Rules

1. The Academy of Chionchina of Pistoia and Sant’Andrea Group, with the sponsorship of the town council of Pistoia, of the province of Pistoia, of Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia e della Lucchesia, of the Foundation Un Raggio di Luce Onlus and with the cooperation of the Group of amateur photographers of Pistoia, of Confindustria Pistoia, of Confcommercio Pistoia and of the Museum of Paper in Pescia, in order to remember the figure of the friend and entrepreneur Giuliano Carrara

organizethe 13th “Giuliano Carrara” International Photographic Competition.

2. The Competition has a “Free” Subject, a “Paper and Cardboard: a world to discover” Subject. As far as Paper and Cardboard Subject is concerned particPIants are kindly requested to show through photographs how they see the world of paper and cardboard in all its possible aspects (practical, decorative, cultural etc.) from production to use, including disposal and recycling, how these materials affect our daily life, change our habits, solve our problems..

3. The Competition is divided into six sections:Sec. A IP B/W Projected Images (n° 4 max) Free Subject.Sec. B IP B/W Projected Images (n° 4 max) Paper and Cardboard SubjectSez. C IP COL Projected Images (n° 4 max) Free SubjectSez. D IP COL Projected Images (n° 4 max) Paper and Cardboard SubjectSez. E IP COL Projected Images (n° 4 max) Nature SubjectSez. F IP COL Projected Images (n° 4 max) Travel Subject

4. The competition is open to photographers from all around the world, who can send no more than four works for each section. Unpublished works will be taken into particular account. The Competition is valid for the FIAF statistic: Patronage 2020/M5 and for the FIAP statistic: Patronage 2020/063It should be noted that only PI Sections Free Subject B/W (sec. A) and Free Subject COL (sec. C) are valid for FIAF statistics.

5. The application for the competition must be made exclusively on the competition website "www.concorsofotograficogiulianocarrara.org", in the special section. We will not accept entry forms filled manually.

6. Projected images must be sent exclusively in digital form, in JPEG size and should have. We remind that files have to be presented with the sRGB Colour Profile. The maximum size of each image should be 5 megabytes. The digital images should be sent, together with the entry­form duly filled, by upload on the web site of the Competition www.concorsofotograficointernazionalegiulianocarrara.org. The Organizing Committee will not be held responsible for computer errors in reading the images. Images not close to the above mentioned technical requirements will not be admitted or judged.

Judging conditionsThe presentation of the projected images will be made by multimedia projector on a screen which has a diagonal length of 2,50m.

7. The entry fee, as repayment of expenses, is set at 20 Euro or 24 US Dollar and 18 Euro for FIAF members and must be sent via Paypal on the website of the Competition or bank transfer on the current account IBAN CODE n°: IT 40 U 01030 13809 000000197713 BIC CODE: PASCITM1Y96 headed to Sant’Andrea Spa c/o Monte dei Paschi di Siena – Ag. 8 – Viale Adua – 51100 Pistoia ­ Italy, specifying the reason for payment: "PARTICIPATION FEE CFGC 2020". Works without entry fee will not be admitted, either judged or returned.All proceeds from the entrance fee will be handed over by the Organizing Committee to the Foundation Un Raggio di Luce Onlus of Pistoia (www.unraggiodiluce.org), humanitarian organization that operates mainly in developing countries focusing on the defense of the rights of women and children.The works must be uploaded on the competition website not later than 23

February 2020.8. Every author is the sole responsible for everything that concerns his own

photos for all legal purposes and, except for explicit written prohibition, authorizes the issue with his name. With the acceptance of these rules every participant authorizes the treatment of personal data according to the Italian law 675/1996 and D. LGS 196/2003, with the aim to fulfil regularly the Competition. Each participant allows the insertion of his works into the web site and into the CD/catalogue of the Competition that the authors will send to all partecipants.

9. All participants of an online event under FIAP Patronage must tick a box next to which the following text is stated:“I hereby expressly agree to FIAP document 018/2017 « Conditions and regulations for FIAP Patronage » and FIAP document 017/2017 « Sanctions for breaching FIAP regulations and the red list ». I am particularly aware of chapter II « Regulations for International photographic events under FIAP patronage » of FIAP document 018/2017, dealing under Section II.2 and II.3 with the FIAP participation rules, the sanctions for breaching FIAP regulations and the red list.”FIAP documents 018/2017: https://www.myfiap.net/documents/FIAP%20DOC%20018%202017%20E.pdfand 017/2017 : https://www.myfiap.net/documents/FIAP%20DOC%20017%202017%20E%20F%20ES%20D.pdfParticipants who do not tick the box must be excluded from the contest.

With the sole act of submitting his/her images or files to a salon under FIAP Patronage, the entrant accepts without exception and with no objection that the submitted images can be investigated by FIAP to establish if these obey to FIAP regulations and definitions even if the entrant is not a member of FIAP; that FIAP will use any means at its disposal for this undertaking; that any refusal to cooperate with FIAP or any refusal to submit the original files as captured by the camera, or failure to provide sufficient evidence, will be sanctioned by FIAP and that in case of sanctions following the non compliance with FIAP regulations, the name of the entrant will be released in any form useful to inform the breaches of the rules. It is recommended to leave the EXIF data in the submitted files intact in order to ease eventual investigations.

10. All parts of the image have to be photographed by the author who is holding the copyright of all works submitted.

11. The jury will named as Winner of the Competition, and Best FIAP Author, the author with the highest number of admitted works and he will receive the FIAP Light Blue Pin.The decision of the juries is unquestionable and the participation to the Competition implies the complete acceptance of these and of the FIAF/FIAP rules.The result of the jury’s works in addition to the e­mail communication, will be published on the web site of the Competition. In order to make the presence to the prizegiving ceremony easier, the organizing committee will refund the winner of the competition the travel expenses by train or by plane (single and return ticket in economy class) and the stay expenses in a three stars hotel half board for two days.Money awards, that are not personally or through delegates collected, will be sent by bank transfer. Section Paper and Cardboard Subject B/W or COL

Graphic suggestions, books, origami, games with paper, kites, newsstands, posters, the paper production process, handmade paper, art and paper, bookshops, notes, writing, reading, in the library, paper and habits, paper objects, house of cards,

paper and game, paper and jobs, paper­pulp.

Section Nature

Macro, underwater macro, underwater landscape, underwater, waves, seashore, animal portrait, animal behavior, animals in group, birds, insects, mammals,

deserts, snow and ice, wetlands, plants, flowers, mountains, rivers and lakes, fire and heat, nature in the city.

Section Travel

Anthropic landscape, urban landscape, group of people, religious events, celebrative/cultural festival, night images, life in the city, work in the countryside, people with animals, women with children, housework, group work, people and bad weather, markets, traditional costume, along the street, on boat, from the airplane,

on train, in bicycle, on car.Definition of the black and white photography (monochrome)

A black and white work fitting from the very dark grey (black) to the very clear grey (white) is a monochrome work with the various shades of grey. A black and white work toned entirely in a single colour will remain a monochrome work able to stand in the black and white category; such a work can be reproduced in black and white in the catalogue of a salon under FIAP Patronage.On the other hand a black and white work modified by a partial toning or by the addition of one colour becomes a colour work (polychrome) to stand in the colour category; such a work requires colour reproduction in the catalogue of a salon under FIAP Patronage.

Definition of Nature PhotographyNature photography is restricted to the use of the photographic process to depict all branches of natural history, except anthropology and archaeology, in such a fashion that a well­informed person will be able to identify the subject material

and certify its honest presentation. The story telling value of a photograph must be weighed more than the pictorial quality while maintaining high technical quality. Human elements shall not be present, except where those human elements are integral parts of the nature story such as nature subjects, like barn owls or storks, adapted to an environment modified by humans, or where those human elements are in situations depicting natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal waves. Scientific bands, scientific tags or radio collars on wild animals are permissible. Photographs of human created hybrid plants, cultivated plants, feral animals, domestic animals, or mounted specimens are ineligible, as is any form of manipulation that alters the truth of the photographic statement.No techniques that add, relocate, replace, or remove pictorial elements except by cropping are permitted. Techniques that enhance the presentation of the photograph without changing the nature story or the pictorial content, or without altering the content of the original scene, are permitted including HDR, focus stacking and dodging/burning. Techniques that remove elements added by the camera, such as dust spots, digital noise, and film scratches, are allowed. Stitched images are not permitted. All allowed adjustments must appear natural. Color images can be converted to grey scale monochrome. Infrared images, either direct­captures or derivations, are not allowed.Images used in Nature Photography competitions may be divided in two classes: Nature and Wildlife.Images entered in Nature sections meeting the Nature Photography Definition above can have landscapes, geologic formations, weather phenomena, and extant organisms as the primary subject matter. This includes images taken with the subjects in controlled conditions, such as zoos, game farms, botanical gardens, aquariums and any enclosure where the subjects are totally dependent on man for food.

Definition of Wildlife PhotographyImages entered in Wildlife sections meeting the Nature Photography Definition above are further defined as one or more extant zoological or botanical organisms free and unrestrained in a natural or adopted habitat. Landscapes, geologic formations, photographs of zoo or game farm animals, or of any extant zoological or botanical species taken under controlled conditions are not eligible in Wildlife sections. Wildlife is not limited to animals, birds and insects. Marine subjects and botanical subjects (including fungi and algae) taken in the wild are suitable wildlife subjects, as are carcasses of extant species.Wildlife images may be entered in Nature sections of Exhibitions.
