G.O.A.L.S.GIFTED ONLINE ACTIVITIES AND LEARNING FOR SUMMER

Welcome to our 2nd summer of online courses for N.E.I.S.D. elementary gifted students. These courses are open to any G.T. student from our district who was in 3rd-5th grade for the 2013-2014 school year with one of the following GT teachers who have volunteered to teach this summer: Mrs. Bimler, Mrs. DeLac, Mrs. Eichholz, Mrs. Germadnik, Mrs. Laughlin, or Mrs. Polanco. Students may only register for one course.

Registration will be from 4/7/14 to 4/17/14.

Monday-Thursday Assignments will be posted by 10 AM daily. Submissions for previous day assignment must be posted to the topic’s shared Google presentation by 10 AM the following day.

Must have basic art supplies: markers, colored pencils, crayons, art paper, construction paper, etc. Advanced skills in Google Docs (know how to access shared work, collaborate and add to presentations), digital camera skills and the ability to upload photos into a digital presentation.

ART ELEMENTSDARYN POLANCOStudents will learn the 7 art elements-line, shape, color, value, texture, form, & space. They will complete at least 12 art projects that they will share with classmates in Google Presentation!

Teacher will post a new lesson on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Students should have their projects posted by the following Tuesday.

Must have access to a computer that has internet capabilities. This class will be friendly to kids with little to no coding experience all the way up to kids that are fully fluent in using Scratch. This will be an interactive experience, where we will explore, learn and teach each other.

JUMP INTO PROGRAMMING WITH SCRATCHKACIE GERMADNIKInterested in learning how to code? Then this is a perfect class for you. I will introduce and teach a new coding concept each week, leading up to a final project, but we will also be learning from each other. If you have been working with code (or Scratch) and can show us some amazing things, then I welcome you to jump in as a co-teacher. Let's create something amazing through fun and learning together.

You will need: Knowledge of Google Docs (know username and password); materials: basic art supplies for creative piece and ability to take and upload photos for sharing.

OUT OF THIS WORLDMONICA LAUGHLINStudents will use web sites to learn about the biggest system of all, the Solar System. After discovering the workings of different parts of our solar system, students will use their creative skills to take their learning to different level. There will be two creative parts that they can have fun making and then share online with other Out of This World members.

Assignment is self-guided and self-paced.  Students can do the missions daily or in batches.  It is their choice.  1 mission (with multiple clues) will be posted daily by 10 am for a total of 12 missions in the course.  Students will respond for each mission on a google doc. form with the correct location of the dogs.  At the end of the course, students will create their own geographical/historical mission for the group.

You will need: Internet accessibility, researching skills, basic understanding of edmodo and a google docs account.  Each mission will be posted via edmodo with a link to the mission and a link to a google doc. form to submit an answer after completing the mission.

MISSION MAP QUEST: VIRTUAL GEOGRAPHIC TREASURE HUNTKATRI DELACIf you choose to accept this mission…”  Students will receive geographical, historical, architectural, thematic, etc. clues to go on a treasure hunt around the world to discover the mysterious location of 2 loveable dogs who love to travel the globe.  Unfortunately, they left without telling Mrs. Delac their itinerary!  Therefore she needs your help to locate them!  The dogs are quick travelers and like to make the most of their time abroad and away from home.  Each day there will be a new mission to accomplish and students will deduce clues to lead Mrs. Delac to the dogs’ locations.  “Good luck if you choose to accept the missions.  This message will self-destruct upon reading…”
