Impacts on society 1. Christopher Columbus first stop was at Canary Islands to collect supplies and get

repairs. The calm winds delayed the voyage for four weeks making less time to find land. He needed to get out of the calm winds so he could not waste time and find some land before he goes back to Palos of Spain.
