixedOpen here last year.

However, Captain Scarlett, the winnerof the Confined race here last yearunder John Mathias, could take somebeating. Mathias has been in crackingform this season and recently chalked-up his 150th winner between the flags.

Merthyr Mawr's Jonathan Tudor hasalso been in good form this seasonand has saddled five winners. HisTiger Rag has been entered in both theConfined and the Mixed Open and if

going for the former will haveCanshetrain and Medicinal Compoundto beat.

There are 12 down to run in theMixed Open race, and these includePatricktom Boru, an unlucky loserhere last year, and Captain Scarlett, winner of the Confined here lastseason.

Canshetrain, last year's Members' racewinner, is another to be considered iflining up for this race. The ones towatch in the Open Maiden areMimicry, Its My Island and WoodPark.

Whilst in the Confined Maiden theMarc Barber-trained To Hell AndBack, who is by Beneficial and whichfinished third at Howick, should bethereabouts. Boss Of The Moss andBoost The Poacher are two others thatcould be in the shake-up.

PUCKERIDGE at HORSEHEATHSaturday, 28 Marchby James CrispeRemarkable Man is set to try toachieve the remarkable feat oftransforming himself from a winlessnine-year-old to an Open class horsewithin the space of six weeks when hebids for a fourth straight win at the

Puckeridge Point-to-Point meeting atHorseheath, near Haverhill, onSaturday.

This fixture has attracted 73 entries forits six-race card, which gets under wayat 1.30pm with an eight-entry ClubMembers Race and concludes at4.25pm with a 12-entry RestrictedRace that could see the reappearanceof the hugely impressive coursewinner, Fearthedark.

Trained in Exning, near Newmarket,by James Owen, Remarkable Man hasalready won twice at this popularundulating venue but will need toproduce a big personal best if he is tomaintain his perfect record sincecrossing the Irish Sea last autumn.

He is entered in both Open races andlooks to have a particularly difficulttask in the Ladies version as his 14prospective opponents include bothSharp Suit and It Was Me. ACheltenham Hunter Chase winner lastseason, Sharp Suit has won six of hisseven career Pointing starts while ItWas Me's record is almost as strong -ten victories from 15 British starts.

And Remarkable Man's potential MensOpen rivals could include a classy trioin the shape of Ravethebrave, DoctorKingsley and Empire Builder.

A stablemate of Sharp Suit from thepowerful Alan Hill yard, Ravethebrave, won five races last term and scoredagain at Kingston Blount recently;Doctor Kingsley hinted at a return tohis best last time and will relish thisuphill finish; and Empire Builder hasnot stopped improving over the past16 months, winning five times duringthat period.

The Connolly's Red Mills IntermediateRace could be another highlight of theafternoon as its 14 entries lookextremely closely matched. RonnieLawson will be a popular choice hereto follow up his easy Marks Teytriumph but it could pay to go withthe less fancied Desertmore Valley, who was a fine second at Amptonthree weeks ago and should now bereaching peak fitness.

UNITED PACK atBRAMPTON BRYANSaturday, 28 Marchby Stella HavardThe beautiful riverside Point-to-Pointcourse at Brampton Bryan (SY7 0JT)is the longest established in the WelshBorder Area, and near the site ofmany an historic battle down the ages.Hopefully, the clashes at the UnitedPack Point-to-Point on Saturday (28th)will be less bloodthirsty, but possiblynone the less intense for the 89 entriesin the seven races on the card, whichbegin at 1.30pm.

The Robert Holden Ltd ConfinedRace has 10 entries, and the Sheila

Crow stable has the best-rated withIrish Anthem, recently 2l 2nd atBangor, but Willie Bryan may send outCocacobana, who won the NoviceRiders race at the same course. Williealso has has Guillible Gordon entered, who was runner-up in a similar eventat Chaddesley earlier in the year, butlost form since. But the horse likely togive them a run for their money is InThe Dock, who cruised home in therecent Members Race at HerefordRacecourse for the Tim Eades stable.

Stony Road is likely to be a warmfavourite of the 17 entries for theRowles Fine Art Restricted Race, having been a runaway Memberswinner at Howick recently. However,Kim's Quest impressed with an easywin at Llanfrynach, Toodle Horse wasa Thorpe Lodge winner, Mr Jalfrazyhas a win at Chaddesley to his credit, and Heidi Brookshaw's charge IBelieve was only beaten 3/4l atBrocklesby Park before pulling up indire conditions at Chaddesley last timeout.

The eight entries for the Samuel WoodMens Open Race are predictablyclassy, but the fancy is for course-winner The Magerhally Man here. Hewill appreciate the extra distance, andhad Ice Cool Benny 2l behind himwhen winning at this fixture last year.Ice Cool Benny was a recent runner-up at Cocklecbarrow. Kirsty Adcockhas Clive Bennett's horses well inform, and Chaddesley winner Ibericoshould not be discounted. All theothers have claims, especially Doctor

Kingsley, who was beaten 7l when 3rdat Whitfield.

Course winner, Midnight Haze, will belooking to repeat in the Halls PPORANovice Riders Race, which has thelargest entry of the card (18 entries),but it's a red-hot contest. It will be agreat privilege to see the legendaryChestnut Annie, who was recently 3rdto Lauberhorn at Llanfrynach on herseasonal debut. If The MagerhallyMan chooses this option, he must alsobe respected having hacked up in aPPORA Novice Riders at Garnonsrecently. Willie Bryan's two entrieswere 1st (Cocacobana) and 2nd(Overafrica) at Bangor recently, butthe latter is a course winner here andcould reverse the form. UptonCenturion is also a course winner andhas a chance, but the rider will have togo into oxygen debt!

Lifelong supporter of the sport, PatTollit owns two of the 10 entered inThe Malcolm Clark, Steel LadiesOpen; Stratford Stroller, a runner-upon his seasonal debut at Howickrecently, and Well Mett, who was thebridesmaid at Chaddesley last timeout. However, Life Long andBallyjames were both winners last timeout, the latter over a gruelling 3m4f atCocklebarrow.

Castle Connell, 8l second atBrocklesby Park recently, is thehighest-rated of the 15 aimed for thePotter's Recycling Open Maiden, though Nortonthorpelegend was adistant runner-up at Larkhill and willhave improved for the run. Brown

The formerDonald McCain inmate was fourth onhis Yorkshire Pointing debut andfollowed that up with two seconds inhunter chases and the drop back to

Confined level will play in his favour. The main danger could be Sposaliziowho was third last time out but willwant good going. Another who likesfast ground is Pevensey and could gowell on his seasonal debut. “He's reallywell,” reported Jacqueline Coward.“He'll like quick ground and is morethan likely to run. I've walked the trackand I'm gutted that I won't be able toride at the new course. It looks greatand I'm sure it will be a good gallopingtrack,” added Yorkshire's championjockey.

There are only seven entries for theRestricted race but as has been seen inthe Yorkshire area this season, therunners do tend to declare so acompetitive race could be on thecards. Barton Jubilee is likely to havecome on for his run at the Derwentmeeting earlier this month, “He pulledup two out at Charm Park but hebadly needed the run and we havewaited for the better ground with him.We are hopeful of a good run,” saidhis rider Ollie Pimlott. Oh So Serioushas been second on his two outings sofar this season and the 12 year oldcould be looking for an opportunitylike this. Coward is hoping for a big run fromThe Ketchup Kid, “This is certainlyhis type of course and he should gowell. Cath Walton is coming down toride for us,” she said.

In the Mens Open, the versatile MyOld Piano showed he still retainsenthusiasm for the game whenwinning at the Derwent meeting lasttime out and will be going for his 27thPoint-to-Point win. Kings Lodge hasbeen improving throughout the seasonfor William Easterby and TopazeCollognes is another looking to followup on his Brocklesby run but this is astep up in class.

In the Open Maiden, Anddante couldbe in the frame; he has run some goodraces in defeat this season and shouldbe thereabouts. Mr Mistopheles ran anice race at the Hurworth meeting tofinish third and is another who couldfigure. Fairy Mix finished third in hishunt race last week and looks like awin is likely this season. Game As APheasant made his debut at theSinnington meeting where he finishedseventh. “The track will suit him andhe's really well. I think he's a nicehorse and I'd really like him to qualifyfor the Aintree bumper,” saidJacqueline. Road To Ruin is also likelyto run for the Coward stable. “Asharper track and better groundshould bring about someimprovement,” said Ollie Pimlott whois engaged to ride. Mr Conductor isalso likely to line up for Emma Todd,“he's ready to run and I'll be ridinghim,” said his trainer.

Beggar's Velvet travels from the northin an attempt to take the Ladies Openrace. He won on his last start andseems in good heart. Young Hurricanewon well at the Derwent meeting andcould go close again under FreyaBrewer. French Seventyfive put in agood effort at the Hurworth meetingand is another that could be in theshake up. “He’s come out ofSaturday's race well and I'm lookingforward to riding him again,” saidEmma Todd.

The final race is the PPORA ClubMembers race for Novice Riders.Shantou Prince has won on both ofhis starts this year and has done soquite convincingly. Scots Gaelic hasimproved with every race under hisfirst season jockey Fionn McSharryand could go well in this type of race.Locked Inthepocket was second to theuseful Oscar Time when ridden byHenry Morshead at Wetherby towardsthe end of last season on Henry’shunterchase debut. He will have comeon for his reappearance in a Towcesterhunterchase a fortnight ago and couldgo close here. “I've walked the trackand loved it,” complimented AntheaMorshead, who is the clerk of thecourse at York racecourse. “The teamhave done a fabulous job and thefences look lovely but we will need abit of rain if we are going to run. Hewill definitely have come on for theTowcester race but we really needed toget a run into him which is why wewent there,” she added. James Wyatt isalso likely to line up for the Cowards.

“He will be ridden by Alice Petch whorode him brilliantly at Charm Park,”said Jacqueline. “He seems fine and isan easy little horse who likes to befresh.”

BELVOIR at GARTHORPESunday, 29 Marchby Emma Forman106 entries have been taken for a 7race card at the Belvoir Point-to-Pointat Garthorpe on Sunday. The first racetime is 1.30pm with the final race dueoff at 5pm.

The feature NFU Mutual Mixed Openrace at 3.15 has attracted 21 entriesincluding Mike Dawson's dual HunterChase winner in 2015 Palypso deCreek who, with 3 course victories tohis name needs no introduction andwill take some beating if he lines up.Hey Porter is a dual course winner forDi and Jane Williams and ran third atDalton Park a few weeks ago on hisseasonal debut. Richard Russell'sGunmoney was successful at theOakley last Sunday and may make aquick reappearance. King Highrepresents Andrew Pennock's stableand he was a good winner of aBonham's Mens Open at Ampton onhis latest start. Colonel Iain may stillbe on the upgrade; the nine year oldhas won a Restricted and anIntermediate from two starts thisseason for John and James Ferguson. An interesting and competitive racelooks to be in prospect.

James Ferguson has a good chance ofa winner earlier in the afternoon in theopening Barry Owen MemorialPPORA Club Member's race fornovice riders, sponsored by TorOwen's Teigh Bed & Breakfast, wherehe may ride The Rodeo Clown awinner of a similar contest on hislatest start at Marks Tey. Life Long is aLadies Open winner this season and isanother with sound claims; he will bepartnered by Faye Conway. However, the pick could be Lucy Wheeler'smount Done A Runner who she ridesfor Toby Hunt and Alan Hill. Thishorse won a novice riders' race on thiscourse at the end of last season andwas successful in a novice riders'Intermediate last time out. The ridersof the first three past the post willscore points for the Harley RacingNational Novices riders'Championship and the first threehorses and riders are eligible for the£1000 Dodson & Horrell PPORAClub Members race for Novice ridersSeries final at Tabley on Sunday 17thMay.

The Belvoir are currently in the leadfor the Garthorpe Hunts Member'srace series where Navitron havesponsored a £600 prize for the Huntwith the most points at the end of theseason. W. Spence and Son the

Farriers are sponsoring the Belvoircontest. Jack Day could ride eitherElsafeer who was placed third in theCottesmore Garthorpe HuntsMember's race or he could rideMaiden winner Quirky Kirky for TimTarratt. Rocky Island won theRestricted race at the last meeting andcould line up here or in the laterIntermediate race. However, it isdifficult to oppose Lough Inch theCottesmore Novice Riders' racewinner; he won nicely that day in thehands of Kelly Morgan and shouldwin again here.

She's Real who won the GarthorpeMember's race at the Cottesmore forJohn and Tom Chatfield-Roberts iscurrently the leading mare at thecourse this season and holds an entryin the Connolly's Red Mills PrecisionNutrition Intermediate race. Sincethen She's Real has finished second ina Mare's race at the Oakley so is clearlyin good form. Rocky Island may runhere instead of the earlier option andit would be nice to see former meetingsecretary James Henderson in thewinner's enclosure; he has OliverJames entered here. However, it isdifficult to see past Gonalston Cloudin terms of picking the winner; thisgrey has won a Maiden and Restricted

then finished second in an Open fromthree starts and should take this race.

The winning horse in the Roythornesthe Solicitors Restricted race willqualify for the Subaru RestrictedPoint-to-Point series final at Stratfordon Friday 29th May. There are threeinteresting entries here from horsesthat won a Maiden well on their laststart. Shutthebackdoor is trainedlocally by Tommy Morgan and thisCharing Maiden winner is a half-brother to Grand National fancyShutthefrontdoor door.Minerfortyniner was an easy Maidenwinner at Godstone earlier this monthfor David Maxwell and Kim Smyly.Fearthedark won his Maiden atHorseheath easily at 33-1 and istrained by Gerald Bailey; he will beridden by Alex Vaughan- Jones.

Haughton's Bridge looks the pick here;he has been placed second and thirdthis season and represents AndrewPennock and Dicky Collinson.

This is the second of five meetings tobe held at this course in 2015. Therewill be a good range of trade standsand food outlets plus the new Belvoirbar, the Garthorpe Watering Hole inaddition to the Tote and Bookmakers.

COTLEY at COTLEYSunday, 29 Marchby Brian & Gill ArmstrongHenley handler Jack Barber, theseason’s leading Point-to-Point trainerwith 22 winners, holds the key toSunday’s Cotley Mixed Open withChapoturgeon, Benedictus and AskThe Weatherman. The former, winnerof his only Point-to-Point at MilborneSt Andrew in 2012, finished runner-upto Salsify in the 2012 CheltenhamFoxhunter, but has not appeared sincefinishing second to Mossey Joe in theStratford Horse & Hound Cup 22months ago. Benedictus is unbeaten intwo Larkhill outings this season, including the Coronation Gold Cup,one of the pointing season’s fourClassic races, while Ask TheWeatherman has won three of his fourraces, suffering his only defeat atLarkhill in January after he and hisconqueror, Native Pride, had pulled 30lengths clear of their rivals. Possibleopposition includes John Symes’ pairSteeltown and Chipley Park winnerParkam Jack, four-time 2014 winner

Level Spirit and The Wealerdealer, acertain winner at Larkhill untilunseating trainer Ian Chanin at thelast. The Symes’ selection may give theBarber runner the most to do.

Ask the Weatherman and Level Spiritare among the 11 entries for theConditions race, along with Ask TheWeatherman’s stable companionSubtle Sovereign, the winner of sevenof his last eight races. The short listincludes Canada Coombe, Holnicotewinner Carrickmines and the Banks’potential West Midlands raider HallKelly, but the Barber runner will be anautomatic selection.

John and Floss Symes have a stronghand in the Hunt Members race withParkam Jack, Robin Will and 2014winner Steeltown. Stable companionsLajidaal and Mullins Mill andHolnicote winner Rush’N’Rollcomplete the potential line-up.

The 10 entries for the Restrictedinclude On Your Max, a strongfinishing runner-up at Larkhill afortnight ago. The three to choosefrom are two-time Godstone thirdShannon Smacker, Larkhill winnerWak A Turtle and Whataknight, whowas Richard Barber’s final winner atBratton Down in June but has beenabsent since.

Two Maiden contests complete thesix-race card. Spendajennie can takethe 2m-4f contest. Ten More andVillage Whispers are two to considerfor the 3-mile race.

The first of six Point-to-Point racescommences at 1.30pm, preceded byfour heavy horse and cob races from11.00am and followed at the end ofthe afternoon by two pony races.

EAST CORNWALL atGREAT TRETHEWSunday, 29 Marchby Donna HarrisOver 70 entries have been received forthis weekend's Point-to-Point meetingto be held at Great Trethew,Menheniot, on Sunday March 29. TheEast Cornwall host the day, where twoPony races will head up the action at12 noon, followed by the main raceevent starting at 1.30pm.

Come On Mother from the RobertChanin team looks a likely favourite inthe St Austell Brewery-sponsoredOpen Maiden for four & five-yearolds, having run a close second andcoming home ahead of MysteryEdition and Motts Cross at this trackearlier this month. The going that daywas soft to heavy, and if conditionsstay on the dry side, the soundersurface could see them battle out theplacings here.

Dawe Hawken & Dodd sponsor theOpen Maiden for four, five, six andseven-year-olds, which has attracted 27entries, may well be divided on the day.Of the entries Spendajennie from theKayley Woollacott team, ran well atWadebridge when third behind winnerSonoftheking, and had shown

previous form on good ground lastseason.

Turnstone is another entry thatcatches the eye, having finished secondhere at the first meeting under currentleading area jockey Darren Edwards;they could well put up another goodperformance for the Dean Summersbyyard. Whatastormnorm is another tohave run a close second in the dividedMaiden at the last meeting here, whenthree lengths down to Great Camanoe.

In the Jamaica Inn-sponsored MixedOpen, Blazing Whale could go wellhaving taken the winners only MixedOpen at Buckfastleigh. He ran poorlyin a Hunter Chase at Chepstow twoweeks ago, but could make amends forhis connections here having won thisrace last season. Welstonedruid isprogressive and ran a good secondhere under Ian Chanin to BradleyBrook at the last meeting, he looks tobe the main danger.

The PPORA Club Members forNovice Riders race could see HarryCobden get another fine tune out ofSilver Token. The combination haveclocked up three straight wins fortrainer Rachael Green, havingimpressed at Buckfastleigh when a six-length winner of a strong field, thatday holding Ladvie (also entered) in

fifth. Cock Of The Rock could beanother option for 16-year-old Harry, having taken the Novice Riders race atLarkhill this month, and could be thepreferred runner if the ground staysdry. Olivia Hutchings owns/trains andrides Lucius Fabeo; they stayed on wellwhen winning the Members race at theearlier meeting here and could put onanother bold show. This race issponsored by Jefferys.

Exeter Racecourse sponsor theIntermediate race in which the NicolaMartin-trained Infamous Grouse hasquickly progressed up through theranks into Intermediate company. Hegoes well under current area leadingjockey Darren Edwards. Sarah Ticklecould send out Way Before Dawn, having taken the Restricted race herewhen finishing one-length ahead ofSonoftheking (a winner last weekend)and on that form looks sure to goclose.

The Restricted race, sponsored byBlackbun Metals, concludes the daysevents. Great Camanoe ran on wellunder jockey Jake Bament to beatfavourite Whatastormnorm here in aMaiden race, and could be the one towatch if improving on that run.Another consideration could beGleannacreim from the CharlotteHawker team, having run a good two-

lengths second behind Turtle Too atCharleton Horethorne.

On course facilities include hotrefreshments, bar, bookies and anumber of trade stands.

FLINT & DENBIGH atBANGOR-ON-DEESunday, 29 Marchby Ellie HarperThe second and final meeting for 2015at the increasingly popular Bangor-on-Dee course will be the Flint &Denbigh Point-to-Point on Sunday29th March with the first race at 2pm.The opening race is the StorrarCowdry Solicitors Maiden race whereTom Gossop is fancied to break hisduck after several good runs here.Belton Red Fox made a goodimpression here last year and could goclose again.

The Mixed Open is again sponsoredby Rathbones and has attracted a highquality entry headed by Any GivenDay, a new recruit from the McCainyard and currently with a BHA ratingof 143. Others to consider would beNumbercruncher (David O'Brien),2nd last weekend in an Open, andOnetwobeat (Tim Park), who justfailed to nail What A Laugh here threeweeks ago.

The Miles Macadam Confined Racehas nine of the 13 entries rated 90 andabove. Numbercruncher may opt forthis race and could go well againstrecent winner Cocacobana andwhichever of the two Sheila Crow-trained horses turn up.

The Daphne's Original Welsh LambIntermediate Race sees new sponsorsin Daphne Tilley - purveyor of thefinest Welsh lamb - and all 11 entriesare rated between 87 and 97. Icthtec isprogressive, as is Connies Cross, andthe betting may be the best guide.

The Camgas Restricted Race could gothe way of Toodle Horse from theShiela Crow stable or I Believe (HeidiBrookshaw) on the back of a goodsecond at Brocklesby.

The 2m4f Open Maiden Race issupported by CLA Insurance and thestandout is Radio Nowhere (PaulaChaston) with three placings in LadiesOpens this season. Bangor oftenattracts a hot-shot first time out sowatch the betting.

The meeting closes with a PPORAClub race sponsored by racingenthusiast Peter Grindey and hisManton Hire Company and GullibleGordon is an interesting entry trainedby Willie Bryan for his sister KarenBowen. Gullible Gordon won atAintree in 2013 but has not run for 15months, however, this 135-ratedchaser should take all the beating.

The going is currently good to softwith more rain forecast this week.

Alongside competitive racing, twolucky racegoers will once again havethe unique opportunity to win aseason's share in a Point-to-Pointer,trained by top North West trainer,Oliver Greenall and owned by theRidgeway Racing Club. Tickets may bepurchased on the day with the winnersannounced in the paddock on Sunday.

This meeting always attracts a largecrowd so the best advice is to get thereearly to avoid the queues and enjoy thearray of 25+ trade and fast foodstands that frequent this event.

LEDBURY atMAISEMORE PARKSunday, 29 Marchby Peter MansellThe Ellis Dawe Members Race duringSunday’s meeting at Maisemore Parkprovides an interesting contestbetween generations with John Chinndue to ride Murphys Fusilier and EdBailey Royal Riviera.

Chinn is approaching an age wheremost people would be content to sit ina chair and watch television, but heshowed he can still be competitive inthese type of events by finishingsecond in a similar contest at Garnons.

Bailey, however is just starting out onhis race riding career so academics hasto take priority – his experience has tobe gained on the racecourse.

The partnership is now starting to geland Nickie Sheppard’s Eastnor trainedgelding must go close with a clearround, although that is somethingwhich cannot be guaranteed.

A double last weekend for KirstyAdock’s Dymock stable showed herhorses are in good heart. RaleaghHouse may not be the force of old butconditions will be to his liking so hisrivals must be careful not to give himtoo much rope.

Julie Mansell’s Mobaasher has beenrunning against much betteropposition than this and the drop ingrade could herald a return to winningform for the Hasfield based trainer.

Golanzine actually won a race overthis course last May, but wassubsequently disqualified. He does nothave as much experience as some ofhis rivals and the lack of a recentouting has to be cause for concern.

Following this race, the West MidlandsArea will be presenting a cheque for£500 to the Injured Jockeys Fund.

Hanley Swan owner Clive Hitchingsmissed Tyre Hill Lady’s success lastweekend, so will be keen for Over thePhone to deliver the good in the ClubRace which is sponsored by CliveBennetts Blacklands Farms.

A small but select entry is likely to facethe starter with Stratford Stroller(second at Howick) and Swift Counsel(a clear leader when unseating four outat Horseheath) likely to ensure Overthe Phone does not have things all hisown way.

The latter’s stablemate Ice Cool Bennyfaces stiff opposition in the MixedOpen(which benefits fromsponsorship by Staunch Point-to-Pointsupporter Stan Warner) includes twochallengers from the Principality,Rosies Peacock and Findlays Find.

Perfectly Willing is sure to run hisusual honest race, while Ibericorepresents the all-conquering Adcock/Bennett combination.

The Connollys Red Mills Intermediateleads to the Final at Cheltenham

features Champagne Benefit, Dandanand Icthec who all have winning formthis season, which indicates the abilityto cope best with the conditions willbe the horse that prevails.

Devils Boys represents Zara PhillipsGatcombe yard but on previousevidence he may struggle in thiscompany, while Jane Williams looks tohold a strong hand with Raydini orWhat a Bluff.

Several prominent owners alwaystarget the 2 mile 5 furlong Maiden atthis meeting benefits from the supportof local building firm FranklinBrothers as it provides a usefulstepping stone to their future careers.

Tom Lacey has won this race in thepast so Breath of Blighty is sure tofeature on the short list as he willbenefit from Sam Drinkwatersguidance.

The aforementioned Golanzine hasalrady shown he is capable of winninga race of this type, while there aregood reports coming from LucarnoBlue’s stable.

Twister Mix will be ridden byRedmarley’s James Ridley and as a 4-year-old she will be receiving weightfrom a majority of her rivals whichhas to be a major point in her favour.

The Restricted (sponsored by FrontierAgriculture) is probably best left toCulpable Culprit, Keen Eye or ChurchGallery, while the 3-mile Maidenbenefits from the support of Will andDiana Gaskins and Get A Move Onmay have to do just that to prevail.

THE RIDER’S & PONIES CHAMPIONSHIP POINTSSERIESThe Rider’s & Ponies Championship Points Series will runthroughout the season for both 138cms and 148cms riders/ponies. It has become a highly competitive affair with pointsbeing allocated to the first four past the post. The rider andowner of the pony from each height category with the mostpoints at the end of the season will be presented with theirprizes at Cheltenham Races in October. It seems the mostnatural venue for the event being the home of National HuntRacing and gives the award winners a taste of what mightcome following their time pony racing.

THE RACETECH GRADUATE AWARDThe Rider who gains the most points throughout the seasonvia the Champion Points Series and who plans to go on andride in Point-to-Point Races the following year will be offeredsponsorship via the Riders Sponsorship Scheme (RSS) fromRaceTech – this only applies to those riders who turn 16during the 2015/16 Point-to-Point Season.

The RSS is a sponsorship initiative created by the Point-to-Point Authority, which enables riders to source sponsorshipto assist the costs associated with riding.
