This course is for anyone who wishes to learn and/or improve drawing skills. These skills will be developed through the

application of basic elements and principles of drawing. Equipment needed: A3 Sketch Book, lead or coloured pencils or pens, kneadable eraser. The course focuses on drawing from life.

9ART02: Painting - All Media Type: Long Course

This is a self-motivated painting class with plenty of exchange of creative ideas. All types of media used. Odourless solvent must be used with oils. Due to limited space, canvases or boards are to be no bigger than 80 x 80 cm. Beginners are welcome to join our group of students who are at varying stages of development. Students supply their own gear.

steps behind? Art is a joy that can be learnt at any age. Come and join Fay who has many years teaching experience.

There will be a cost of $30 to be paid at the first class for the workbook.

9ART05: Painting - for Advanced Students Type: Long Course

9ART06: Painting - Any Medium Type: Long Course

You will be encouraged to explore a variety of media, techniques and subjects to develop self-confidence and discover

the artist in you. All levels of expertise are welcome. Students supply their own materials, i.e. paints, brushes, canvas/paper. A detailed list is available from tutors.

Participants must bring a size A3 visual diary.

9ART07: Painting - Oil and Acrylic Type: Long Course

Dates: 05/02/2019 - 19/11/2019 Frequency: Weekly Course, Tue 10:00 - 12:00

Location: Glenhuntly Art Room 1151 Glenhuntly Road Tutor: Ninelle Terlikar

In this friendly class, students paint in oil and acrylic under guidance. For health reasons we do not use mineral turpentine or varnishes in class. As a thinner for oil paints, only odourless "Artists Turpentine", available from art supply

stores, is permitted.

9ART08: Painting - Self Motivated Group Type: Long Course

This is a relaxed group who no longer require tuition, but still want to keep on painting and drawing just for satisfaction

and pleasure. There is no tutor, but advice is available if requested. It is also a good non-pressure place to start painting again after not having done so for some time. NOTE: ALL STUDENTS ARE ADVISED - NO OILS ALLOWED DUE TO

LACK OF VENTILATION. ALL OTHER MEDIUMS ALLOWED.

9ART09: Watercolour painting Type: Long Course

Dates: 05/02/2019 - 19/11/2019 Frequency: Fortnightly, Tue 13:30 - 15:00

Beginners painting in water colour should bring a watercolour pad, an A4 drawing pad, lead pencil, rubber, soft brushes and tubes of paint. Also, an old hand towel, an old plastic bowl or jar so you can add water to the colours, or wash the

brush to start a new colour. Just concentrate on the primary colours, red, blue and yellow and two earth colours, burnt and raw sienna.

9ART10: Pastel Drawing Type: Long Course

Dates: 08/02/2019 - 22/11/2019 Frequency: Weekly Course, Fri 9:30 - 11:30

Studio subjects with an emphasis upon verism using chalk pastels to capture 'en plein air' themes. Pencil sketches with pastel applications.

9ART11: Portraiture Type: Long Course

Dates: 06/02/2019 - 13/11/2019 Frequency: Fortnightly, Wed 13:15 - 15:30

In this course you will learn how to create portraits through developing observational and drawing skills using a variety of

materials, styles and techniques.

Materials required: an A3 Visual Diary and drawing tools, which will be discussed in class.

9ART12: Art Gallery Visits Type: Long Course

Dates: 07/02/2019 - 21/11/2019 Frequency: Monthly, Thu 11:30 - 16:30

Location: Varied Art Galleries Tutor: Lee Hirsh

A series of visits to various art galleries will be organised for Thursday afternoons once a month. A small cost would be involved. Appointments for guided talks of about 2 hours followed by a coffee break would be made. Please Note: Bus fees may apply. Meet outside Glenhuntly campus.

Dates for the visits will be notified.

9ART13: Art Appreciation Type: Long Course

9ART15: Learn to Draw and Paint Type: Long Course

Dates: 08/02/2019 - 22/11/2019 Frequency: Weekly Course, Fri 11:45 - 13:15

Location: Glenhuntly Art Room 1151 Glenhuntly Road Tutor: Annette Peck

Week 1. Bring your own flower or photo of a tree from your garden to draw. 2. Draw a portrait of yourself. Please bring a mirror. 3. Draw a seated figure from a model. 4. Draw your own hand. 5. Draw the person sitting opposite you. 6. Draw a

still life, e.g. bring a teapot and cup and/ or some fruit. 7. Draw a figure lying down. 8. Draw a figure walking. 9. Draw a figure standing. 10. Bring a photo of your pet or of a bird, e.g. a Kookaburra. At the end of each lesson we will review each person's work. The main aim is to learn, have fun and help one another.

Materials required: Range of HB pencils e.g. 4 H 6-8 B Faber-Castell and Faber-Castell Water Colour pencils. Sable

brush: small pointed and cheap. Portfolios: one X small A4 size, One large eg. 12x17. Pencil sharpener, Eraser, Notebook: cheap and lined. There may be some opportunities for outdoor sketching in Caulfield Park.

Computers

9COM01: Computers: Improve your basic skills Type: Short Course

Dates: 19/02/2019 - 26/03/2019 Frequency: Short Weekly Course, Tue 10:00 - 12:00

Location: Glenhuntly PC Room 1151 Glenhuntly Road Tutor: Jack Edelman

This course provides basic information on how to use a computer. We discuss the construction of the computer, the operating system, software (programs) and provide some information on common concepts and jargon. Instruction is

provided on how to operate the mouse and use the keyboard, so as to allow the students to open and close programs, set up a filing system, save and recover a file, find a previously saved file, access the internet, using the Google search engine, surfing the net, and the preparation, sending and receiving of email messages.

All members will be initially wait-listed. A skills assessment will be carried out by the tutor prior to acceptance into this

course. You will be contacted by the Computer Course coordinator to arrange your assessment.

9COM05: Computers: Advanced Type: Short Course

Dates: 09/04/2019 - 30/04/2019 Frequency: Short Weekly Course, Tue 10:00 - 12:00

This course provides basic information on how to use a computer, and is designed for students who have some experience in the use of a personal computer and a number of applications. We discuss the construction of the computer, the operating system, software (programs and applications) and provide some information on common

concepts and jargon. Instruction is provided on how to use the mouse and keyboard, so as to allow the students to open and close programs, set up a filing sytem and save and recover a file, find a previously saved file, access the internet,

using a search engine, surfing the net and the preparation, sending and receiving of email messages.

9COM07: MS Word - An Introduction Type: Short Course

Dates: 11/02/2019 - 18/03/2019 Frequency: Short Weekly Course, Mon 11:00 - 12:30

This course will provide you with guidelines on how to generate documents that are easy to read and understand. We will use the Microsoft 'Word' software. You will be shown how to: Generate typed documents using the keyboard and the

mouse, access Word software, type a note - give it a name - save it - retrieve it, type a letter, your stories, biography, change font type, size, bold, italics, underline etc. Introduce graphics, photos and enhance presentations.

9COM15: Excel: Tailored to your needs Type: Short Course

Do you want to be able to monitor your share portfolios? Manage home contents insurance? Control your water consumption? Manage home content insurance? Investment property? Collectables etc.? If yes, you can easily use the

power of spreadsheets without being an 'expert'. Attend this two week course and you will be shown and provided with spreadsheets you can use or customise.

Requirements: You will need basic computer skills to type, open and save files, copy and paste text.

9COM17: Excel: Your Very Own Type: Short Course

Dates: 22/02/2019 - 01/03/2019 Frequency: Short Weekly Course, Fri 11:00 - 12:30

The tutor will develop an Excel spreadsheet to suit your specific needs. This class will be of 2 weeks duration, depending on your needs. Should you wish to have a spreadsheet to manage financial matters; this can be designed so that

amounts and investment details are not disclosed. You will be provided at the end of the course with a spreadsheet for you to enter your details in the privacy of your home.

9COM20: Computer Help Desk Type: Long Course

Dates: 18/02/2019 - 18/11/2019 Frequency: Weekly Course, Mon 9:30 - 11:00

This course is for members who require some personal help with an aspect of using a computer. You can leave a message describing your problem, or your phone number, at reception for the Computer Co-ordinator. The Co-ordinator

will contact you and arrange a mutual agreeable time for a session with the one of our tutors to help solve your problem.

9COM21: iPad: Improve your skills Type: Short Course

Dates: 03/04/2019 - 24/04/2019 Frequency: Short Weekly Course, Wed 9:30 - 11:00

This is a short course for those who would like to revise and improve their iPad skills. The course content will largely be directed by student interests and may include:- settings, email, messages, attachments, camera and photos, wifi, the Cloud, Bluetooth, calendar, clock, maps, internet, music, podcasts, Apps, What's App, YouTube etc.

Please ensure that: - your iPad is fully charged - you have copies of your various passwords (especially your Apple

password) and email addresses etc.

9COM23: iPhone: Improve your skills Type: Short Course

During this short course you will learn ways of improving the quality of your photos and also techniques of manipulating photos on the computer through the use of a free Google program - Picasa 3. You will need to bring to class your camera, connecting cable and instruction manual, as well as pen and pencil to write notes. Also please ensure that the

batteries are fully charged.

9COM34: Creative Photography Made Easy Type: Short Course

Dates: 07/02/2019 - 28/02/2019 Frequency: Short Weekly Course, Thu 13:00 - 15:30

Goals of this course: 1. To learn that creativity can be learned and is not an inate gift. 2. To learn the secrets of why images work. 3. To empower you to take original and more interesting images The course is open to people of all

standards of photography and the visual arts. Please note - basic camera skills will not be covered. Mobile phones cameras are OK.

Don't know what to do with all those photos on your mobile telephone and computer - all out of sight and hard to find? Learn how to use "Snapfish" and you can make your own photobooks to showcase all those wonderful memories. The

program is free to download, easy to use and reasonably priced.

Requirements: Should be experienced in using a computer with good keyboard and mouse skills. BYO USB (Memory

stick) containing your digital images.

9CRA01: Card Making Type: Long Course

Dates: 11/02/2019 - 18/11/2019 Frequency: Fortnightly, Mon 11:00 - 13:00

Create your own greeting cards for all occasions and experience the joy of card making. Class requirements: ruler, small

sharp scissors, eraser, tweezers and pencil and pen (Biro).The scissors need to be small, sharp (eg embroidery) which have fine cutting blades, for fine detailed cutting. A cost of $5.00 per session will be charged to cover materials.

9CRA03: Textile Art Type: Long Course

Dates: 04/02/2019 - 18/11/2019 Frequency: Weekly Course, Mon 9:30 - 13:00

Location: Glenhuntly Art Room 1151 Glenhuntly Road Tutor: Jill Williams

Textile Art is an Arty Craft using various textiles and techniques. It can be something made for a purpose or become a

work of art on the wall. Materials used are many, anything that can be cut or sewn down or glued together to another surface. You must have your own sewing machine - preferably with a 'dropfeed' ability if not a 'cover plate'. Feet needed

- a straight zig zag foot and free motion/darning foot. The course will teach free motion machining, soldering iron(provided)on fabrics, heat stressing of painted fabrics, dyeing and printing of fabrics and embellishing.

9CRA05: Ceramics Type: Long Course

Dates: 06/02/2019 - 20/11/2019 Frequency: Weekly Course, Wed 9:15 - 11:45

This is a clay modelling class where participants initiate their own program of work. Problem solving and technical assistance is given by other experienced participants.

9CRA06: Clay Sculpture/A Type: Long Course

Location: Glenhuntly Pink Room 1151 Glenhuntly Rd Tutor: SELF-MOTIVATED

This is a clay modelling class where participants initiate their own program of work. The class is SELF MOTIVATED.

Problem solving and technical assistance is given by other experienced participants.

9CRA07: Knitting Circle Type: Long Course

Dates: 07/02/2019 - 21/11/2019 Frequency: Weekly Course, Thu 11:30 - 13:00

Location: Glenhuntly Purple Room 1151 Glenhuntly Rd Tutor: Diane Shonberg

Beginners: learn how to cast-on and knit a simple piece, eg. scarf. Intermediate: learn new techniques. BYO knitting needles and yarn.

This course will be in the Red Room at 1.30pm until 3.00pm from 6/6/2019.

9CRA10: Quilt-as-you-go Type: Long Course

Dates: 08/02/2019 - 22/11/2019 Frequency: Weekly Course, Fri 10:00 - 12:30

Location: Glenhuntly Green Room 1 1151 Glenhuntly Road Tutor: Judy Pobke

Learn to design a quilt using the Quilt-as-you-go method. Learn simple applique - needle turn, buttonhole. Good use of colour for effect. You will need to bring your own machine and be able to do a 1/4 inch seam.

The tutor, Renee will demonstrate how to make a bouquet, or floral arrangement in a vase or container of choice. The tutor will purchase fresh flowers for each lesson and will organise equipment required such as flower cutters, green stuff,

florists wire, tape and ribbon. Students' suggestions for floral presentations on special occasions will be the basis for some lessons. A fee of $50 for the purchase of flowers for the 4 classes is to be paid at enrolment.

I talk about their upbringing, their motivation and how they rose to prominence using video, sound and images. They are all famous (or infamous) people.

The cycling takes us to some beautiful places around Melbourne on separated bike paths (off the road bike paths).

Sometimes we have to cycle along bike lanes but these are only done on minor roads. Sometimes we take the train from Glenhuntly Railway Station to Flinders Street Station and start the cycling. Sometimes we go to Frankston and cycle back to Mordialloc Railway Station on a separated bike path.

During winter months July/August we operate 1st, 2nd and 4th Wednesdays only.

Fitness, fun and friendship. Exercise to Music focuses on a range of movements and physical activities developed to

address the fitness requirements for the over 50s and beyond. Importantly, participants are encouraged to work at their own pace. The class aims to work systematically through a series of routines that include cardio vascular exercise,

strength training using weights, balance/coordination practice, stretches to encourage flexibility and floor exercises. Classes conclude with a brief relaxation/meditation session.

The 24 Forms are the most popular style of Tai Chi in the world. They were put together in 1956 and are based on the Yang style. It would be good if you have done some Tai Chi before. Breathing and stretching exercises are also

We will cover specific systems and parts of living things, and explain them. In this course we will also look at evolution, energy systems, ecology, global warming and any other subject that comes up during the class.

Come along and be amazed by the knowledge you have secreted within your memory - plus learn trivia that you did not know. There will be competition but we hope it will be a friendly and social activity. Bring along a packed lunch to munch

on before the serious business begins and help yourself to the normal beverages. Home baked products are there for you to enjoy as well as nibbles. We are asking that you donate a gold coin so that we can supply these treats to munch on during our intense time of thinking. The main aim is to have fun.
