Welcome to Peace! – The purpose of our congregation is to worship God, who gives life through Word and Sacrament; to serve one another in love and fellowship; and to proclaim forgiveness and salvation to all through Jesus Christ alone.

Before Worship As you prepare to worship your Lord this evening, spend a few quiet minutes in prayer before the service. Review the lessons, the service notes, and pray this prayer:

Prayer of the Day Almighty God our Father, Your generous goodness comes to us new every day. By the work of Your Spirit lead us to acknowledge Your goodness, give thanks for Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience; through Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For the Children A Cry-Room is available if your little ones need a moment. It is the first room on the left as you walk into the church building. Sound and video are piped into the room to enable you to hear and see the service.

A Special Rite: Psalm Feast of Thanks

Prelude: “Let All Things Now Living”

Introduction to the Service Welcome to the feast! Scripture tells us, “Man does not live on bread alone, but

on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” Tomorrow we will feast on food for our bodies. This evening we will feast on the Word of God as we consider all of God’s gifts to us and respond with psalms of praise. May this spiritual food impart to you its very special nourishment as we give thanks to God!

Call to Worship

Psalm 100 P: Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.

C: Worship the LORD with gladness;

P: come before him with joyful songs.

C: Know that the LORD is God.

P: It is he who made us, and we are his;

C: we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

P: Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;

C: give thanks to him and praise his name.

P: For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;

C: his faithfulness continues through all generations.

God’s Word

The Lesson – Deuteronomy 8:10-18 10When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good

land he has given you. 11Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. 12Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, 13and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, 14then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 15He led you through the vast and dreadful desert, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock. 16He gave you manna to eat in the desert, something your fathers had never known, to humble and to test you so that in the end it might go well with you. 17You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." 18But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.

The Epistle – Philippians 4:4-13,19-20 4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be

evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

P: His mercy toward us is powerful.

The Holy Gospel – Luke 17:11-19 11Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between

Samaria and Galilee. 12As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!"

14When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed.

15One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him-- and he was a Samaritan.

17Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" 19Then he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well."

C: in the company of decent people and in the congregation.

P: The Lord’s deeds are spectacular.

C: They should be studied by all who enjoy them.

P: His work is glorious and majestic.

C: His righteousness continues forever.

P: He has made His miracles unforgettable.

C: The Lord is merciful and compassionate.

P: He provides food for those who fear Him.

C: He always remembers His promise.

P: He has sent salvation to His people. He has ordered that His promise should continue forever.

The Sermon – Job 1:21 “Bless the Name of the Lord!” 21[Job] said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised."

C: Praise His holy name, all that is in me.

P: Praise the Lord, my soul,

C: and never forget all the good He has done:

P: He is the One who forgives all your sins,

C: the One who rescues your life from the pit,

P: the One who crowns you with mercy and compassion,

C: the One who fills your life with blessings.

P: The Lord is compassionate, merciful, patient,

C: and always ready to forgive.

P: He will not always accuse us of wrong

C: or be angry with us forever.

P: He has not treated us as we deserve for our sins

C: or paid us back for our wrongs.

C: that is how far He has removed our transgressions from us.

Benediction P: May the love of the Lord Jesus draw us to Himself. May the power of the Lord Jesus make us strong to do His will. May the peace of the Lord Jesus fill our lives.
