W anganui Driver Matt Gibson has confirmed his backer for the 2012/2013 National motor racing season. Gibson will continue his partnership with Lighting Plus running a series 6 Mazda Rx7 in the Mazda Pro7 racing championship. Gibson entered two rounds last season in the Suzuki Swift Cup under Lighting Plus colours and is excited about his new season ahead. “It’s awesome to have such a vibrant company backing me in my motorsport, both me and Lighting Plus are excited about what the future may hold for my motorsport career. It is definitely exciting times” Gibson commented. The Mazda Pro7 racing Championship has two championships. They run a New Zealand Championship and also a North Island Championship. Gibson will run in both the championships with round one of the NZ Champs down in the Deep South at Teretonga in Invercargill on the weekend of 29th and 30th September. The North Island series has 6 Rounds in the series starting at Taupo Motorsport Park on labour weekend and concluding at Taupo Motorsport Park in March 2013. This year there is going to be a good field of new cars and drivers expected to turn up which will provide some close exciting racing which spectators are sure to excited by. Mazda Pro7 Racing will appear at the highly regarded New Zealand Grand Prix meeting as a support class to the NZ V8s and Toyota racing Series on the weekend of the 9th and 10th of February 2013. “This event provides massive exposure to drivers and sponsors with International drivers and teams turning up for the Grand Prix, the weekend is sure to be a date to mark on your calendar” said Gibson Matt and his team have tested the ex Martin Hicks Rx7 and have posted some respectable times with only one day of testing. “The car is so much smoother and responsive”. Matt comparing the car to his previous series one Rx7 he raced last season. Matt Gibson Motorsport has also confirmed their secondary sponsors for the season. Matt thanks Tom Ditchfield Panel Beaters, Firewatch Wanganui, Chemz, The Watershop, Precision Spray painting, Display Associates, Inferno Design, PPG Paints, Toyo Tyres and Stocks for coming on board for the 2012/2013 Racing Season.
