BRIAN WOOTTON (England)

Brian began handling the GSD in the Breed Ring as a boy in 1956, breeding his first litter in 1957. He has been actively involved, as breeder, judge and competitor in breed trials since then. He joined the SV in 1968 and was the first person later to be accepted as an Apprentice judge from the UK by the SV. He achieved fully accredited SV status in 1979 and held office until the official retirement age. Brian began his KC championship judging career in 1974, and has judged regularly since then at all the major shows, including at the British Sieger. A school teacher by profession, he has occupied positions on the Breed Council Education Working Party as a lecturer and examiner in judges training courses. He has been a breed surveyor since the inception. He has officiated as official translator to visiting SV judges for many years, has translated for the well known Urban Petterson Sieger books since the English version appeared until he retired. His books on the GSD were well received, and he often contributes articles to breed magazines. His greatest pleasure lies in promoting the GSD as a working dog that can also be shown. This will be his second visit to Hawkes Bay and he is looking forward to it very much.

Will take this opportunity to thank the Hawkes Bay GSD Club Committee & Members for the privilege to judge your 2017 Specialty.

Early 80’s I acquired my first GSD & my journey began with some amazing passions & results. I have since

been breeding under the prefix FREESTIEN, a combination of my family’s birth place in Holland &

something a little bit German. My location here in Queensland has over the years prevented my ability to

support all the nation specialty shows so I have campaigned the GSD extensively in the all breeds circuit as

well as specialty shows where I have had achievements in both arenas. I had a break for several years from

the GSD specialty, mainly through location & personal issues. On my return in 2008 I once again followed

my passion with the GSD as I had relocated to Brisbane & was instantly welcomed back by members as

though I had never been away. At this stage I had my first taste of owning a GSD Imp. CH. Otana Von

Badboll, what an amazing girl. I showed her progeny successfully in the specialty circuit, having the

pleasure with her daughter on the pegs at our National. I was invited to join the judges training scheme by

Barry & Carol O’Rourke & the rest is history.

Having judged my first specialty for the Otago GSD specialty (a few teething issues with the recorder) &

several specialties in Australia & also judged the GSD in India. . I have been lucky to have judged several

times in China but sadly they do not bring their GSDs out for the smaller shows.

Once again thank you for the invitation & the opportunity to Co- judge with Brian Wootton a judge I have

respected for many years.

14 June 1937 – 31 December 2015

It was with great sadness we lost Marg in December 2015. Marg was not

only the Patron for our club but also a dear friend to many in the German

Shepherd world. We were very proud to be able to send Marg off with a

German Shepherd guard of honour with Marg’s beloved Asha escorting her

from the chapel. A very moving moment. Marg is sorely missed by us all.

A few words from Graham and Jan

We have known Maggie Mac (as we all affectionately called her) for many many years. Sort

of one of the originals.

Back then we would have so much fun....in the ring and socially. And Margaret was not

backward in coming forward when it came to entertainment. She would have us in fits of

laughter time and again,

She was sincere in her love for the GSD and bred and imported to the best of her ability and

did well in the ring, but more importantly she gave her dogs love and made sure she sold to

the right people.

All us gang miss you Maggie.
