Team member rolesTeam member roles

• Each team member has separate roles within the team and across the global task force

• Members must collaborate with team members and task force members

• Since you all have different skills and expertise, it is important that each of you plays a part in the taskforce project

• Your team members need to know who is in charge of each aspect of the project

Page 9: Global Taskforce Innovation Project Initial Task Force Meeting

Team goal-settingTeam goal-setting

• Teams and the task force as a whole need to agree on goals

• Goals should be:o Specifico Challengingo Realistic

• Can be assigned to individual members or teams based on their functional expertise

Page 10: Global Taskforce Innovation Project Initial Task Force Meeting

Coordinating as a taskforceCoordinating as a taskforce

• You need to decide how to direct and coordinate activities and assign tasks to manage workflow

• For example:o Some tasks best suited for individual work other

benefit from involvement of multiple team or global task force members

• Task responsibilities and expectations should be CLARIFIED

• Be accountable to your team and task force members. o Complete your tasks on time!

Page 11: Global Taskforce Innovation Project Initial Task Force Meeting

Monitoring your teamMonitoring your team

• Teams need to decide how to monitor/evaluate each other's work

• Use WebEx to establish a shared information source

• Prevents problems with miscommunication and provides opportunity for early feedback

• If you have questions about work one of your team or task force members has done, ask them!  You may be coming from a different perspective and have a suggestion they had not considered.

Double-checking information is received Double-checking information is received and understoodand understood

• It is important that you double check information is received and understood

• One good way to do this:o confirm via email or other communication that

team members have received important documents or task assignments

Page 13: Global Taskforce Innovation Project Initial Task Force Meeting

Information SharingInformation Sharing

• Getting off on the right foot with your team and global task force communication is important to task force success.

• In general, you will need to be sharing information more frequently as you get closer to deadlines.

Page 14: Global Taskforce Innovation Project Initial Task Force Meeting

Information Sharing GuidelinesInformation Sharing Guidelines

• When sharing information with your team or task force you should: o Avoid jargon o Choose the right technology for your

communication: (e.g. chats for quick information, shared workspace on Web Ex for interactive tasks)

o Make sure key information goes to all members of the team or global task force

o Make sure information gets sent in a timely manner relative to your team and global task force goals

o Respond fully to all requests for information in a timely manner

o Information Sharing guidelines chart up on WebEx

The Urgent Sustainability Problem: The Urgent Sustainability Problem: Atlantic Ocean Fisheries Atlantic Ocean Fisheries

• By the year 2050 the Atlantic Fisheries are expected to completely collapse

• Your 4-team task force must evaluate and recommend an effective and innovative strategy to addressing this issue

• Problem requires intense collaboration and innovation, and such innovation

• You will have 2 opportunities to submit a plan, and your plan will be evaluated by a panel of experts in terms of how effective and innovative it is as compared to the plans of other task forces.

• Innovating early will place your team at an advantage over other teams who must then catch up to your thinking and develop an idea based on your idea that is better

Page 16: Global Taskforce Innovation Project Initial Task Force Meeting

What can we do? What can we do?

• The good news is that it is not too late to reverse the damage to Atlantic fish stocks.

• Policy change can make a difference.• Behavior change can make a difference.

Goal 1a Deliverable Information Identify attitude change strategies to target generic environmental behaviors Using the Theory of Planned Behavior, select and discuss 5-10 attitude change strategies relating to (1) attitudes toward environmental behaviors and (2) subjective norms about environmental behaviors

◦ Rationale should include evidence of research and consideration.

◦ Make a compelling case as to why the theories your team selected will change attitudes toward generic environmental behaviors.

Approx. 5-8pgs (double spaced) of content (APA style) Include a reference section Submit goal by following directions on subsequent slide.

◦ Rationale should include evidence of research and consideration.

◦ Make a compelling case as to why changing that attitude or behavior will have an impact on the Atlantic fisheries.

Goal 3 Deliverable Information• Analyze the value network and identify evolution factors• Create a visual representation of the value network• Create a document that answers the following questions:

• Who are the players in the value network that have a role from the fish in the sea to the end-consumer? What are their particular roles? How are they connected?

• Are there any aspects of the structure of the value network, or the business models of the players, that create barriers to changes potentially favorable to a more sustainable exploitation of fish-stock?

• What are the current trends that cause the value network to evolve? Can they potentially be influenced? At this stage, as a wrap-up of this info, what are your recommendations?

• Length should be no longer than 5 pages • Please include a reference section• Submit 1 document per team

Global Task Force Goal 4 – Draft Global Task Force Goal 4 – Draft SolutionSolutionGoal 4 Deliverable Information

•Integrate the information from the environmental science team, the social psychology teams and the strategic management team to determine (1) what behaviors should be focused, and (2) how to change these behaviors into a plan that is practically and economically feasible. •Consider how the business student’s value network can inform the final solution suggestion •Create a 2 page single spaced set of recommendations for solving the problem of declining fish stocks. This set of recommendations must be:

• Inclusive of knowledge from all component teams• Practical and realistic to implement – the final plan should be something that is

feasible from an economic standpoint, considering the information from Goals 1-3.

•Due on November 4th at 5:00pm EST

Goal 4 Deliverable Information

After your global task force submits your draft solution in Goal 4, it will be evaluated by a panel of subject matter experts who will rate in on the following dimensions:

Utility • Quality ideas that are practical and cost effective in both the short

and long term. • Will have immediate but lasting impact on the Atlantic Ocean.

Novelty• Provides a new and unique perspective on improving fisheries,

different from those already in place, or those which other teams came up with.

Comprehensiveness • Details the specific consumer and corporate behaviors that are

necessary to change• Details how to change these behaviors in a manner that is

scientifically sound, accurately reflects knowledge in all three disciplines, and is logicallyconsistent and complete.

Goal 5 Deliverable InformationThe subject matter experts will decide on the best plan based on the dimensions in the previous slide.

You will then have an opportunity to improve and submit a revised plan. Use this time to take what is in the market and resubmit a plan based on this new market knowledge.
