‘We’re very confident in what we do, and wanted everyone to get a taste of what to expect on our studio album in 2018.’

- Dan Scully, Singer/Lyricist

‘Live at The Albert’ is the new album from Brighton-based folk-rock band, ‘40 Shillings on the Drum’, recorded at the prestigious Prince Albert venue, Brighton, England, in November 2017.

The album features several new songs that were performed for the first time on the night and demonstrate the band’s passion for pushing the genre in a unique direction, whilst retaining the spirit and heart of the folk music that orig-inally inspired them. The ten track album opens with ‘Saturday Night Slaugh-ter’, a brand new song about the dangers of drug-driving and influenced by the death of dance music pioneer, Robert Miles, in 2017. The DJ’s biggest hit, ‘Chil-dren’, was itself an anthem that helped to curb an increasing death toll after clubbers in the mid-90’s drove home from drug-fueled nights. The story struck a chord with the Shilling’s lyricist, Scully, who wanted to honour the man, whilst reminding today’s youth of the dangers. The album also features ‘The Early Days’, another new song and a relatable story of love that fades too soon. With varying influences, including factual, personal and imagined, the songs demonstrate Scully’s ability to take influence from many forms and combine them all to keep the listener engaged. Nestled alongside the new songs are a selection from their debut EP, ‘Beggars Who Believe’, such as the standalone single, ‘The English Coast’. The music video for ‘The English Coast’ racked up 30k, totally organic views in the sum-mer of 2017, and led to the charity, Brighton & Hove Impetus, making contact

and requesting to use the positivity of the video to front their campaign, ‘Con-nect 4 Loneliness’.

‘Live at The Albert’, the live album by 40 Shillings on the Drum, will be released worldwide to stream and as a digital download on Fri-day 26th January 2018 and will be available through – 40shillingsonthedrum.uk, iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, eMusic, Deezer, Spotify and more. A limited run of CDs will be available from Friday 16th March 2018 and available through the band’s offi-cial website.

‘Great recordings. Love the distortion and your guitarist. You've got a great Brit pop style of vox too!’ Bobby Banjo, Beans On Toast

‘I love the energy on these recordings, it's something that I think is really miss-ing from contemporary music. There is obviously an Irish influence, but I hear shades of The Clash (at their best), Thin Lizzy, Boomtown Rats, Elvis Costello. You've really managed to capture the feeling that you are reflecting real people on the street.’ Mark Flannery, Engineer/Producer (U2, Black Sabbath, Depeche Mode)

‘Opener Ode To Old Reilly set the tone of a band big on musicianship and melody — and intelligent lyrics with both a meaning and enough hooks to get under the skin of even the most hardened music lover.’ The Brighton Maga-zine, brighton.co.uk
