And that is not all; the GCC cross-border excursions go both ways. In addition to regular trips from Hong Kong to other GBA cities, members of GCC Hong Kong and South China are also periodically invited to visit selected industrial sites in Hong Kong. For instance, GCC members were taken to the state-of-the-art Waste Electrical and Electronics Equipment Treatment and Recycling Facility (WEEE-PARK) in Tuen Mun, operated by the German-HK joint venture and GCC member company ALBA IWS. The group received a VIP tour and insightful briefing on the process of recovering and re-distributing valuable components in disused electrical equipment.

SOURCING COMMITTEEFormed in 2017, the GCC Sourcing Committee serves as a forum for our numerous member companies in the sourcing, procurement and merchandising business – from SMEs to global retailers – to exchange views on current trends and challenges with their industry peers. The committee is co-chaired by Mr. Michael Ciesielski (Managing Director, METRO Sourcing International Ltd.) and Mr. Andreas Kulenkampff (Managing Director, Tchibo Merchandising Hong Kong LP), and has continuously been gaining momentum over the past year; as of June 2019, more than 25 member companies have actively gotten involved in the Sourcing Committee. Regular committee meetings are held at least once per quarter and feature discussions on a variety of pressing topics such as the Sino-US trade war, the global shift towards e-commerce, as well as corporate social responsibility, quality assurance and compliance.

CFO COMMITTEEOne and a half years after its formation, the Chief Financial Officers’ committee has developed into a significant platform for members who are involved in the financial roles in their respective organisations, and who desire to exchange perspectives on finance related issues and services. Co-chaired by Dr. Ulrich Boettger (Director of BASF Hong Kong and Senior Vice President, Finance & Controlling of BASF Asia Pacific) and Mr. Patrick Feth (Managing Director of Siemens AG Hong Kong Branch), the CFO Committee has several meetings throughout the last year to discuss topics such as base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS), cost allocation for central and regional services, internal control systems, and inter-company transfer pricings. With the meetings being held at the individual committee members’ offices, members not only have lively exchanges on the above-mentioned topics, but also gain first-hand insights into the operational structure of other participating companies.

SME COMMITTEEAs the most recent addition to the GCC portfolio, the SME Committee is an offer to all SME members of GCC, serving as a platform to exchange and discuss views, experiences and advice on best practices, as well as opportunities and challenges in daily business. Chaired by Mr. Stefan Kracht (Managing Director of Fiducia Management Consultants), the committee will cover a range of relevant topics, such as compliance, human resources, IT and cybersecurity, sales and supply chain management, and many others.

GBA TASK FORCEWith our GBA Task Force we address significant topics and development trends in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Bay Area, better known as the Greater Bay Area. Delegation trips to the cities in the region are regularly organised and co-ordinated by both GCC Hong Kong and GCC South & Southwest China in order to familiarise members with the industrial landscape in this highly dynamic region, map out potential growth opportunities and promote cross-border business engagement. During the past year, delegates were brought on excursions to Shenzhen, Foshan and Zhongshan, including visits to leading Chinese high-tech developers, as well as German manufacturing facilities in the region. The informative trips not only allow for a fresh GBA perspective, but also provide prime networking opportunities.
