Parties, diving and utter relaxation! The biggest and most popular of the Gili Islands...

Gili Trawangan, also called Gili T or Gili Tralala is the largest of the three islands at 340 hectares and also furthest from Lombok (about 30min by boat from the port of Bangsal). Its terrain is instantly recognisable by a hill to the south-western tip that can be seen when approaching the island. The perimeter is hemmed with splendid sandy white beaches and the clear water is exquisitely turquoise and warm! In the south, there is also a surf spot for lovers of board sports and the entire island is accessible for snorkeling and other water activities. This is by far the most popular and also the most developed island. You can find accommodation for all budgets, from a simple one-room bungalow on the beach, to luxurious villas with private pools. You can choose to be in front of the sea, within the village or even in the coconut plantation. although it has the bad reputation of a party island, the northwest coast of Gili Trawangan is a small haven. arriving at the port, you will find yourself on the main street littered with bars, restaurants, and shops of all kinds. Your hunger pangs will be satisfied by

a variety of culinary delights. Getting around is easy, there are no cars or motorcycles, just small horse-drawn carriages, cidomo, recognisable by the sound of their bells and their famous horns, dressed in beautiful summer colours. You can easily tour the island on foot and rent a bike for a day or more if you plan to stay longer. For partying, you definitely need to go to the east coast. every evening, a bar, pub or restaurant puts on entertainment. There is something for everyone (live, techno, full moon, reggae, pop remix ...)

Gili T is the island with a little spicy kick, where you’ll also find other things to nibble on, indulge your curiosity and come!

Gili Trawangan, appelée aussi Gili T ou encore Gili Tralala est la plus grande des trois îles avec une superficie de 340 hectare et aussi la plus éloignée de Lombok (environ 30 min en bateau à partir du port de Bangsal). son relief est reconnaissable par sa colline située à la pointe sud-ouest que l'on aperçoit tout de suite en se rapprochant de l'île. son pourtour est ourlé de splendides plages de sable blanc et l'eau, limpide, est d'un bleu turquoise et d'une chaleur exquise ! au sud, se trouve également un spot de surf pour les amateurs de sensation de glisse et la totalité de l'île est accessible pour le snorkeling et autres activités nautiques. C'est de loin l'île la plus fréquentée et aussi la plus développée. Vous pourrez y trouver des hébergements pour tous les budgets, allant de la simple chambre au bungalow sur la plage, de l'hôtel de luxe aux villas privées avec piscine. Vous aurez le choix de vous installer en front de mer, sans le village ou bien dans la cocoteraie. Bien qu'elle ait la réputation sulfureuse d'une île où règne la fête, Gili Trawangan est aussi un petit havre de paix pour celui qui s'installera sur la

côte nord-ouest de l'île. en arrivant au port, vous serez directement sur la rue principale jonchée de nombreux bars, restaurants, boutiques de toutes sortes. Vous pourrez satisfaire vos envies culinaires par la multitude de variétés gastronomiques. Pour se déplacer c'est simple, il n'y a ni voiture, ni moto, seulement de petites charrettes à cheval, les cidomo. Ils sont reconnaissables par le son de leurs grelots et leur fameux klaxons, et leurs belles couleurs estivales. Vous pourrez aisément faire le tour de l'île à pied et louer un vélo pour la journée ou plus si vous projetez de rester plus longtemps. Pour la fête, c'est indéniablement sur la côte est qu'il faut se diriger. Chaque soir, un bar, pub ou restaurant organise une soirée. Il y en a pour tous les goûts (concert live, techno, full moon, reggae, pop remix...)

The small Gili Meno is in the middle of the other two islands. often criticised for the high presence of mosquitoes due to its lake, there are none today. Meno is a paradise for people seeking quiet, solitude and tranquillity. Its beaches are extraordinary; they are the most beautiful of the three islands, with dazzling white sand, dotted with quirky trees plunging into the water. La petite Gili Meno se situe au milieu des deux autres îles. souvent critiquée par la présence accrue des moustiques à cause de son lac, il n'en est rien aujourd'hui. Meno est un vrai paradis pour les personnes avides de calme, de solitude et de tranquillité. ses plages sont extraordinaires; elles sont les plus belles des trois îles, avec un sable blanc éblouissant, parsemées d'arbres biscornus plongeant dans l'eau. Lorsqu'on arrive ici, on entre dans une bulle de douceur, le temps s'arrête. seul le bruit des vagues berce vos oreilles. Peu peuplée, il est possible de rencontrer les villageois en se baladant à vélo à l'intérieur de l'île. Local life, coconut trees and turtles! a good compromise between the three islands...

"selamat Datang" is what the inhabitants of Gili air will tell you as soon as you arrive on the island. It means welcome in Indonesian. This is the nearest island to Lombok, just 10 minutes by boat from Bangsal. It is also the most populous, with more than 1500 people. If you want to relax and have a wonderful time with local people, you are in the right place! Just like Gili T, beautiful beaches encircle the island, the sand is white and fine, and the water is calm and clear. You will find simple accommodation; you can stay with the locals, but there are also beautiful rooms and bungalows with air conditioning and hot water and a few luxury hotels. This island is increasingly visited. new accommodation, bars and restaurants appear every year, which suggests rapid development in the future. But Indonesians are very attached to their land and will not let their heritage slip away as easily as that. Thank goodness, I hear you say! Because this means the spirit of Gili air will be preserved - a sweet and peaceful island, where life is good! The most developed part is to the east. However, you will discover that the village is

small when you explore it. There are a few warung (restaurants) where you can sample local dishes like nasi goreng, nasi campur, the urap-urap and other parapek! other restaurants on the seafront do serve western food but mostly fresh grilled fish and shellfish. Finally, like Gili T, the bike is a must. Whilst riding among the palm trees on the seafront, you can enjoy a beautiful sunset behind the Gunung agung in Bali and a wonderful sunrise over Mount Rinjiani. Children play in the street, and along the water’s edge maybe you’ll spot a wedding! once evening draws in, you’ll also enjoy the famous bintang, nice and cool, to the sound of guitars and singing! The people are very curious and affable, and will ask you lots of questions. Go along with it!

Gili air is the island with a slightly salty taste where you’ll find truly deep flavours, bring your appetite and come!

Vie locale, cocotiers et tortues ! Un bon compromis entre les 3 îles...

"selamat Datang" vous diront les habitants de Gili air, à peine arrivé sur l'île. Cela veut dire bienvenue en indonésien. C'est l'^île la plus proche de Lombok, à peine 10 min en bateau de Bangsal. C'est aussi la plus peuplée, plus de 1500 habitants. si vous avez envie de vous ressourcer et de partager de merveilleux moments avec les locaux vous êtes au bon endroit ! De belles plages entourent l'île, plus ou moins larges, le sable est blanc et fin, l'eau calme et translucide. Ici vous trouverez de simples hébergements, vous pourrez loger chez l'habitant, mais aussi de belles chambres et bungalows avec climatisation et eau chaude et quelques hôtels au grand standing. Cette île est de plus en plus visitée. Chaque année de nouveaux logements, bars et restaurants font surface, ce qui pourrait laisser croire à un développement rapide et certain pour le futur. Mais les indonésiens sont très attachés à leur terre et ne laisseront pas filer leur patrimoine aussi facilement que cela. Tant mieux vous dira-t-on ! Car ceci préservera l'esprit de Gili air : une petite île douce et paisible où il fait bon vivre ! La partie la plus développée se trouve à l'est. Le

village est petit, néanmoins, vous trouverez, en vous baladant, quelques warung (restaurant) où vous pourrez goûter les plats locaux comme, le nasi goreng, le nasi campur, l'urap-urap et autres parapek ! D'autres restaurants, au bord de mer servent aussi de la "western food" mais surtout des poissons et crustacés frais grillés. enfin, comme à Gili T, le vélo est de rigueur, en vous baladant au milieu des cocotiers, sur le front de mer, vous pourrez apprécier un magnifique coucher de soleil sur le Gunung agung de Bali et un merveilleux lever sur le mont Rinjiani. Les enfants joueront dans les rues et au bord de l'eau, peut^-être assisterez-vous à une cérémonie de mariage ! Le soir venu, vous apprécierez aussi la fameuse Bintang bien fraîche au son des guitares et des chants ! Les habitants sont curieux et très avenants, ils vous poseront quelques questions. Jouez le jeu !

To reach the Gili Islands there are three options. The fast boat is the fastest, easiest but also the most expensive way. several companies operate from various ports in Bali (see map) and offer a free transfer from your hotel to the boarding point, depending on your location. Journey times vary from 1.5 hours to 3.5 hours depending on weather conditions. You can also go to the pier on your own and buy your ticket directly. Below you will find details of schedules and departures. For more information and online booking, visit gilibookings.com. If you have a limited budget, you can choose the ferry option. The crossing takes five hours from Padang Bai in Bali. If you want to get to the Gili islands in the evening, take a boat in the morning, from 8am. once at Lembar Port Lombok, find a means of transport

to get to Bangsal Port, then take a public boat after buying a ticket at the office. allow 10 - 30 minutes to cross depending on your destination. The last option is by air. Take a flight via the international airport in Lombok Praya (see table), go to Bangsal (about 2 hours) and take the public boat. Pour rejoindre les îles Gili, trois possibilités s'offrent à vous. The Gilis Islands are a great destination for divers. Whether you are an amateur, a professional or just a beginner, you will be delighted by the fascinating, abounding reefs of the Gilis. Come and meet the many turtles, reef sharks, lion and scorpion fish, colourful nudibranchs, manta rays and much more! The Gili eco Trust project, an artificial reef

called Biorock, is a partnership created between the diving clubs and the local community. The aim is to improve the Gilis ecosystem and to ensure lasting protection. You will help fund the foundation by paying a contribution for your first dive. Rates are the same in all diving centres whichever club you choose. If you cannot dive you always have the option of snorkeling (mask, snorkel, fins) which is a good way to freely explore the waters around Gili islands! You can see turtles, all kinds of fish, blue-spotted stingrays ... Let yourself drift with the current, whilst being careful because sometimes it can be very strong! You can rent the equipment very easily on all three islands. another alternative is a snorkeling trip - a day out on a boat. You leave in the morning around 9am for a full circuit of the Gilis, visiting the best snorkeling spots of the three islands. You stop for lunch and finish about 4pm. You can book

ORIGInS ORIGInES ORIGInabout 200 years ago, fishing people from sulawesi, parts of Macassar, Bugis and Mandar came across the Gili islands. They discovered that there were fishing waters and drinking water on Gili air, which means "island of the water." The vegetation was dense with many coconut trees and the land was suitable for cultivation. They settled on the island and started producing different fruits and vegetables such as mangoes, corn, peanuts and tapioca. at that time, marking out a field with string and cleaning it up was enough to claim it. The first traditional houses of the Gilis appeared (1). other sulawesiens arrived later to populate the Gili Islands. The presence of a salt lake on Meno attracted some people for salt manufacturing. In turn, the second island was populated. as for Gili T, it was initially used by the authorities as a penal colony where prisoners cultivated the land. not having all the necessary resources, the islanders bartered with the people of Lombok. They exchanged food, the harvest of their crops, and land, for rice and other products. This is how the first sasak arrived on the Gilis. and the first marriages fostered this diversity.

Il y a environ 200 ans, des peuples pêcheurs de sulawesi, des régions de Macassar, Bugis et Mandar arrivèrent par hasard sur les îles Gili. Ils y ont découvert des eaux poissonneuses et de l'eau potable sur Gili air, qui veut dire "île de l'eau". La végétation était dense avec de nombreux cocotiers et la terre propice à la culture. Ils se sont donc installés et ont commencé à produire différents fruits et légumes comme les mangues, le maïs, les cacahuètes et le tapioca. à cette époque, il suffisait de délimiter un terrain avec une ficelle et de le nettoyer pour se l'approprier. Les premières maisons traditionnelles des Gilis virent le jour (1). D'autres sulawesiens arrivèrent par la suite pour peupler les îles Gilis. La présence du lac salé sur Meno en attira certains pour la fabrication du sel, la deuxième île se peupla à son tour. Quant à Gili T, au départ, elle était utilisée par les autorités comme bagne où les prisonniers mettaient en place des cultures. ne disposant pas de toutes les ressources nécessaires, les îliens faisaient du troc avec les habitants de Lombok. Ils échangeaient de la nourriture, résultat de leurs cultures et des terres contre du riz et autres produits. C'est ainsi que les premiers sasak arrivèrent sur les Gilis. et les premiers mariages nourrirent ce mixage.

HISTORY HISTOIRE SEJARAHThe first inhabitants of the Gili islands spoke different dialects according to their sulawesi hometown. after some time and with the mixing of people, these languages have disappeared to give way to Gili air sasak which is different from the sasak of Lombok. after the Dutch colonisation, the Indonesian people suffered from the Japanese invasion during the second World War. The Gilis did not escape. some locals were captured to perform forced labour in Lombok, including the construction of roads. There are remnants of the war on the Trawangan hill, a Japanese artillery battery. The first tourists arrived in the 1990s whereupon Bali gained its worldwide reputation.

Today, each island has its own mosque, some more than one. The first was built in Gili air about 80 years ago. The Muezzin calls the faithful five times a day, the first prayer begins at 5am. Friday is the most important day; the villagers go to the mosque to pray from 12pm to 2pm. MORPHOLOGY MORPHOLOGIEDark green, grey or black, the Komodo dragon can blend into its environment and surprise its prey. Its tail is as long as its body and its legs end in long curved claws. It has 60 serrated teeth up to 2.5 cm long and a forked yellow tongue. BEHAvIOUR COMPORTEMEnTThe dragon lives mostly in hot and dry places in areas of grassland, savannah and tropical forests at low altitudes. It can be active at night but is much more so during the day. a solitary creature, it approaches others to eat or mate. It can run up to 20 km/h, dive to a depth of 4.5m, and climb trees (when young). sometimes it can stand up, using its tail as a fulcrum to catch prey out of reach. They have a varied diet, which includes invertebrates, other reptiles, birds, small mammals, monkeys, wild boar, goats, deer, horses and buffalo. Cook the eggs like an omelette over a low heat in a tablespoon of oil to form a thin pancake. With the remaining oil, in a wok or large skillet, add the chicken and thinly sliced carrot, and brown slowly. add sambal oelek (chili paste), soy sauce, rice and chopped onions. Fry until everything is hot and has a nice golden colour. add the finely chopped or crushed garlic and take off the heat after one minute. serve immediately, garnished with strips of omelette. There is a variant with pasta called "mie goreng".
