Hormones an Overview• The body’s main system for
internal chemical regulation is the endocrine system.
• A hormone is a regulatory chemical that travels from its production site through the blood to affect other sites in the body.
• Vertebrates make over 50 different hormones.
• Hormones are made and secreted mainly by organs called endocrine glands.
• Hormones travel in the blood to target cells, which respond to the hormones.
• Hormones govern our metabolic rate, growth, maturation, and reproduction.
