The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection

Introduction

In the previous Unit we revealed a marvellous key (the S.O.P. Key) which, whenput into practice, helps us to awaken consciousness, and allows us to experiencefor ourselves the higher dimensions of space.

It is necessary to know that there are seven fundamental dimensions.Regrettably, the sleeping man only perceives three of those dimensions. Theintellectual animal mistakenly called man has a three-dimensionalpsychological idiosyncrasy; that is why his spatial sense only perceives length, width and height.

The complete development of the spatial sense is only possible with theawakening of consciousness. The clear perception of the higher dimensions ofspace is only achieved by awakening consciousness.

Dimensional Geometry

The trace which a point leaves, when it moves in space, forms a line. The trace which aline in motion leaves in space forms a surface (a plane). The trace which a surface inmotion leaves in space forms a solid. The trace which a solid leaves, when it moves inspace, forms a hyper-solid…

We can only perceive and imagine lines, planes and solid; however, our spatial sense isunable to perceive or imagine hyper-solids.

The line forms the length of things. The plane or surface forms the height of things. Thesolid shows us the depth or width of things. These three aspects or geometrical factorsdelimit the three-dimensional space.

The line is the first dimension, the one-dimensional space. The surface is the seconddimension, the two-dimensional space. The solid is the three-dimensional space, thethird dimension. The hyper-solid is the four-dimensional space or fourth dimension, which our poor spatial sense cannot perceive, but it does not mean that it does notexist.

1. One-dimensional segment. Finite. Limited (it has ends).2. Segment curved on itself, thanks to the existence of the plane (two dimensions) containing it. Now it

is still finite (it has a measurement), but it is limitless (it has not limits or ends).3. Spherical surface. This spherical surface is finite (it has a measurement), but it is limitless; it has no

limits or ends. It was possible for it to curve on itself thanks to the three-dimensional spaceenveloping it.

Analogously, our three-dimensional space curves thanks to the existence of a space situated in a higherdimension. We thus have the curved, finite and limitless space, of which Einstein spoke to us.

The 4th Dimension

The fourth dimension was mathematically explained by Einstein. Ever since him, scientists have called the fourth dimension time. Some decades before Einstein, in1857, Richard Wagner conceived his opera Parsifal. In it he left a token of a higher typeof knowledge, prior to modern scientism, in which the fourth dimension was alreadyknown. Let us read part of a dialogue between thehero Parsifal and his master Gurnemanz:

Parsifal: ‘I just travelled a little, and yet I seem tohave gone far away’.Gurnemanz: ‘You see, my son, here time becomesspace’.

Esoteric Tradition has always known of theexistence of the fourth dimension, and teacheshow the student can experience it directly.

As we have said above, we have a spatialperception of three dimensions (length, width andheight). Unfortunately, we do not manage to fullyunderstand the time factor as the fourthdimension, and how it is related to the other three.

For example, a table has, besides its threedimensions (length, width and height), a fourth factor, which is time. When did thecarpenter make the table? He may have made it just some minutes ago, or just somemonths or years ago. It is clear that the table is subjected to the time factor, which is abasic characteristic with which we measure how old any object, being, circumstance, etc. is. Everything has its length, its height, its width, and also its time. Everything isborn, grows, gets old and dies. Everything that exists under the sun takes up a spaceand a definite period of time. Therefore, we can state, without fear of making amistake, that time is the fourth dimension of all things.

The Two Aspects of Time as Fourth Dimension

It is important that we know that the fourthdimension has two fundamental properties oraspects. On the one hand, there is the temporal orchronometric aspect, which we can regard it, tous, as the ‘visible’ property of the fourthdimension. On the other hand, we have the spatialaspect of time, which is its ‘invisible’ property. Outof these two properties we are only able toperceive, and very subjectively, the first one; weare completely unaware of the second one.

The chronometric aspect of the fourth dimensionis the superficial part of it. Where can we see thisproperty? Well, naturally, we can see this propertyin the deterioration of all things. For example, what do we see in a tree as far as the fourthdimension is concerned? We see the passing oftime for the tree, its deterioration, its ageing. Timepasses and things gradually become old. In thefigure of our grandparents we can see the chronometric factor of the fourth dimension:we can see lifetime accumulated in their bodies.

Page 6: gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher ... · gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection The Higher Dimensions of Space and

www.gnosis-correspondence-course.net

Another very different thing is the spatial aspect of the fourth dimension. This is thevital or etheric world, the space where the Elemental Kingdoms of Nature exist. This isthe place where the vitality of everything that exists here, in this physical world, lies. Itis the so-called ‘Paradise’ of the ancients. It is ‘Eden’, where the Jinas regions are… In thehuman being, this spatial aspect is the etheric body, or the ‘aura’, enveloping it.

Relativity and the Curve of Time

In order to better understand the temporal aspect of the fourth dimension, we mustbear in mind two things that will help us to change our wrong way of thinking as to theconcept of time. On one hand, its relativity, and on the other hand, the curvedconception of time.

The relativity of time is in connection with the greater or lesser rate of the heartbeatsof every living being, with the greater or lesser vibratory frequency of every livingbeing’s energy constitution.

The unit of life for any creature, its time of life, isactually equivalent to every beat of its heart. Thetotal life span of any world that sparkles in thedeep bosom of the changeless infinite, amountsto a complete sum of 2,700 millions of cosmicheartbeats. The number of heartbeats forbeasts, men and worlds is always the same. It isalways made up of 2,700 millions of beats, whether it occurs in a faster or slower way. Thehumble insect, which only lives a summerafternoon, indeed lives as long as a man or aworld. What happens is that it lives it in anothertime scale, in a much faster way.

Time is far too relative. We can see many actors passing through the theatre of life, allof them carrying their own chronometers. We are all like living clocks, and our windingperiod is perfectly calculated to give 2,700 millions of heartbeats; apart, of course, fromkarmic questions, which can shorten or prolong our existence. All of this should make usreflect.

The heart rate of those who lead hectic lives, for example, business executives, thosewho are under stress, etc., is always very fast. Evidently, this is an indication that they

Page 7: gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher ... · gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection The Higher Dimensions of Space and

are going to get old earlier, and that they may die earlier. The opposite is also true forthose who lead a more serene, if active, life. Their time will, naturally, lengthen.Lifetime is relative. It depends not only on age, but on the vital pace of the fourthdimension in us.

Another thing to bear in mind is how we must conceive time. Before Einstein surprisedthe world with his magnificent Theory of Relativity, any educated person, in those days, conceived the time factor in a linear manner, that is, as a straight line that extends intime, from the past to the future. This idea still prevails today in most people. This wayof thinking leads human beings, for example, to the conviction that humanity came intoexistence in a particular point in history, started its evolutionary course and continued todevelop until it arrived at the point in which we are now. And according to this way ofthinking, evolution, which never stops, will lead man to levels of development which wecannot even remotely imagine now. This is the false idea on which all evolutionarytheories are based.

The Esoteric Tradition knows that time iscurved, not linear. It is curved becauseeverything tends to meet again at theoriginal starting point, in order to startagain a new cycle. Therefore, the idea ofpermanent evolution is false. The fact ofthe matter is that we continuouslyencounter ourselves, repeating the sameas it already happened. Everythingrepeats itself; only appearances or visiblecircumstances: clothes, external things…change.

People have a linear conception of time. However, Nature itself shows us that time is curved: it repeats its seasons andphenomena every year. The human being perpetuates himself with another newgeneration in which his physical and psychological cycles repeat themselves. There isnothing new under the Sun. These phenomena explain and demonstrate two veryimportant laws: the Law of Eternal Return of All Things and the Law of Recurrence(two laws which we will study in depth in coming Units).

The Fifth Dimension

There is a dimension that is beyond thefourth dimension. This is the fifth dimension. How is it called? It is called Eternity. Thisconcept is specially connected with thetemporal aspect of the fifth dimension, because, as in the case of the fourthdimension, there are also two fundamentalproperties in the fifth dimension: one is itstemporal aspect, and the other is its spatialaspect.

What is eternity? People, in their wrong wayof thinking, conceive it as something deep, distant and infinite, beyond time… We mustchange this way of thinking. Eternity is theeternal here and now. It is the presentmoment, the eternal instant in which wealways are. Eternity is each one of the pointsthat make up the curved line of time. Thecurve of time unfolds in an eternal instant…

Every one of us has his own lifetime. Eversince we are born, our past and our future arealready preset. Our curve of life is markedmechanically, and it processes itself frominstant to instant. By Law of Recurrence, what

is in store for us is a series of inescapable commitments for tomorrow itself, and fornext week, and for next month, and for the coming years. All these events are going totake place mechanically, unless there appears an element of change which cancompletely modify the mechanics of our lifetime. That element, of course, is theconsciousness. The ability to do begins with the awakening of consciousness.

The fifth dimension, in its temporal aspect, is the right now. Eternity is the eternalpresent, in which those who awakened consciousness live. For them there is nothingold to be repeated; there is nothing routine and monotonous. Every moment is new. They have awakened, and are continuously conscious here and now, from instant toinstant.

Page 9: gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher ... · gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection The Higher Dimensions of Space and

The ‘disease of tomorrow’ has, unfortunately, crystallized in us, and we always thinkthat everything is going to change for the better tomorrow, that everything is going towork out better for us tomorrow. We have the mechanical hope that tomorrow thingswill change for our good. We thus forget to live in the present and, instead, we actuallylive in an illusory world of dreams, fantasies and unrealities.

On the other hand, the spatial aspect of the fifth dimension is the Astral World, a worldthat is here and now. Our state of consciousness, however, does not allow us toexperience it. The Earth and all that exists on it have their astral reality. We only knowthe astral region through dreams. During the sleeping hours we unconsciously wanderin the astral world. We have to learn to awaken consciousness in the astral world.

Page 10: gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher ... · gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection The Higher Dimensions of Space and

The Sixth and Seventh Dimensions

Beyond the fifth dimension is the sixth dimension. Beyond time and eternity is theworld of natural causes. We can hardly image this world. We can only sense it when weunderstand that all the phenomena that take place in the physical world have a cause ornoumenon, which is their reason d’être. All that is to take place is gestated in the world

of natural causes. Our karmic destiny iswritten there. Every effect has its cause.Action and consequence are intimatelylinked to each other. Depending on ourdestiny, everything is happening to us intime, taking place from instant toinstant (in eternity).

A conscious man is not a ‘man-machine’subjected to a mechanical fate. He hasthe ability to do. He is in command of hislife. That is the great freedom which theawakening of consciousness offers.

In the sphere of dimensions, there alsoexists the absolute zero. The zerodimension is the world of the Pure Spirit. This is the seventh dimension. In ourpresent state, we cannot conceive thisdimension.

Multidimensional Life

Just as there are different spatial dimensions or regions, there are also different formsof manifested life in each one of those dimensions. According to its level ofconsciousness, every living being perceives the specific dimension which its facultiesallow it to experience.

The one-dimensional creatures or beingsonly possess sensations (cold and heat, pleasure and pain, liking and dislike, pleasantand unpleasant). They are confined in anarrow linear world, from which they cannotescape; for example, the snail.

The two-dimensional creatures or beings, such as the dog, the cat, the horse (and ingeneral all the mammals, except the rationalmammal mistakenly called man), possesssensations and representations. They areconfined in a narrow world of perception ofsurfaces and planes, from which they cannotescape either.

The intellectual animal possesses sensations, representations and concepts. The rational power gives him the conceptual possibility, which allows him to perceive the third factor of space. The 'rational animal', the sleepingman, is trapped in a narrow world of three-dimensional perception, from which he canonly escape by awakening consciousness.

The spatial sense could never be developed without the awakening of consciousness. The spatial sense includes, in an absolute way, the five senses of sensory perceptionplus many other senses, of which physiologists are completely ignorant.

By developing the spatial sense we can see all things in themselves, as they are. Bydeveloping the spatial sense we can see the body of a man in itself, as it is. The image ofa man is not the man in himself. With a developed spatial sense we can see man’s vitalbody, the energy body that envelops his physical body (known as the Lingam-Sarira inthe Hindu tradition). This body is the vital seat of all biological, physical, chemical,

Page 12: gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher ... · gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection The Higher Dimensions of Space and

electro-magnetic, etc. phenomena. Without the vital fundus, the mechanics of cellularlife would be impossible. The vital body is the thing in itself, the body in itself of a man.

What is the thing in itself of a plant? It is its vital body. What is the thing in itself of ananimal? It is its vital body. What is the thing in itself of a cube? It is its four-dimensionalcube, that is, the hyper-solid situated in the fourth dimension.

Inferior animals possess sensations. Superior animals possess sensations andperceptions. The intellectual animal possesses sensations, perceptions and concepts.

There are two types of animal cerebration. The first one is cerebration based on themechanical association of ideas, words and thoughts. The second one is cerebrationthrough forms, which is based on the mechanical association of images. Both types ofcerebration are animal in nature, and give us a way of thinking which makes us perceivethe world in a limited and relative way.

Page 13: gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher ... · gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection The Higher Dimensions of Space and

We need a new way of thinking, a higher type of logic which can allow us to see theworld as it is. We need the fourth unit of reasoning. Whoever wants to acquire thefourth unit of reasoning must free himself from his three-dimensional psychology, through meditation and the awakening of consciousness.

The fourth unit of reasoning is as different from concept as the latter is from perception. The fourth unit of reasoning allows us to see the fourth characteristic of all things. Thefourth unit of reasoning allows us to directly know the fourth coordinate, the fourthvertical, the fourth spatial dimension.

Actually, it is a fact that the three-dimensionality of space is a property of the reflectionof our consciousness. The three-dimensionality of the world is just a result of our ownindividual perceptibility. The perception of space depends on our spatial sense.

Everyone sees the world according to the quality of his spatial sense. This means that inour environment and around us there can coexist beings that live in different worlds, according to the quality of their spatial sense. We will illustrate this point with someexamples:

The snail sees the world in one dimension because it is a one-dimensional being.Superior animals, such as the dog, the horse, the elephant, etc., see the world in twodimensions because they are two-dimensional animals. The intellectual animal sees the

Page 14: gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher ... · gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection The Higher Dimensions of Space and

gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection

www.gnosis-correspondence-course.net

world in three dimensions because he is a three-dimensional being. True Men see theworld in four, five, six and even seven dimensions, because their spatial sense isextraordinarily developed.

The snail is guided by the pleasure-pain sensitive compass, and always tries to reach theedge of the leaf on which it delightfully rests, and it instinctively moves away from thedead leaf. All the snail's movements take place in one line, going from the unpleasantto the pleasant. For the snail, there is nothing outside that line. That line is its wholeworld. For a snail, the world is linear.

Superior animals, such as the dog, the cat, the horse, see the world as a surface, as aplane. Anything that is not found in that plane belongs to another dimension, and theycannot perceive it as it is. A dog, or a cat, perceives any convex surface or any angle asbodies in motion. The angle of the house, which the horse goes past every day, isperceived by it as a body in motion which repeat itself in time. The animal lacksconcept, to correct its perceptions. The man who travels swiftly in a car perceives treesthat move, houses that come and go, etc., but since he is a three-dimensionalintellectual animal, he corrects his own perceptions through concept. There are in theworld four-dimensional, five-dimensional, six-dimensional and even seven-dimensionalbeings that see the three-dimensional beings in the same way as the latter see thetwo-dimensional and one-dimensional beings.

The intellectual animal possesses, in himself, in a latent state, immense possibilitieswhich, when properly developed, allow him to become an awakened man, a consciousbeing, entitled to live and to manifest himself in the higher dimensions or regions ofspace.

The Gnostic Movement has scientific systems for developing the spatial sense.Whoever develops the spatial sense acquires the fourth unit of reasoning.Three-dimensional reasoning is obsolete for the New Era that is now beginning. Weneed a new way of thinking…

ASTRAL PROJECTION

The Astral World

The astral world is the world of dreams. We all visit this region every time we go tosleep. The astral world is a parallel world in which we live and act in our astral body. Adream is an experience in the astral world, only it is unconsciously experienced.

The astral world is the world of symbols, where the realities of the spirit take on asymbolic and mythological aspect, in order to reveal to us transcendental truths, solutions to many problems, or simply as a guidance in our daily life.

The astral world is eternity, where the past, the present and the future unite in aneternal now. It is possible, therefore, that we can see the past in a dream, including

Page 16: gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher ... · gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection The Higher Dimensions of Space and

other existences of ours, and it is also possible that we can see the future. More thanone of us may have had a dream which later came true in the physical world and, undoubtedly, we have all dreamt of a remote time unknown to us…

In the astral world are found the Temples of Wisdom, where we can go consciously andpositively, to receive teachings from the greatest and wisest masters of the WhiteBrotherhood, and to know the great mysteries of nature and the cosmos. In this parallelworld, called the astral world or world of dreams, we can also study our own innerworld. We can explore everything that lies in our subconscious, the origin of ourproblems, traumas, adversities, etc. We can see ourselves as we are and not as weapparently are. We can study the different undesirable psychological elements withinus… The astral world is the University of Self-Knowledge.

The spiritual Essence of every human being has emanated from a Higher part ofhimself: his Inner Real Being. God as a father is Wisdom; God as a mother is Love. Thehuman being has a Father who is in secret and a Divine Mother. If we manage to be

Page 17: gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher ... · gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection The Higher Dimensions of Space and

conscious in the astral world, if we manage to become aware of what we do every timewe go to sleep, we could talk face to face to our Inner Parents and receive higherknowledge from them.

The astral world or world of dreams is a means through which we can directly know themarvels of the universe for ourselves. We thus stop theorizing and are properly guidedin the Spiritual Path. In this way we free ourselves from the labyrinth of theories andmore theories, in which the human mind is trapped.

The important thing is to experience for ourselves the reality of the higher dimensions. We all have a chance to achieve it. We only need to put our mind to it and to have thenecessary patience so as to practise the relevant exercises every day.

There are some pseudo-occultists and pseudo-esoterists who are spreading ‘fearmongering' information against voluntary astral projection. Actually, astral projection isnot dangerous whatsoever, because all human beings astral project themselves duringthe sleeping hours. Unfortunately, people are in their astral bodies with theirconsciousness asleep. People do not know how to astral project at will.

There is no danger involved inbecoming conscious of one's ownnatural functions, such as eating, drinking, breathing, astral projecting, etc. All these functions are completelynatural. If astral projection wasdangerous, as fear mongers say, therewould be no people living on the Earthby now, because everybody astralprojects every night, regrettably withtheir consciousness asleep, and yetnothing wrong happens to them. Sowhat?

In the spiritual path, we need to consciously act in the astral world. It is urgent toawaken our consciousness. Anyone who learns to astral project at will, can study at thefeet of the Great Masters of Wisdom. In the astral world we meet our Guru, who willinstruct us in the Great Mysteries.

The Fundamental Key for Astral Projection

Astral projection and attention are anintegral whole. There exists a state oftransition between the waking state andsleep. Every human being leaves hisphysical body in that instant, yetinvoluntarily. By paying attention to it, wecan leave our body voluntarily andconsciously in the instant of transition thatthere is between the waking state andsleep. The important thing is to watch oursleep. When we reach a state of lassitudeand deep relaxation, in which sleep beginsto take us over, then we can get up fromour bed and leave our house for theTemples of Instruction of the higher worlds(Master Samael recommends to go to theGnostic Church of the astral world).

This instruction must be translated intoaction. Those who have read a great dealmistakenly suppose that it is a mentalexercise. They think that they must get upmentally. We repeat, it must be translatedinto action: We have to get up asstraightforwardly as we do every morning.

This is the way in which we can go in ourastral body to the Temples of the WhiteLodge, to study at the feet of the Master. This is far better than to fill our heads withbooks and theories. To accumulate theoriesin the mind creates confusion. Theoriesdistort the mind and damage the brain.Occult Science is studied in the innerworlds. Those who cannot astral project atwill do not know Occultism.

MASTER SAMAEL'S ANSWERS REGARDINGASTRAL PROJECTION

1. Question: What is astral projection?

Answer. Do you really not know what astral projection is? I understand very well thatyour question is sincere. Astral projection is exceedingly simple. It is a naturalphenomenon, like eating, drinking, breathing, etc. It is clear that when the physicalbody goes to sleep, the soul leaves it and travels to many places. When the soul returns, when it comes back into its body, it often remembers the places it visited, the people ittalked to, etc. This is what is known as dreams. This is what astral projection really is.

2. Can astral projection be done only in a dream, or can it also be done at will?

A. In any case, for someone to be able to astral project, even if it is done at will, what isneeded is some sleep.

3. Is astral projection dangerous?

A. I think that it can never be dangerous to become aware of our own naturalphenomena. We must become aware of the food we eat, of what we drink, of our stateof health, and also of the process of astral projection, which takes place every day inevery human being.

4. Can you, please, tell me the technique for astral projection. I would like to go to Paris atwill.

A. What you always do, every night, in an involuntary and unconscious way, learn to doit in a voluntary and conscious way. You have always astral projected in your life. Assoon as the body falls asleep, the soul leaves the body; unfortunately, in an unconsciousway. Do the same thing, but in a voluntary and conscious way. I repeat: when you reachthe state of lassitude, characteristic of sleep, when you begin to fall asleep, thenimagine that you are like a subtle and vaporous ghost. Think that you are going to leaveyour body. Understand that you are not your body. Understand that you are a soul. Feelthat you are a soul, and get up from your bed gently and delicately, as souls do. What Iam now saying to you must be translated into concrete action. It is not a question ofthinking, but of doing! As soon as you get up, take a little jump in your own bedroomwith the firm intention of floating in the surrounding environment. It is clear that if you

Page 20: gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher ... · gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection The Higher Dimensions of Space and

gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection

www.gnosis-correspondence-course.net

float, it is because you are outside your physical body. Then you can leave yourbedroom and float in the atmosphere. You can go to Paris, to London, or wherever youwant. But if you do not float, it is because you got up from your bed with your physicalbody. If this is the case, go back into your bed and repeat the experiment.

5. When you float, does the physical body remain in bed?

A. I want you to understand this point. It is clear that if you float in the surroundingenvironment, it is because you are outside your physical body. If that is the case, youmust understand that your body has been left in bed, and that you are outside yourbody and a long way from your bed.

6. When you feel that you are floating, should you think that you are travelling to aparticular place?

A. I want you to understand that this is not a question of thinking, but of doing, which isaltogether different. For example, I am now seeing you seated on that chair, and if youwant to get up from that chair and go to the street, but if you do not do anything, if youdo not act, it is clear that you will remain sitting on that chair. So, what is needed isaction. Do you understand?

7. This is what I like about Gnosis. If there is something that I do not understand, someonealways clearly explains it to me.

A. That is clear. We like accuracy in everything, precision.

8. Can you tell me a concrete experience of conscious astral projection?

A. I am going to tell you a personal experience with the greatest pleasure. I will tell youmy first experience in astral projection. I was still very young when I decided to astralproject myself at will. I clearly remember that I then paid a great deal of attention tothe process of sleep, and when I felt that I was falling asleep, that I was in that state oftransition between the waking state and sleep, I then acted intelligently.

I did not begin to think that I was going to astral project myself because, it is obviousthat, had I done that, I would have remained thinking and would not have carried outthe longed-for experiment. I repeat: I acted. I very gently got up from my own bed and,as I did it, a very natural separation between my soul and my body took place. My soulleft my body, and my body remained sleeping in my bed.

Page 21: gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher ... · gnosis correspondence course - Unit 5 The Higher Dimensions of Space and Astral Projection The Higher Dimensions of Space and

I went out of my house into the street in a spontaneous and clear way, and then Iwalked through a deserted street. I stopped at the next street corner. For a fewmoments I thought about the place where I should go. I decided to go to Europe.

It is obvious that I travelled over the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Floating marvellouslyin the luminous atmosphere, I felt myself filled with a type of happiness which humanbeings cannot conceive, and finally I arrived at the city of Paris.

Walking, or rather floating, in that luminous atmosphere, I instinctively felt the need toenter a house.

I do not regret having entered that house because in it I met an Initiate who I hadknown in ancient reincarnations.

He too was outside his body. I could observe that his body lay asleep in his bed. I saw awoman and two children also sleeping next to him. I understood that they were his wifeand children.

I affectionately greeted my friend and the soul of his wife, who was also outside herbody. It is not irrelevant to say that, since the children were also asleep, their souls wereoutside their bodies too.

Those infantile souls began to get frightened by my unusual presence. I thenunderstood that I had to go away in order to prevent those frightened souls returningto their respective bodies. It is unquestionable that, had this happened, the childrenwould have cried in their beds and their crying would have woken my friend and hiswife, and our dialogue would have come to an end, since both the soul of my friend andhis wife's would have had no choice but to go back into their respective bodies of fleshand blood.

I understood all this in thousandths of a second and, in order to precisely avoid thisproblem, I suggested to my friend that he left the house and went for a walk with methrough the streets of Paris. My joy was big when he accepted my suggestion.

We walked together through the outskirts of that great city. I even advised him toreturn to the Path of the Light. Finally, I suggested to him that he visited a marvellousTemple in Germany. My friend declined my invitation, telling me that he could not dothat because he had to focus his attention on the problems of practical life, since he hada wife and children, etc. I then said goodbye to that Initiate and, floating in the

atmosphere, I went over a big wall, and next I walked through a winding road full ofbends, until I arrived at a marvellous Temple.

I saw many souls of different nationalities standing next to the Temple. They werepeople who, during the sleeping hours, left their dense bodies to come here.

All those people, gathered in different groups, were talking to each other about thecosmos, about the laws, about reincarnation and karma, about the mysteries of life anddeath, etc.

I searched, among those groups, for a friend of mine who was very good at astralprojection, but I could not find him.

Then I approached the threshold of the Temple, and saw an exquisite garden withdelightful flowers that exhaled an intoxicating perfume. A splendid Temple, illuminatedby the radiance of the stars, was silhouetted against the back of the garden. I intendedto go in, but the Guardian intervened and said to me, 'This is the Temple of Wisdom. Goback. It is not the right time yet'.

Obeying his orders, I went back to some distance without moving too far from thethreshold. Then I looked at myself. I observed my spiritual hands and feet, and evengave myself the luxury of comparing them with the hands and feet of my body of fleshand blood which I had left sleeping in my bed in Latin America, in the sacred land of theAztecs.

It is evident that all these comparisons instantaneously resulted in my returning to mymaterial physical vehicle, which was deeply asleep in my bed. Then I woke up with astart, saying to myself, 'I have been to the Temple of Wisdom. What a joy. What a bliss'.

Still today, I cannot forget that exceedingly immaculate white light that was shining inthat Temple. Certainly, that light did not seem to come from any physical lamp. It camefrom all over the place, and it did not cast any kind of shadow.

9. Can you travel anywhere, even if you do not know the place?

A. I went to that divine temple, and yet I did not know it. A 'higher telepathic sense'took me there. I could rather tell you that my own Spirit guided me.

10. When you astral project at will, can you remember where you have been to themoment you wake up?

A. It is clear that if you do not remember, it is because you have not astral projected atwill. Since it seems to me impossible that a person who astral projects at will, wholeaves his body consciously, intentionally, is unable to remember what he saw outsidehis body. For example, when you leave your house to go to the office and then youcome back from the office to your house, do you remember what you saw in the office, the work you did, and the instructions of your boss?

11. Yes, when I come back home I remember everything I did in the office.

A. Well, the same happens with astral projection. Remember that your physical body isa house of flesh and blood. If you leave that house at will, you will see many things, andif you come back to it voluntarily, it is also obvious that you will remember everythingyou saw and heard...

RECOMMENDED PRACTICE

Every person has a key note characterizing him, and this key note is that of the Ray towhich he belongs. This key note is continuously resounding throughout our organism, and if the student wants to astral project straightforwardly, all he has to do is hear, inthe silence of the night, this key note, which seems to come from the cellules of thecerebellum, and then he has to make it resound more intensely with the strength ofhis will. When the sound takes over all his brain, he will gently get up from his bed, andon trying to walk he will notice that he weights less, and the reason for this is that hehas got up in his astral body and his physical body remains in the bed. Naturally, themoment that has to be used for this experiment is the state of transition between thewaking state and sleep. This is the marvellous moment for astral projection.

We repeat: The 'subtle voice' incessantlyresounds in the human brain, within its cellules. This 'voice' is a sharp, hissing sound. This is the'cricket's chirp', the 'serpent's hiss', the 'Anahatsound' (the Voice of Brahma). The Eastern sagessay that it has ten tonalities, which the studentmust learn to hear. The important thing is thatthe student's mind absorbs itself into that sound, like a bee into the nectar of flowers.

Whoever wishes to hear the 'Anahat sound' mustempty his mind and keep it quiet, not quietened. We repeat: quiet. Whoever tries to and sets outto hear that mystic sound has to keep his mindsilent, not silenced. We repeat, silent. We needto distinguish between a mind that is quiet, because it has understood that it is pointless tothink, and a mind that is artificially quietened.

We need to differentiate between a mind that is in a state of natural silence and a mindthat has been silenced by force, violently.

When the mind is quiet, in deep silence, the student can indeed hear the cricket's sound:a subtle, sharp and piercing sound. Moreover, if the Soul is absorbed into this mysticsound, then the 'doors of mystery' open for the student. So then, in those moments,

the student can get up from his bed, instinctively, leave his bedroom and go to theTemples of the White Lodge, or anywhere in the Universe.

The student can also fall asleep vocalizing the letter S very gently, like a sweet andcalm hiss, like this: Sssssssssssssssssssss. By vocalizing this letter, the student willacquire the ability to make the subtle voice, the Anahat sound, resound in his brain atwill. This will allow him to astral project consciously.

In coming Units we will give you new more keys for conscious astral projection. However, for those keys to really work out, it is always necessary that the studentworks on his consciousness during the day. Astral projection is a question of level ofconsciousness. That is why we recommend that you practise the S.O.P. Keycontinuously. The act of will to remain conscious during the day will help you to awakenyour consciousness.

We will finish this Unit with a few words of Master Samael, in which he throws light onthe daily work which we must carry out on our consciousness.

Discernment

During the sleeping hours, our Soul (the psyche) is engaged in the same activities as in theday. Outside their physical bodies, shopkeepers buy and sell in their shops, withoutrealizing that they are outside their bodies. During the sleeping hours, we see the Souls(the psyches) of dressmakers, mechanics, pedlars, etc., engaged in the same activities as inthe day.

Those Souls are asleep, and they are convinced that they are in the body of flesh andblood, and when someone tells them that they are outside their bodies, if only they justawakened, then they could go anywhere in the world in a few instants. The importantthing is to know the key, the secret, so that you can realize that you are outside yourphysical body. That is the key of Discernment.

During the day we must ask ourselves this question: Am I in my physical body or outsideit? Then take a little jump with the intention of floating in the surrounding environment, and if you float, it is because you are outside your body. Then, once you are suspended inthe air, go where your heart takes you.

Let us suppose that you are walking in the street and you come across a friend of yourswho you have not seen for a long time. Then, ask yourself the question: Am I in my bodyor outside it? You will have to ask yourself this question during the day in the presence ofany curious thing: a commotion, a rare object, the encounter with a dead person, theencounter with a distant friend; in short, in the presence of any apparently insignificantincident. This is the key of discernment. This key must be practised during the day, atevery step, at every instant, so that it becomes well engraved in our mind and acts duringthe sleeping time.

Everything that we do during the day, we also do it when we are asleep, and if you take todoing this practice during the day, you will eventually do it in the night during the sleepinghours, when your Soul (psyche) is outside your body. Then, as you ask yourself thisquestion, you will take the little jump as you have done it during the day.

What is important is that the Soul (psyche) realizes that it is outside the body, so that youcan visit any distant place. Outside our physical body we can invoke the Masters, and theywill come to our call to teach us wisdom…
