Introduction lesson

Global English Instant Lesson WorksheetsAt Global English we have a lot of experience in teaching English to students of all backgrounds. So we have put our heads together and come up with some great Print and Teach lesson worksheets that you can use straightaway in your classroom.

We hope that they provide a really good resource for you as you get started in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

The worksheets have been divided up into different themes: general English, speaking practice, grammar and vocabulary development lessons. There is also one that looks at pronunciation, and we have developed some worksheets which would be very useful if you are teaching within a business English context.

We have also provided you with a suggested level for each worksheet. The levels start at Elementary and we have categorised them as follows:

Elementary (Elem) CEF A1 Pre-intermediate (pre-int) CEF A2 Intermediate (Int) CEF B1 Upper-intermediate (U-Int) CEF B2 Advanced (Adv) CEF C1We have suggested a level only for guidance - some of the material could easily be adapted across two or more levels. Note that the Common European Framework (CEF) levels are also listed above for ease of reference. On some of the pages you will see different colour boxes. These contain useful target language for the lesson. These are the words that students should be able to use at the end of the class. The Print and Teach lesson worksheets can be used in a 1:1 setting where you are teaching an individual student, or they can be used with a class. All the worksheets are adaptable for different lesson lengths and most have a homework aspect, where students are encouraged to build on what they have learned in each lesson.

On the following page youll find a handy index of different worksheets that you can use for your lessons. Each worksheet is on a separate page, just jump to that page and print then you can take the lesson straight into your class! At the end you will find a section on some of our favourite tried and tested website worksheets. These cover the areas of grammar, reading and listening, exam practice and job interviews.

Practise these phrases:

E. Language review 3 Stating your position

Now they are ready to start business, its important that both sides state their positions. Karina starts by making an opening statement. Robert responds with his position:

Karina: Well, shall we get down to business? To start with, I hope youll be impressed by what our business can offer you and that we will be able to build a good working relationship.

Robert: Our first priority is to find out more about your company and what you can offer. As far as we are concerned it is important to ask for quotes from a range of suppliers before making any decision.

Your turn. Practise making an opening statement and responding stating your position with your teacher:

F.Role-play the start of a negotiation with your teacher. You take the lead. Include:

Small talk Signalling that its time to talk business Your opening statement (Your teacher states their position)

Now reverse roles. Let your teacher take the lead.
