GFCS: ObjectivesGFCS: Objectives
• Provide a cooperative framework in which all nations, International organizations, scientists and sectors will work together to meet the needs of users;
• Enable users to benefit from improved climate information and prediction;
• Mobilize climate science globally to advance the skills of seasonal-to-interannual and multi-decadal climate predictions to generate and provide future climate information on an operational basis;
• Foster principles and mechanisms for sharing new advances in science and information through a cooperative global infrastructure.

WMO Regional Climate Centres4.2.20 to 4.2.22
• Procedures for establishment of RCCs have been approved by EC LXI and form part of GDPFS Manual Vol 1
• Resolution 4.2/1 on Establishment of Regional Climate Centres
Global Framework for Climate Services
15
WMO Regional Climate Centres4.2.20 to 4.2.22
• RCCs are centers of excellence that create regional climate products including LRF that support regional and national climate activities
• RCCs fulfil all the required functions for the entire region or a sub-region to be defined by RA
• NMHSs are the primary clients of RCCs
• There can be more than one RCC in a Region
• There are mandatory and recommended functions required of RCCs to enable them be recognised as WMO RCCs
• A group of centres that collectively fulfill all the required functions of an RCC: WMO RCC-Network
