    Bhailok Square, on the formerSharoeGreenHospitalsitein Ful- wood, wasnamedby property de- veloper Yousef Bhailok after herevamped the site around four years ago.

    Even though it is on private land,the naming sparked enough concernfor thecitysCorporate ImprovementReviewPanelto demanda reviewof the citys street naming policy amidfears future developers could namepublic roadsafterthemselves.

    There are also plans to stop livingpersonalities having roads namedafter them,as iscurrentlythecasewithchampion walker Tom Benson andPreston North End legend Sir TomFinney.

    Mr Bhailok, who has also namedBhailok Street near UCLan after hisfamily,said:I ama bitsurprised.

    Wearevery proudof Preston wehave been here 50 years andwe haveourprivateland wherewe tryto showouraffection for Preston.

    AidanTurner-Bishop,chairmanof Prestonand SouthRibbleCivicTrust,saidhe favouredstreet namesnamedafter personalities, arguing the prac-tice goes back to Victoriantimes.

    He said: Its a celebration of localdistinctiveness.

    Why not name the main street of the Tithebarn development Wallace

    and Gromit Way? And lets have aCoun Anthony Gornall Street heisfroma noblefamily fromPreston.

    TheVictorians weregoodat streetnames robust,sometimes quirkyandsentimental or patriotic. We are tootimidtoday.

    InPreston, I likeColdBathStreet,SchleswigStreet,HolsteinStreetandJutland Street.
