Salford Summary
• Improved bus links to Salford Quays and Trafford Park and across the City of Salford
• Up to 29 Yellow School Buses by 2018
• Metrolink expansion from Eccles, Salford Quays/ Media City
• Increased frequency and capacity of train services
• 5 stations across the City will be upgraded including major upgrades of Salford Crescent and Salford Central to create new interchanges providing better connections and a safer environment
• New cycle routes
Minimum Frequencies• at least every 7/8 minutes (daytime) 20 minutes (evenings & Sundays) on
principal corridors to the regional centre• at least every 20 minutes (daytime) 30 minutes (evenings & Sundays) on
principal corridors into main district centres such as Eccles, Swinton and Walkden
First and last buses• first buses to arrive in the regional centre by 6.00 am• first buses to arrive in main district centres by 6.30 am• last bus to leave the regional centre after 11.30 pm• last bus to leave main district centres after 11.00 pm
Access to the network• aim to maximise the number of people within a 5 minute walk from their home
to a regular all day service to their most appropriate district centre, e.g. Eccles, Walkden, Little Hulton, Worsley, Irlam & Cadishead, Swinton or Pendleton
Future Bus Network Standards
• Simplifying the network
• Minimising the need to change buses
• Providing cross-city services across the regional centre
• Improvements to orbital routes and inter-town routes
• Bus feeder services to rail and Metrolink stations
• Addressing reliability
• Introducing limited stop services
• Providing night services on core routes
Design Principles
Network improvements will be delivered through a partnership agreement with the bus operators
• The benefits offered through the TIF package provide the incentive for bus operators to participate in the Partnership on a voluntary basis
The Partnership Agreements:• recognise the leading role for GMPTE in developing an integrated
network and a performance framework
• will set standards on vehicle specification, punctuality, reliability and performance monitoring
• will manage the change process and limit service changes
• will minimise over capacity and head-to-head competition
• commit to simplified fares and integrated ticketing and govern future fare and service changes
Partnership Working
• Priority issues have been identified and begun to be addressed in the network design.
• These include improving
- access to employment areas, eg Salford Quays and Trafford Park, for the citizens of Salford.
- access to existing and future healthcare services – e.g. Salford Royal Hospital & LIFT centres
- access to leisure facilities – e.g. Salford Quays
- access to education facilities
-frequencies on main radial ‘corridors’ to the regional centre
- new bus routes to create direct links to other parts of Greater Manchester
Not an exhaustive assessment and additional local priorities for accessibility improvement will become apparent
