2018 Workshops
Cost: $125.00 Class Description (6 Hours)
Chloramination Disinfection
Disinfection is a common process to drinking water and wastewater treatment. This seminar details the basics of chlorination and monochloramination process steps and optimization utilized in DW and WW treatment facilities. Special focus will be on the importance and measurement of pH, alkalinity, nitrite, free ammonia, chlorine and monochloramine to water disinfection.
Distribution System Field Monitoring
Monitoring distribution systems has become highly important and regulated. This workshop will present challenges facing distribution systems such as corrosion and disinfection monitoring and provide the latest analytical techniques and methodology. Topics include pH, conductivity, alkalinity, hardness and colorimetric parameters.
Laboratory Skills for Water and Wastewater Operators
Operators are challenged to perform critical water quality testing accurately and timely. In this workshop, operators will gain skills in the proper techniques for sampling and measurement, instrument calibration and maintenance, troubleshooting, verifying and determining measurement accuracy using methods common for drinking water and wastewater treatment. Topics include colorimetry, pH, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity.
Nitrification in the Distribution
System
One of the primary concerns to operators of chloraminated systems is nitrification in the distribution network. There are many parameters that can be monitored to anticipate the onset of nitrification. This class is designed to increase the awareness and understanding of this issue. Participants will run methods for the measurement of free ammonia and monochloramine, pH, nitrite and alkalinity.
Nutrients and Nutrient Analysis
Nutrients are one of the top environmental concerns today. This seminar examines common Biological Nutrient Removal systems and process strategies. Topics include pH, alkalinity and dissolved oxygen, and the importance of nutrients monitoring in the process and laboratory.
Process Instrument Verification
for Water and Wastewater
This workshop will focus on water quality measurements in water and wastewater plants. Topics include turbidity, pH, and dissolved oxygen in water and wastewater. Participants will verify the performance of an online turbidimeter and calibrate and verify process pH and dissolved oxygen probes.
Wastewater Analysis Essentials
Wastewater treatment can vary in complexity but understanding each treatment step ensures process control and compliance. Topics include pH, dissolved oxygen, biosolids, and oxygen demand methods BOD versus COD. Participants will acquire practical experience in sample preparation, instrument calibration, verifying and determining accuracy, interpreting and correlating results.
Water Quality Fundamentals
To determine the quality of water it takes knowledge, skills and sound technique. This class focuses on the cornerstones of water quality measurements. Topics include colorimetry, pH, conductivity, and turbidity. Participants will learn proper measurement technique, performing instrument calibrations, verifying and determining accuracy, troubleshooting using samples and standard solutions.
Cost: $400.00SPECIAL OFFER! A Pocket Colorimeter II for chlorine,
PLUS reagents and accessories, is included in the class materials. (4 Hours)
Chlorine Analysis for Water and Wastewater
Chlorine is the most popular disinfectant but its measurement is not without its challenges. This workshop will demonstrate best practices for sampling, proper technique for measuring various chlorine species, troubleshooting common errors, and determining measurement accuracy using standards. At the conclusion of the class participants will demonstrate proficiency at measuring realistic water samples for chlorine accurately.
Nothing compares to hands-on learning.
