Geology of Outcrop Area

Lot 8, Concession IV

Mountjoy Township

Introduction

The property is located 6 km NW of Timmins City Centre

in Lot 8, Concession IV, Mountjoy Township, Porcupine Mining

Division (Figure 1). An area of outcrop near the central

portion of the concession is the focus of this report. Most

of the outcrop is located near the south boundary of the

patented half lot forming the north half of Lot 8,

Concession IV. Outcrop also extends immediately south of

the patented ground into claim P568931. (NE^, S^, Lot 8,

Concession IV).

The mining rights for the above patented and unpatented

ground is held by Comstate Resources Ltd.

The property is accessed via the Sandy Falls road.

Previous Work

Recorded work on the property dates back to that of

Mineral Estates (Central Mountjoy Options) in 1940, when

four diamond drill holes were sunk in the south part of the

current property. One hole (#1) intersected anomalous gold

Page 5: GEOLOGY OF O/C AREA€¦ · on claim P568931 and are the only field work days applied to field credits. Geology The outcrop consists almost wholly of komatiitic volcanics, with basaltic

(0.03 oz/ton) over 30 feet which included a 2 foot

intersection in massive pyrite assaying 0.08 oz/ton. The

anomalous zone was within carbonatized komatiite within 50

feet of a contact with sediments (wacke and slate).

In 1964, Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines Ltd. drilled

two diamond drill holes in the same vicinity with negligible

results.

In the early 1980"s, Comstate Resources Ltd. acquired

the property and subsequently optioned it to Grand Saquenay

Mines and Minerals Ltd. who drilled one diamond drill hole

to test an IP anomaly approximately 800 feet SE of the

present outcrop area.

In 1986, ZoJiaffy Mines Limited under option from

Comstate Resources Ltd., drilled two diamond drill holes

{MJ-86-03, MJ-86-06), in part to test the anomalous values

intersected by Mineral Estates. Assaying of the core not

only revealed no significant values, but hole MJ-86-03

failed to intersect any komatiites, being entirely within

porphyry and sediments. In the fall of 1987, Zahaffy power

stripped the outcrop area near the south boundary of the

patented half lot. The onset of snow and freezing weather

prevented mapping of the outcrops at that time. Zahaffy

terminated the option shortly thereafter.

Present Survey

The present survey/ consisting of mapping of the power stripped

outcrop area and the adjoining outcrop to the south was undertaken

in August of 1991 and May of 1992 and 1993 by D. R. Pyke and K. M.

Gunnison. A total of 8 person days were spent in mapping; 2*s of

these days were spent mapping and sampling the outcrop and drill core

on claim P568931 and are the only field work days applied to field

credits.

Geology

The outcrop consists almost wholly of komatiitic volcanics,

with basaltic komatiites dominating the two large outcrop areas

in the southern part of the mapped area, and peridotitic komatiites

largely being confined to the three most northerly outcrop areas.

A small area of quartz-feldspar porphyry outcrops on claim P568931.

The komatiites are in a large part carbonatized and weather

medium dull grey-green or orange brown with more pervasive

ankeritization. Typical polysutured structure, characteristic of

komatiitic volcanics, is prominent. Pillowed basaltic komatiites

near the south part of the mapped area indicates that tops are south.

Trace to one percent pyrite is common and local narrow discontinous

patches contain four to five percent pyrite. Quartz veins, seams

and veinlets are particularly evident in the large ourcrop area

immediately north of claim P568931 where they constitute upwards to

ten percent of the outcrop area. Only those veins greater than

0.5-1.0 cm in width are shown on the accompanying map. Fine

spinifex texture is prevalent in the north central outcrop area.

Page 7: GEOLOGY OF O/C AREA€¦ · on claim P568931 and are the only field work days applied to field credits. Geology The outcrop consists almost wholly of komatiitic volcanics, with basaltic

4

The quartz-feldspar porphyry is white weathering, medium

grained, well foliated, moderately sericitized and contains trace

to one percent pyrite. Quartz forms twenty to thirty percent by

volume and occurs as phenocrysts up to 5 mm in diameter.

Analyses

A total of twenty samples, taken both from drill core and

outcrop were geochemically analysed for gold (ppb). No significant

values were obtained (Table 1).

Conclusions

The presence of quartz-veined highly carbonatized komatiites,

in conjunction with quartz-feldspar porphyry suggests a favourable

environment for gold deposition.

The lack of continuity at depth of the geology encountered

in the drill holes as would be predicted from the outcrop areas

cannot currently be readily explained. For example, hole

MJ-86-03 did not intersect any komatiitic volcanics, but was

entirely within porphy and sediments. This suggests either an

unconformity or fault contact; further drilling would be required

to substantiate either.
