Scoop from the Counselors

Check your students planner every night. Make sure they have written down all

assignments. If not, check teacher’s website or call

homework hotline. If no homework, have them write down

what they learned in class. This helps them learn/remember what they

have to do and plan ahead. Student can check completed homework

and cross out homework turned in to teacher.

More counseling scoop

Each weekend monitor child organizing binder and backpack.

They need to learn to put all papers in correct place so they can find them.

Take out unneeded papers but keep all assignments for the year!

And more scoop from the Counselors

Encourage kids to be pro-active in communicating with their teachers on their own. Ask questions during class, after class or

through email. Encourage kids to speak up about

harassment. If they don’t feel safe confronting the bully or comforting the victim, report to an adult.

And finally…

Create and clearly communicate about boundaries that are non-negotiable around personal safety, education and respect for self and others.

Give your child several options/choices within each to support their growing need for autonomy.

Need to learn to make good decisions through practice.

Keep your sense of humor!

Anisa Hickey, School Nurse

If a student has asthma and self carries an inhaler the parents need to fill out two forms and have the doc sign and return to me.
