Message from the Director of Education
Welcome to Kingsville for the OFSAA “AA” Girls Basketball
Championship.
I know that players, coaches, officials and spectators will enjoy the
hospitality offered by your hosts, Kingsville District High School.
We are very proud of our reputation for entertaining our friends from across the province. I
appreciate, though, that it takes a great deal of time and energy to stage an event of this
importance and to make it a success. Thank you to all the local organizers who have worked so
hard to get everything ready and make everyone feel welcomed.
On the floor this week, I hope the players and coaches realize their team and individual
expectations. Have fun, be safe and enjoy your visit to Kingsville.
Sincerely,
Erin Kelly

Presidents Message of Welcome
OFSAA Girl’s AA Basketball Championship
November 21-23, 2019
On behalf of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations, I welcome you to Kingsville DHS for the 2019
OFSAA Girls’ AA Basketball Championship. OFSAA Championships bring together student-athletes and teacher-
coaches from across the province of Ontario to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play. As representatives of
your school and association, you embody the best of school sport. It is our hope that this Championship is an opportunity
for you to showcase your skills, meet other competitors, continue to develop the camaraderie on your team and truly
experience the OFSAA motto “education through sport”.
I would also like to thank convenor Jason Leili, as well as all the members of the organizing committee from Kingsville
DHS who have worked tirelessly to make this an outstanding event for all. We are very appreciative of your hospitality
and organizational efforts on our behalf. Thank you for your commitment to school sport. Having been involved in
hosting OFSAA and participating in several Championships, I know the sense of community an OFSAA Championship
can bring to your school. This will be a rewarding experience for all.
To the many teacher-coaches who have dedicated their volunteer time, a very big thank-you. Your efforts ensure that
athletes are well-prepared and that the Championship will be a memorable part of the student’s educational experience.
Your commitment to the students in your charge is very much appreciated. Congratulations on your many successes this
season.
Finally, congratulations to the student-athletes. Your hard work, perseverance and commitment to your sport have paid
off. Please take the time during this Championship to thank the people in your life that helped guide you to this place.
May OFSAA be just one of the many celebrations in your journey of life-long participation. Best wishes for a successful
event.
OFSAA is about memories; take the time to cherish the experience (live in the moment) and to enjoy the competition and
camaraderie to its fullest.
Good luck and enjoy the Championship!

OFSAA
Athletes, Coaches and Families,
On behalf of the Kingsville District High School community and the Organizing Committee of the OFSAA

quaint town rich in history, Victorian architecture, great cuisine and a friendly ambience. It is with great pride,
dedication and enthusiasm that our Organizing Committee has prepared an outstanding venue for a great
competition in the spirit of athletic excellence.
Athletes, you are commended for your dedication to your team, school and sport. We hope that your
experiences over the next few days will only build on the skill, strength and passion that you have as a student-
athlete. May you always feel the excitement of the game long after you the last whistle is blown.
Coaches, teachers, volunteers and parents – with your tireless support and guidance, your athletes have earned
their place in this championship tournament. Your contributions will have a long lasting and far reaching
impact on and off the court. We are grateful that you recognize the many benefits to citizenship and school
climate when students are engaged in sport.
The army of student volunteers and community sponsors who have donated their time and resources to make
this championship event happen are given special acknowledgment. Their generosity and collaboration does
not go unnoticed and are representative of the fabric of the Kingsville community.
Final recognition is extended to the Organizing Committee who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to
initiate, organize and deliver a first-rate OFSAA experience. Their effort will allow those involved in this
championship event to continue to “imagine, explore and achieve” their dreams.
While you are in Kingsville, we hope that you have an opportunity to explore and enjoy our region with its

RETURN TO PLAY GUIDELINES
The following guidelines have been adopted from Ophea Guidelines - Appendix C – Physical
Activity and Sport Related Concussion.
For a detailed copy of the guidelines please visit www.ophea.net
Common Symptoms and Signs of Concussion
It is important to know that an athlete does not need to be “knocked out” (lose consciousness) to
have had a concussion. After the concussion, the athlete may experience many different kinds of
symptoms, and it is important to remember that some symptoms may appear immediately and
others later. Athletes may be reluctant to report symptoms of concussion because of a fear that
they will be removed from the game, or jeopardize their status on a team. But it is important to
consider the permanent repercussions of a concussion.
Without proper management, a concussion can result in permanent problems and even death.
Concussion should be suspected in the presence of any one or more of the following symptoms
and signs:
Thinking Problems
*Does not know time, date, place, class, type of activity in which he/she was participating •
General confusion
*Cannot remember things that happened before and after the injury
*Knocked out
Student’s Complaints
•Headache
• Dizziness
• Feels dazed
• Feels “dinged” or stunned; • “having my bell rung”
• Sees stars, flashing lights • Ringing in the ears
• Sleepiness
• Loss of vision
• Sees double or blurry
Other Problems
• Poor coordination or balance Blank stare/glassy-eyed Vomiting Slurred speech
• Slow to answer questions or follow directions Easily distracted Poor concentration
• Strange or inappropriate emotions, (e.g., laughing, crying, getting mad easily)
• Stomach ache/pain/nausea
• Not playing as well
