Why We Need Global Human Resources Development
• Stagnation of Japan’s market and expansion of emerging markets
• Need for HR Adapting to local markets when Japanese companies go abroad
• Competitiveness of global Japanese industry is extremely important, considering that Japan currently depends heavily on oil and food imports
• Innovation and economic growth, contribute to world prosperity
• Leadership in international community • Serve National interests, in international
standardization

Announced by Ministry of Education in Japan (MEXT)
Aim of the project→ Promote the “globalization” of Japanese higher education by assisting a select number of universities through a prioritized allocation of grants.
In 2009, 13 universities have been selected by MEXT as Global 30 Project core institutions.

Meiji University’s Globalization Strategy → Meiji University established our own globalization strategy entitled the “Global Common Project (GCP)” which features numerous unique schemes.
→ The aim of the GCP is to establish an “Intellectual Global Common”, where people from all over the world can gather to advance research and education.

Japan-Canada Academic Students Forum
• Japan’s consortium (11 universities), Canada’s consortium (8 universities) – to create global leaders
• Students discuss global issues in English, i.e. climate change, biodiversity, food security, energy sustainability. Each groups make presentation.
• Corporations including JAPEX/JACOS,Sumitomo give lectures to students with the theme of oil-
sand, or international trade• Research institutions including Biota research gave
lectures to the students

Short -Term Internship in Thailand
• Short-term exchange program between Meiji University and SenaKalin Willot University in Bangkok.
• Meiji students visit Bangkok to study the social system in Thailand and exchange views with students of SKW for 3 weeks. Meiji’s alumni association in Thailand supports our students by supplying short-term internships at Japanese companies, including at NTT communications , JAL, or electronic industries.

MEIJI-UTM (Malaysia) Double Degree Program
• UTM students come to Tokyo to attend lectures and participate in short-term internships at Japanese companies in Tokyo.
• Conversely, Meiji students from the Graduate School of Business Administration go to UTM’s Kuala Lumpur campus to study and to visit Japanese companies in KL. This is done with the help of the alumni association in KL.
Joint program in agricultural training education
• Subsidiary of Asahi beer company in China and Meiji University cooperate to make agricultural training program.
• Students can learn food system in china, food security , recycle oriented farm, and advanced technology of agriculture.
・ Contribute to leadership training in agriculture in both
countries.

• Two academic courses sponsored by business enterprises (joint programs between Meiji and business community)
1) “Study Abroad and Career” (for freshman)2) “Global Career Design” (for 3rd and 4th students)
• Various guest speakers with global experience in the field of finance, business, public administrations.
• Diversification of teachers background

Desired Collaboration with HEI and Business Community
• Academic programs of outbound students with the internship program at the local markets.
• Business community can give knowledge gained during professional practice to the students as guest lectures.
• Private companies in Japan should reconsider their own recruiting system and make their personal system more flexible, including allowing for mid-career employment.
