  • Working collaborations2014 - present

  • Offices and showroomI collaborated with EGO Architettura Srl and Operae Lab on the design of the following projects.Hereunder there is the proposal for a company whose core business are display cabinets and supports. We came up with an open space that could host both the requested working spaces and a welcoming area with examples of their pieces.

Another project was a showroom for a building construction company: the golden scaffolding pipes are covered by a sinuous liberty reminding element that holds together the different parts of furniture.

I dealt with the architectural design of both these projects and I carried out the two renders on the left.

Jewelry store Facade survey This work was about furnishing a selling corner for a jewelry store: the design follows the existing part of the store (realized by Operae Lab) and it offers a luxurious and comfortable location where to relax while buying expensive jewels and watches.I provided these two renders below and the executive drawing of the showcase.

We made a survey of a facade of an historical building located in Alessandria to propose a new

street furniture at a later time.My tasks were to survey the facade in team and

then to draw the whole of it in CAD.

Regional museum of Natural scienceThis was an architectural competition announced by the municipality of Torino regarding the design of reception areas, accessory services and brand/signage image of the Regional museum of Natural science sited in Torino.Developing thematic trails and improving connections between the different spaces were the aim of our design. The proposal consists in two new organic outline volumes

    logo construction

    rendering of the courtyard

inspired by a generic bone structure. These partially occupy the courtyards in order to give new permeability to the arcade, currently closed.Logotype generation follows a process of linear graphic division of a golden rectangle. The same division guides the whole graphic signage and derives from the rule used to design the architectural sign of the courtyards.

OctopusThis is a proposal to reuse a World War II army fort built few miles far from British shores. The competition was organized by Re-Thinking, a Spanish platform of Architecture competitions. The task was to develop an astronomy center whose program consists in an observatory, a planetarium, an agora, conference room, workshops and provision of accommodation for between 30 and 50 people. We could have intervened on the existing buildings or on their outside, always incorporating them as part of the project. Important were the study of connections, access, use of roofs, waste management, water supply, energy sources, and how to cope with climate and maritime aspects (see the next page for our choices).

Octopus is the concept we chose to develop the connections between the different towers: the tentacles become a continuous footbridge wrapped around the towers and covered by sliding modules that can open or close the roof depending on the weather. This links the heart, where common activities, such as the gym and the canteen are located, to the following towers: the head composed of the two side male and

female dorms and of the central tower hosting the shared recreational spaces

TOgether in Porta NuovaThe task was to plan the large flat area behind the actual station of Porta Nuova in Torino. The municipal plans said the railroad tracks could be moved leaving an empty surface in a position interesting for the city. Therefore the project proposed the following: to move back these tracks to Marconi metro

station, connecting this to the new train station

to move them underground to sew up the space between the two opposite neighborhoods

to promote activities of social integration and cultural exchange in the former train station building

to commit the design of this new cultural center to a team of architects, sociologists and anthropologists, in order to highlight the dynamism and the internationality of the new meeting point.

  • EDIFICES WHICH DEFINE SPACES:

building shapes define both the spaces inside the plot and those that connect to

contiguous plots. Each space will have its own

identity while maintaining a sense of overall cohesion.

CONNECTION BETWEEN PLOTS: newly designed full and empty spaces

were studied to guarantee a connection to spaces of the

    contiguous plots.

VISUAL CONNECTION: the axes which define

new volume shapes are generated by linking polarities

    identified in the plot.

The plot was an industrial site in the middle of the borgata San Pietro in Moncalieri. The

municipal plan allowed to relocate and to rescale this site, allowing for the introduction of

housing, offices and public services. The project communicates with the existing part of the city; volumes respect the urban

texture and relate to the undergoing project to north.

The park extends along the Sangone torrent bank unifying the area on either side of the

river bank, becoming that green link that gives name to this project.

Urban sections show the several project heights, the facade movement and the

  • The designing topic was the new IUAV site in the town of Mestre, that is part of Venice metropolitan area. The context was both the ex macello site, a disused slaughterhouse next to (the University)CaFoscaridepartmentin via Torino and the area of Forte Marghera separated by a green area. The program was to restore and reused the ex macello and one building in Forte Marghera.I studied in depth the relation between new and existing buildings, extending the research to the whole town as it can be seen by the schemes I did on the features of Mestre urban texture. It was not born as an assembly of random shapes without regard to the existing city (as in the city of objects), but it aimed to integrate in the built up area generating a new symbiosis with the elements, whilstmaintainingthesitesownsingular character.

    The project

followed the vertical city strategy in order to save most of the already

built-up area. It consists of three 63 m high towers each providing a different function (residential, parking

lots, educational, managerial). These towers will be erected in the already built-up area of ex

macello, preserving the contiguous green area. On a large scale, the

    triadofbuildingsstopstrafficand allows a large renewed

green strip to welcome and lead people to the area

    of Forte Marghera, through pedestrian

    routes.

  • This is the one of the three buildings that contains classrooms, an auditorium and

exposition spaces. The idea was to create a seamless

exposition path, so I thought about a triangular ramp which connects the ground

    floortothefirst.

Then, the guideline was that this building must be used by all citizens, even when the University was closed. Thus, the external ramp can be used by everyone to reach the terrace to admire lagoon panorama or to watch an exposition short movie, projected on the building facade, sitting on the inclined plan that covers the auditorium.

The area of Forte Marghera the former military fort was thought to be reused as a linked annex to the ex macello university campus.Different pavilions would have included exposition spaces for studentsworks, study rooms for those who want to break out from campus daily routine , a library and a restaurant/dining hall. The red building on the right is the one selected to be restored and be reused as a study room.Below there are two passages of the restoration design process doneontheformerslaughterhouse:firstarecognitionoftheseveralelementsofthebuilding, secondlythecodificationofthedecay symptom affecting each element.

  • The second experience in the lagoon area, specificallyinLido di Venezia, allowed me

to focus on matters such as orientation of design and its placement inside the

assigned site.If it is true that panorama and comfort are important, itisalsotruethatabuildings

energy requirements are essential. A good exposition to solar rays is the

    beginning of energy saving.

  • This integrated studio included a course on Cost Estimation, which prompted me to reason not only about technological choices of materials, but also economic ones. The project is modeled for a client the painter who, however, has to follow his own economic resources: so it is better to have a variety of alternatives in addition to the basic package of the project.

  • My idea was to reproduce the typical passageway of Venice: the calle: that is the reason for the narrow passages which allow people to cross the building in different directions on the ground floor. The project consists in two exposition spaces, one cafeteria and one library onthegroundfloor.

We passed from an architectural to a detailed technological section in which relationships between existing materials and those of the project were analyzed. The covering reflects the surroundings using red bricks such as in the Magazzini and in Santa Marta.
