'' What I have, all along, tried to do in my photographic work, initially in an obscure approach but increasingly in a deliberate manne, is to convey the present without ending up having only done a report of facts or even of events; as well as to imagine the future without falling back on speculations based on assumptions.''

Anonymous

Being anonymous. Anonymous beings.Living in a dream promising immediate fulfillment.Besieged by objects and capitalist culture, which seems to be near and yet so far.Frustrated by their belongings and obsessed by their promises. These same beings are driven to become fragile and vulnerable. They are alienated thus marginalized by society.Anonymity is the daily life.I intended to ward off ill fortune and reality by pulling out a thing from daily life.

Eleven Views of Mount Ararat- by Jalal Toufic Referring in its title to the famous series « Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji » bythe Japanese artist Hokusai, which was later augmented to fourty -six prints and which was produced between 1826 and 1833 ,Gilbert Hage›s Eleven Views of Mount Ararat (2009) depicts another preeminent mountain , one also viewed by many as sacred, this time it appears in the context of various houses of members of the Armenian community of Lebanon.

Could Hage have made a book with thirty-six views, if not fourty-six views, of mount Ararat?

Not at this historical point; Hage›s book implies, intertextually and symptomatically, an absence, one that cannot be alleviated simply by photographing additional appearences of the mountain (in paintings, drawings, postcards, etc...) by visiting more interiors (in fact, Hage did photograph more than eleven such instances, as is indicated on the acknowledgements page of his book, but he justly did not include them in the book).

Toufican Ruins?Judging by the title of this book Toufican Ruins?, Gilbert Hage wonders whether any of the buildings that appear in the photographs he took in Beirut's southern suburb in the aftermath of the 2006 Israeli war on Lebanon are ruins - in the sense Jalal Toufic gives tp this term in his essay «Ruins:, which is reprinted in the same book.In case some of them are ruins, what will happen when they are reconstucted?Toufic: '' I predict that when war-damaged buildings have vanished from Beirut's scape, some people will begin complaining to psychiatrists that they are apprehending even reconstucted buildings as ruins. While the imagination of desaster for a city such as Los Angeles, which has not already been reducted to ruins, is that of its destruction, exemplarily in an earthquake, for Beirut it is fundamentally that of its revelation when reconstructed as still a ruined city.''

Screening Berlin

Each year, as tourist vacationers, tens of millions of humans yield to an extra conditioning: they follow the directives of a guide, the rhythm of a group, and are instructed cursorily in the doxa on various countries turned venues.

Under the pretext of anticipating their needs, desires, and even their whims, they are dissuaded from and independent choice.

In a sightseeing boat during a guided tour of Berlin, Gilbert Hage resisted - while fixed to his seat - by means of photography the concomitant insidious screening of Berlin. The result, screening Berlin, is a number of moving encounters in the form of chance compositions of lanscapes and people.
