Public Speaking

Congratulations to the following students who represented Glendale East Public School at the Zone Public Speak-

ing Finals at Booragul Public School.

A special congratulations goes to Alex Holliday who received a Highly Commended Award for her speech on the

day. Well done Alex!

Leadership Speeches Congratulations to all students who nominated for leadership positions for 2019. It’s a very daunting to task to put yourself forward as a candidate and it’s wonderful to see the high quality applicants which we have in our current group of Year 5 students. All the students delivered clear, well prepared speeches and did themselves, the school and their families proud. Well done! Year 6 Farwell Our Year 6 Farewell was held on Wednesday and it was a fantastic, positive way to mark the important milestone of finishing Primary school. All our students looked very mature as they danced, laughed and ate their way through the event. I would like to congratulate the students on their excellent behaviour and attitude towards the event, especially the partner dances. I would also like to thank the Stage 3 staff for their efforts in organising the Farewell and a special thanks to the lovely, dedicated ladies of St Thomas Church Cardiff for their wonderful hospitality and their amazing cooking (I’m still full). Presentation Day Just a reminder that the Annual Presentation Day will be held on Friday 14th December starting at 9:15am. It would be wonderful to see our families coming along to celebrate the fantastic achievements of our students this year. Carols This Wednesday, 12th December, the school in conjunction with our scripture groups will be holding a combined carols in the hall. Starting at 5:30pm, the carols will feature performances from the schools choir, scripture groups and the local church. Santa Claus will also make an appearance. It would be lovely to see all there. Christmas holidays and next year As this is the final newsletter of 2018, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our families for their support during the year. I wish you all a very merry Christmas and safe and happy holiday. School will resume for all students on Wednesday 30th January 2019. Best wishes, Mr Forbes Principal

5/6B

On Tuesday, 27th November the six student leaders visited Glendale Technology High School and participated in the ILLA Leadership Day. We were involved in a number of activities, one of which involved green screens. We created a short clip about our sustainability project which promotes The Return and Earn scheme. This initiative will be implemented by the 2019 school leaders and will help us to raise mon-ey for the school. The 2019 school leaders will lead discussions with the class reps at the SRC meetings about spending the money on children’s play equipment. To get this project started, the leaders will be collecting all the cans, poppers, cartons and plastic bottles each Wednesday. In the future we are hoping to raise enough money to purchase a new recycling cage for our school.

5/6 Q

My name is Curtis and I am in 5/6Q. I have had several highlights this year but my favourite experience has been doing the nutbush during dance practise for the Year 6 Farewell. I also enjoyed creating our tree frog art in class and attending the Active Outdoor Education Centre for the Year 6 camp. This year has been so much fun and I have created many memories.

My name is Tyler and I am also in 5/6Q. This year I have thoroughly enjoyed the many experiences that have been offered to us. My favourites have been attending the Active Outdoor Education Centre and the Year 6 Fun Day. I have also enjoyed the opportunities to attend the high school during transition days and getting the chance to meet new people and try new activities.
