1.1 Operating System - Browser

HSBCnet is designed to work with the following browser versions/operating systems.

Operating System Browser

Windows 98/98SE/ME IE 5.5 and above

Windows NT 4.0 (SP6) IE 5.5 and above

Windows 2000 Pro (SP2 and above) IE 5.5 and above

Windows XP (SP1 and above) IE 6 and above

Further information for installing smart card readers may be found in the ‘smart card

installation guide’ available on the CD that will be sent with your card reader, or your

additional information can be found on www.hsbcnet.com. Click on Getting Started Guide

and navigate to smart card installation.

All browser versions must be protected by 128-bit encryption. To check the level of security

being used, look for a security padlock at the bottom right of your browser – this will

establish the level of security being used.

Fig 1.1

The best way to check if you have 128-bit encryption in Internet Explorer is to click on Help

in the toolbar, then About Internet Explorer and check that the cipher strength is 128-bit.

l Download the latest browser from the Microsoft Web site

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie

l Certain versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer may require additional patches, which

are available from http:.//www.microsoft.com/technet/security/default.mspx
