Toxfree also took the option of fitting the Volvo FE with an I-Shift automated manual transmission, which has become available with the launch of the new FE. All new Volvo FE’s are equipped as standard with an Electronic Stability Program to improve safety.

Toxfree’s FE has been fitted with a vacuum body and equipment by Vacuum Truck Supplies located in Mansfield, Victoria and will operate from one of Toxfree’s east coast operations.

“We started the standardisation of our fleet about three years ago and recently purchased our 100th Volvo,” said Tony Burrowes who is Toxfree’s Group Procurement and Asset Manager.

Burrowes said he was pleased with the way the relationship with Volvo Trucks Australia had developed. “In no particular order, there are the safety features of the trucks, the technology, the servicing, and the environmental considerations,” he said.

“It’s the whole package provided to us by Volvo. We have lots of weird and wonderful bodies fitted to our trucks and we need good engineering backup which we get from Volvo in Brisbane.”

Toxfree recently was awarded the total waste management contract with Chevron Australia for five years with a five year extension option. The estimated value of that contract was $170 million over the initial five year term.

Australia’s first Volvo Euro 6 truck was handed over to waste specialist Toxfree at the 2014 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show (ITTES) in Melbourne

The Volvo FE Euro 6 is powered by the Volvo D8K engine, which develops 320 horsepower and uses a combination of technologies to meet the stringent Euro 6 emission standards, including selective catalytic reduction (SCR), a variable geometry turbo, a cooled EGR (exhaust gas circulation) system and an exhaust particulate filter.
