1. Look carefully at the schedule and plan ahead. Events

happen throughout the day. To avoid early morning traffic you

may want to consider alternate routes or carpool with friends.

Be sure to allow travel time between campuses.

2. Choose your starting campus and park there. Parking areas

are indicated with P on each of the campus maps. Once you

arrive, follow the signs to parking and use the campus buses.

Use the “Bus Information” section on the campus map pages to

find out which bus to use.

3. There is no check-in. Proceed directly to your first session.

4. Schedule your day. Download and print the scheduling grid to

help plan your day so you don’t miss out on important events.

5. Attend the Student Services Fair at the Rutgers Athletic

Center (RAC). Join staff and students from more than 35

student services departments on Livingston campus from

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

6. Take a residence hall tour. Residence hall tours will help you

figure out which campus fits your lifestyle.

7. Eat at dining halls or student center food courts. There are no

better spots to get a true feel for what the pulse of the campus

is like. Busch Dining Hall, Livingston Dining Commons, Brower

Dining Hall, and Neilsen Dining Hall will offer an all-you-can-eat

special for $10 per person.

8. Attend a Campus Life session. How will you build your

community at Rutgers? Campus Life sessions will give you a

glimpse of the opportunities for getting involved on campus and

developing lifelong skills.

9. Pick up your free Rutgers t-shirt! Admitted students can get their

hand stamped at any information tent, then stop by the Scarlet/

White football game for a free t-shirt! Available while supplies last.

10. Be sure to:

n Allow travel time between campuses

n Attend an academic session

n Learn about New Student Orientation

n Check out the Student Services Fair

Parent and Family Programs

New Student Orientation (NSO)

FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

Students will attend a two-day program with one overnight stay

in a university residence hall. Session dates run from mid-June

through mid-August with some priority session dates for Honors

College, School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, School

of Engineering, School of Nursing, and Ernest Mario School of

Pharmacy students. Students enrolled at the Rutgers Business

School, Mason Gross School of the Arts, and School of Arts and

Sciences may attend any session date.

TRANSFER AND NONTRADITIONAL STUDENTS

Students will attend a one-day program. Since some transfer or

nontraditional students may be looking for additional information

about campus involvement opportunities, select program dates will

include options for an extended evening or an overnight orientation

experience. There will be several sessions offered during the

summer which will feature a consolidated evening program

specifically designed for nontraditional or working students with

significant daytime commitments.

» Receive information about parent and family programs by entering your contact information in the Enrollment Pathway.

» Sign up for the bimonthly family newsletter at go.rutgers.edu/pfnewsletter.

» Like the RU Parent Facebook Page at facebook.com/ruparents.

» Get involved with the Parent and Family Association, an organization that hosts monthly informational meetings by university

departments as well as events on campus for students.

» For additional information about parent and family programs visit parents.rutgers.edu or email [email protected].

New Student Orientation is a dynamic on-campus experience designed to welcome, prepare, and engage all new students and their

families in their transition to Rutgers.

» All new students are expected to attend an orientation program.

» Students should make sure that they activate their NetID through the Enrollment Pathway and regularly monitor their Rutgers email account.

» Students are encouraged to select an orientation program date on the Enrollment Pathway by June 1. Space is limited and sessions

are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

» There will be a priority program date for out-of-state students who are enrolling in a school that holds an in-person academic

planning and advising day in the spring.

» Separate orientation programs will be offered for parents and family members that require separate registration and a nominal fee for

attendance. These sessions coincide with student orientations, including two evening sessions in July. Parents and family members may

purchase tickets for a Parent and Family Orientation program at getinvolved.tix.com beginning in April.

For additional information about New Student Orientation, visit nso.rutgers.edu or email [email protected].
