SITRAM® Condition Monitor –all key parameters at a glance

The challenge:

Transformers play a key role in power plants, transport and distribution networks, and in industry. Continu-ous recording and monitoring of the key parameters of the active part, the tap-changer, the bushings and the cooling system is all the more important. As individual sensors only show parts of the overall picture, a monitoring platform is needed to integrate – and jointly analyze – data from all different kinds of sensors.

Example of measured quantities combined in the SITRAM® Condition Monitor

Siemens has developed a modular monitoring system that allows you as the operator to cover all different kinds of sensors, protocols and parameters as cost-efficiently as possible. The SITRAM® Condition Monitor can be used on all your transformers, regardless of manufacturer and age. Customer-specific solutions can be built on a basic version, and it’s also no problem to integrate existing sensors, for example as part of a retrofit solution.

The individual measured values are com-bined directly in the switch cabinet of the monitoring system with a data acquisition unit. Thanks to standardized interfaces, it’s easy to integrate the SITRAM® Guards or other equipment. The SITRAM® Condition Monitor is an open-ended system offering a secure investment even if standards change or additional requirements arise.

With SITRAM® Condition Monitor …

you get a comprehensive picture of the current status, operating trends, and signals received from your trans-formers.

faults can be detected early and correct decisions can be taken on a safe basis.

you receive information for the economical use of maintenance measures to extend the service life.

you’re on the safe side when it comes to labour safety and environmental protection.

Boost your profitability. SITRAM® Condition Monitor provides a complete picture of the transformer – for greater reliability and longer service life.

Basic version

The basic version of the SITRAM® Condition Monitor offers measurement analyses for the most important pa-rameters of the transformer condition. For many transformer applications, the basic version guarantees the availability of fundamental information – and thus helps to significantly increase availability and service life.

The following groups of operating parameters are monitored continuously:

Winding temperatureThe measured oil temperature is used to calculate the load-dependent winding or hot-spot temperature in accordance with IEC/ANSI standard.

Service life consumptionThe rate of service life consumption is determined on the basis of the calculated hot-spot temperature by applying IEC/ANSI standards.

A solid basis for your transformer reliability

The SITRAM® Condition Monitor also provides remote access to data.

SITRAM® Condition Monitor is part of the SITRAM® MONITORING concept. This refers to our modular solutions for maintaining the availability of your transformers at a high level. We work with you to define the solutions that

precisely meet your needs.

Fault gas indicationThe continuous monitoring of gases dissolved in oil can be used for early detection of faults in the core-and-coil assembly. Acquisition of the rates of increase is crucial for this assessment. In the basic version, a sensor type that measures mainly hydrogen is used for online analysis of the dissolved gases.

Moisture-in-oil measurementMoisture accelerates the aging of the insulation and leads to a decrease of the breakdown voltage in the oil. Our solution monitors moisture in the oil and thus also supports the timely use of suitable drying measures such as SITRAM® DRY. As with fault gas indi-cation, the assessment of the change over time is the crucial diagnostic indicator in this case.

Expansion modules

The basic version can be supplemented with:

Tap-changer monitoring Supports the early detection of mechanical faults and the condition-based maintenance of the switch contacts.

Bushing monitoring Detects faults in bushings and helps avoid damage to the entire transformer.

Multigas monitoringSITRAM® GAS-Guard 8 performs the required gas chromatography analyses and fault diagnosis in accordance with IEC 60599 directly at the transformer.

Partial discharge monitoringIs another sensitive instrument for early fault detection used to aug-ment dissolved gas analysis (DGA).

Keep an eye on all data – live and recorded

Measured data from sensors and guards is combined in the data acquisition unit and made available via a standard in-terface. The parameters for the limit values are set in a teach-in phase and then monitored continuously. The current status can be read directly on the transformer or by remote access via the corporate network. All data is archived for subsequent evaluation and for drawing up trend analyses.

Tailored visualization

Determining the best possible data visualization basically depends on the requirements at hand. That’s why we offer different options for presenting the measured data in user-friendly form in any environment, from LCD display to Web-based visualization.
