That is how long modern humans have been living on this planet, and each and every single one of those years globalization has grown stronger and stronger. It is the part of human nature that makes us want to explore and connect with other people; in essence, it is the driving force that runs our economy as well as the rest of our society. Therefore, Mr. Prime Minister, globalization is, overall, good not only for Jamaica, but the rest of the world because it allows our society to thrive in ways such as allowing more products to be on the market, creating new jobs, and uniting the world. As you may know, the world is a crowded place. With over seven billion people, many will have to live in places that cannot fully cultivate the amount of provisions needed to sustain a livable condition. With globalization, high-yielding countries may trade their excess produce for resources that the other countries are rich in. Without globalization, Jamaica wouldnt have much access to things like machinery, transportation, or even fossil fuels, all of which are key to have in a modern civilization.Wherever globalization goes, job opportunities follow. When multinational corporations open overseas, they tend to employ the citizens of the country they are in, thus giving many jobs. Globalization also leads to an increase of tourism, which may I remind you, is a major industry of Jamaica. Without globalization there would be significantly fewer tourists, and as a result, the economy of Jamaica would suffer. It is also key to note that globalization also helps unite the world as well. The technology we have nowadays allows individuals peer into a different culture and see life through the eyes of another. It also enables us to have the tools we need to bridge cultural gaps that would otherwise prove troublesome. When we are able to better understand one another we can work together better at solving the worlds problems, so that we can we can have a better future for all.There are some who say that one downside to globalization is that it causes an unequal distribution of wealth, wherein a select few gain the lions share, while a vast majority receive next to nothing, like in Jamaica were many citizens will only make up to 30 dollars a week. However, I have to disagree that globalization is the root of the problem. Since the beginning of time there have always been a minority of people that have held much of the wealth. It is human nature to try to grab as many resources as they possibly can. It is an evolutionary trait among a great number of species to do this, so as to improve their chance of survival. Until we evolve past this notion, it is simply going to continue in the same way as it always had.As I have stated thoroughly, globalization is, overall, a good thing. It helps by allowing better products to be on the market, creating new jobs, and by uniting the world. Without globalization we would not be living the same way we do now; we would have less advanced technology, weaker life expectancy, and would know nothing of our world. In essence globalization makes us who we are.
