Cookie HistoryFor more than 70 years, Girl Scout cookie activities have helped girls learn valuable skills such as decision-making, money management and delivering on a promise. Girl Scout cookies had their earliest beginning in the kitchens and ovens of girl members, with mothers volunteering as technical advisors. The sale of cookies to help finance troop activities began as early as 1917; five years after Juliette Gordon Low started Girl Scouting in the United States. Into the 1920’s and 1930’s, Girl Scouts in different parts of the country continued to bake their own simple sugar cookies. These cookies were packaged in wax paper, sealed with a sticker and sold door to door for 25 cents per dozen.

Today, the Girl Scout Cookie Program captures the spirit and tradition of Girl Scouting. The Girl Scout Cookie Program helps girls realize their full potential and become strong, confident and resourceful citizens fulfilling the Girl Scout mission: Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.

What’s Inside a Box of Girl Scout Cookies?A lot more than the cookies themselves! There’s magic! When you purchase a box of cookies, you support local Girl Scout troop and Council activities, as well as help girls gain valuable skills that they will use all of their lives, and it all starts right here!

“ As parents, we know that 132 boxes of cookies will take a girl who is afraid to swim to Surf Camp, and she will find the courage to stand on that board (even if in only inches of water) sometime during that week-end because her sister Scouts have got her back. Just 65 boxes will let a 9-year old paleontology buff stay the night in a dinosaur museum where she can see the possibilities of turning something she loves into a future career. It only takes 34 boxes to donate a bag full of gifts to an under-privileged child at Christmas, and even less per girl to replant the entire common area of their elementary school for Earth Day to bring a bet-ter environment to everyone around. These are just some of the great things to come from our cookie sales. . .”
