The White River National Forest welcomes your comments on its proposal to update motorized recreation opportunities in the vicinity of National Forest System Road (NFSR) 514, also known as Red Table Road. The purpose of this proposal is to update and create new motorized recreation opportunities, address user created routes, and improve wetland conditions in the vicinity of Red Table Mountain. Specifically, the action proposed by this project consists of four elements. 1) Construct an approximately 80’ x 100’ parking area, near the beginning of the Red Table Road, NFSR 514 on the north side of County Road 10, near Cottonwood Pass; 2) Reconstruct approximately 10 miles of motorized trail at the “Green Gate Trail,” and the Milepost 1 Trail, reroute approximately 1.5 miles of trail on the current “Green Gate” alignment, to create a more sustainable trail system; 3) Restore a wetland impacted by the existing parking area at the junction of NFSR 514 and County Road 10 and; 4) Rehabilitate and closure of approximately 20 miles of user created motorized trail. A collaborative planning effort to move the proposed action forward has been ongoing for the last three years. Partners and stakeholders include: Eagle County government, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Stay the Trail Colorado, Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers, Rocky Mountain Sport Riders, and Colorado Backcountry Trail Riders Association.
