P&C Christmas Raffle
This year the P&C are asking for donations of non-perishable, in date goods that are not used or pre-loved, but rather brand new, to make baskets/hampers for a big raffle for our school and the wider community. Within the next 2-3 weeks, the P&C will send home a
small book of raffle tickets to every family to sell. Tickets will also be sold at Presentation Night on Tuesday 10th December at the RSL. The raffle will be drawn at the end of Presentation Night. Please bring non-perishable items to the office and place them in the Christmas trolley. Examples of items may include:
✓ Cans of food or drink
✓ Christmas items – bon-bons, puddings,
decorations etc.
✓ Toiletries, e.g. shampoo, conditioner, hair
items, soaps
✓ Packets of food

Year 6 PtoH Transition Program continues tomorrow After a great start to the PtoH Transition program a fortnight ago, Year 6 students are preparing themselves for the second session tomorrow. Once again, students will leave school
at 1.00pm to head up to Gloucester High School for their lessons. Students will depart directly from the high school at 3.15pm in the way that was outlined on their permission note. Should there be any changes, please send a note in with your child. Mr Maggs and Miss Goodwin will be accompanying the students this week. This is a great initiative held every year between our school and Gloucester High School, aimed at working closely together to provide a seamless and positive transition into secondary schooling for your child. Puberty Clues Program completed Students completed (or survived!) their three-session ‘Puberty Clues’ program yesterday, with the final session delivered by Mrs Debbie Faull. I really must commend the students for the mature way they held themselves during the lessons, asking excellent questions and deciphering together the finer points of growing up through this tricky developmental phase. I would like to thank both Mrs Moore and Mrs Faull for their organisation and delivery of the program. Thank you so much, ladies! Year 6 to join our Gloucester community for Remembrance Day
Next Monday, 11 November, marks the anniversary of the armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Each year on this day Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11.00am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.
Year 6 students and some Stage 3 staff will be attending the event. This is an important event commemorating those who have sacrificed so much for the protection of the freedom and way of life we enjoy in Australia today. As a mark of respect, all students must be in full summer school uniform including polished black shoes.
Dressing appropriately for such events teaches our students to show respect for such an occasion. Stage 3 homework resumes this week A big thank you to all students for their hard work in preparing speeches for our school public speaking competition. We experienced some outstanding speeches and are eagerly looking forward to the finals next week. I’d also like to give a special thanks to parents and carers for their patience, support and guidance during this time. We all recognise that this can add a little extra stress to the students (and the household!), however, the opportunity to learn the art of delivering a speech really does provide them with valuable experiences in presenting formally in front of a captive audience, rather than just the informal discussions had in the classroom. Normal homework resumed this week.
Parents and Carers of Year 5 Students – **URGENT** Applications for Selective High School placement in 2021 close next Monday 11 November. Selective high schools cater for highly achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be without classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and/or talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and/or talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level. Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2021, you must apply online at: education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opoortunity-classes/year-7 Prior to applying, it is worthwhile speaking to your child’s class teacher or myself regarding the student’s aptitude for such classes and the many other considerations involved in selective high school placement. Please contact me this week for further information and a brochure on how to apply.
