Ricky is product manager of the Solid Edge Draft and PMI software. He has over
30 years of experience in manufacturing and mechanical CAD. He has worked
as a machinist and CNC programmer on flight hardware in the aerospace
industry. He has also worked as a CNC programmer in mold design. He worked
as an instructor and applications engineer for Intergraph’s NC software. With his
expertise in manufacturing he later moved into software development for the
same NC software. Ricky was a member of the Solid Edge Draft software
development team since the beginning of Solid Edge. He accepted the roll of the
Solid Edge Draft Product Manager in the spring of 2002.

Reference Text
• Reference Text is used to extract text from annotations, then to be inserted
into other annotations.
E.g. Feature Control Frame has a reference to the Datum
Frame text ‘A’. If ‘A’ is changed in the Datum Frame, then
the Feature Control Frame will update automatically.

• The following annotations may be
referenced (Source Type): • Callout
• Datum Frame

• Property to reference (Field):
• Different fields by source type
• String uses the general form of
Property Text. It is created through
the Reference Text Dialog.
E.g. %{Balloon Upper|Ref:A256} means a
reference to the Upper text in the Balloon with ID
of ‘A256’.

• ‘Reference’ property is split into ‘Reference’ and ‘Number’.
• When used as Reference text an FCF only displays the ‘Reference’ property, not the ‘Number’.

View Depth
• The depth line tracks with cursor to
define the display depth.
• The shaded area indicates what will
be cut away, not what to keep.
(Bottom – Up)
• Click a keypoint for associative
depth
• Click in free space for non-
associative depth.

(Note: Shaded area starts from the drawing view border.)
• An orthogonal view could be located to
define depth. It includes auxiliary view,
section view and rotated principal view,
which is not supported in ST6.
• Click on key point, then depth will be
associative with that key point.
• Non-associative depth is still supported
by Ctrl+click on key point.
• Clicking is free space is also non-
associative.

Associative Drawing View Depth
• A center line can be located when it is parallel with the depth line. The depth will
be associative to the centerline.
• Non-associative depth(ST6 behavior) is still supported by clicking in free space.
