Develop and implement short- and long-term strategies for clients to improve operations,

reduce inefficiencies, increase revenue, diversify collaborations and strengthen partnerships.

Clients include the Piedmont Park Conservancy, South Fork Conservancy, Memphis

Department of Parks and Recreation and Journey Men’s Shelter.

CITY OF ATLANTA, Atlanta, GA – Commissioner, Parks & Recreation Dept., June 2010-May 2014

Led a nationally-accredited department of 300+ full-time and 200+ seasonal employees, more

than 100 parks and 50 facilities, and an annual budget of $30+ million.

Developed and implemented an integrated program plan to open 16 closed recreation

centers, enhance youth development programming and update IT & security infrastructure.

Increased annual after-school enrollment from 400 to more than 1000.

Increased percent of residents living within ½-mile of a park from 50% to 65% through

key acquisitions and creative partnerships with businesses, nonprofits and govt. agencies.

Reduced department electricity consumption by 20% and water use by more than 50%,

resulting in annual savings of more than $2.5 million.

Implemented a unified asset management and work order system that shortened the routine

maintenance schedule, improved maintenance performance against goals and strengthened

justifications for annual budget requests;

Increased operating budget from $200,000 to more than $500,000 in 3 years; oversaw creation of

$200,000 + reserve fund. Launched capital improvement program. Expanded staff from 2 full-

time and 2 part-time positions to 7 full-time and 1 part-time positions.

Performed situational assessment focused on program delivery, staff alignment and

allocation of financial and volunteer resources.

Developed and implemented strategic plan to restructure all programs to align behind a

strategic vision of engaging geographically and ethnically diverse clientele focused on

small to mid-size capital improvements and advocacy.

Created a network of more than 60 “friends-of-the-park” groups to foster community

engagement, facilitate improvements in individual parks and advocate for parks citywide.
