Borders Railway - Design

− URS design

− 1.75m perimeter hole spacing

− 3.75 or 1.75m infill hole spacing

− Rock Cover to the seams

Depth of treatment uses 10:1 cover ratio principle

Beneath structures 10:1 applies but with min 30m

cover

The way we worked…..

•50Nr weeks on-site

• 1125Nr rig shifts (10 Nr rigs)

• 250,000 linear metres drilled

• 5000te of grout injected

• 11Nr mine shafts consolidated

• 2.5km of consolidated railway

New Plant

• State of the art Bulk Mixing Unit utilised within

Cementation Skanska for the first time. Materials

loaded by a fully automated conveyor belt system

• Remote control drilling rigs championed, which

allowed the Operator to work remotely from the rig

• Infra red camera system trialled with a potential to

replace the safety gate system
