On Tuesday, May 23 at 1:30 p.m., students, faculty and staff across the 217 Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools united to
pray the “Prayer of St. Francis” for a peaceful summer. This is the second year the Archdiocese has led a unified prayer for
peace across its Catholic schools. Archdiocese employees at Quigley and Meyer Pastoral Centers will also join in prayer in
support of the effort.
“Pope Francis has told us that we should not only avoid violence but be builders of peace. I am encouraged by this effort to call on all students to work and pray for peace this summer,” said Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago. “We cannot turn a blind eye to what is happening in our communi es. We need unity, prayer and ac on in order to effect change.”
“We believe having 76,000 students, 7,500 school staff members and more than 500 Archdiocesan Central Office employees
praying together makes a strong statement that our schools and our Archdiocese foster peace and understanding,” said Dr.
Rigg. “Violence is a tragedy that impacts many families in our region. Our Catholic schools are centers of posi ve
transforma on that provide children with a founda on of faith, respect, love and understanding.”
Throughout the summer the Archdiocese’s 217 Catholic Schools will display banners that say “We are Praying for Peaceful
Summer. Join Us.” in the hope of further uni ng their communi es in peace

Pomysł na nabożeństwa czerwcowe ma swój początek w
XIX w. Autorką pomysłu na uwielbienie Serca Jezusowego w Najświętszym Sakramencie była Aniela de Sainte-Croix.
Będąc jeszcze w nowicjacie doszła do wniosku, że skoro maj jest poświęcony Matce Bożej, to czerwiec należy ofiarować
Sercu Jezusowemu. Podzieliła się tym spostrzeżeniem z wychowawczynią i
koleżankami. Przychylnie odniosła się do niej przełożona klasztoru, a następnie biskup paryski. Czerwiec okazał się idealnym miesiącem na nabożeństwa gdyż właśnie wtedy przypada Uroczystość Serca Pana Jezusa. W Polsce po raz pierwszy nabożeństwa czerwcowe zaczęto odmawiać w 1857r. Natomiast dopiero po 16 latach w 1873r Pius IX
zatwierdził nabożeństwo jako oficjalną modlitwę Kościoła. Nabożeństwo czerwcowe polega na uwielbieniu i
oddawaniu czci Najświętszemu Sercu Jezusowemu ukrytemu w Najświętszym Sakramencie. Następnie zostaje
czytana lub śpiewana litania do Najświętszego Serca Jezusowego. Po litanii zostaje odczytany Akt poświęcenia
rodzaju ludzkiego Sercu Jezusowemu, modlitwa oraz błogosławieństwo Najświętszym Sakramentem.

Panie Jezu Chryste, Ty przez swoje Boskie Serce, bogate w miłosierdzie, wylałeś
na cały świat miłość swego Ojca jako uświęcający żar Ducha Przenajświętszego.
Racz przyjąć moje modlitwy, prace, radości i cierpienia i złącz je dzisiaj ze swą Ofiarą Krzyża, obecną w tajemnicy
Eucharys i dla zbawienia świata.

While my wife and I have seen all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies so far, I’m not sure we’ll see the latest installment, Dead Men Tell No Tales. Why? Because the Chicago Tribune gave it a one-star review. One star. Life is short, and I don’t have me for one-star movies. Based on the review, the head pirate ghost, played by Javier Bardem, is out to get revenge on the Johnny Depp character, Jack Sparrow. Here we go again. The Trib gave the film a low ra ng for poor plot, poor ac ng, poor pre y much everything, but good special effects. The one-star review is unfortunate, because I’ve enjoyed the franchise. I liked the first entry the best. We saw it in Denver on a family vaca on years ago. As I write this, Gail and I are headed north to see our son Paul and his wife Annie in upper Wisconsin, and we’d hoped to take them to see the film somewhere, then find a supper club for dinner. Maybe not now. The movie, I mean. The supper club’s s ll a hopeful go. But back to the ghosts. In the Pirates movies, the pirate ghosts are up to no good. Revenge, mostly. But today we celebrate a ghost of a different color and intent. Pentecost, a celebra on of the Holy Spirit, aka Ghost. I grew up with the Holy Ghost, and while I think this Third Person gets the short shri in the whole trinity conversa on--which con nues next week in earnest--I remain a fan. A huge fan, actually. Seems the Ghost has morphed into the Spirit over the years, though. Per a Catholic website I stumbled upon not long ago, “Some of this came about because words don’t always
hold their meanings. In the days of Shakespeare or King James, ‘ghost’ meant the living essence of a deceased person…As language evolved, people started saying ‘ghost’ when speaking of the vision of a dead person while ‘spirit’ became the standard term for life or living essence, o en also for ‘soul.’ With slight excep ons, ‘ghost’ and ‘spirit’ changed places over some 300 years.” But “a rose by any other name…” you know? There’s an intangible something flowing through us. That’s the Ghost: the spark, the life, the essence in each of us that makes us…the each of us. I love this celebra on of Spirit, especially today’s first reading. “And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind.” Go Ghost! “Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each of them.” Go, Ghost! “They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, ‘Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his na ve language?’” Go, Ghost! To paraphrase the Lion, “I do, I do, I do believe in ghosts!” Maybe not the up-to-no-good ghosts in the movie franchise, but for sure the life-giving Ghost we toast today. “There are different kinds of spiritual gi s, but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God…To each individual the manifesta on of the Spirit is given for some benefit.” The pirate ghosts got one star, but we’ve got a four-star entry, and then some. Go, go, go, Ghost!

BAPTISM:
For Children: a pre-Baptism class is required for Baptism of the first child. Classes are held in English on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30PM in the Church, and in Polish on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:30PM in the Church. Following registration, the sacrament of Baptism is celebrated in English on the second Saturday each month at 6:00PM and on the fourth Sunday of the month at the 12:30PM Mass. The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated in Polish on the first Saturday of the month at 6:00PM and on the third Sunday of the month at the 3:00PM Mass. Please call the rectory to register at 773/622-5900. For Adults: Classes are taught through the Rite of Chr istian Initi-ation Program (RCIA) on Sunday mornings at 10:00AM.
